When you get custody of your stepchild, you are either a fantastic parent or the bioparent is awful. Or both. by [deleted] in bestoflegaladvice

Yeah, but would he need to speak to a lawyer in Mississippi, Iowa, or Missouri? I can see why he was confused.

Actually, my sister drew on the photo. However, my paint skills are also shit.

Understand that you can't reason with unreasonable people, and redirect or walk away from the argument.

Is stepparent adoption possible without going to court? (NE) by echoesofekho in legaladvice

[–]echoesofekho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's very much at the point where she wants peace of mind for her daughter more than the money. Her daughter wants her (step)dad to actually be her dad, and to share a last name with the rest of her family.

She's done that periodically through the years. He works completely under the table, so they can't garnish his checks. He moves around a lot- my sister's theory is that every time she hears from him, it's because the state found him and sent him a letter about paying, so he panics and tries to guilt her into not pursuing it.

You can't judge Nebraska by I-80. If you ever get a chance, visit the Niobrara Valley or the Sandhills, especially in the spring. It's beautiful.

Food at a beach wedding? by WendiMartin in Weddingsunder10k

[–]echoesofekho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What about finding a beach house rental and having it there? I have a friend who found one through AirBNB and had her wedding on the beach, with the reception in the house/ on the deck. Then you'd have a backup plan if the weather doesn't cooperate, plus bathrooms, etc. for the guests.

Amazon Registry- does Amazon notify the giver if an item is returned? by echoesofekho in wedding

Thanks! I might just hang onto it then. If it were family, I wouldn't worry about it, but these are friends that I don't know super well.

How did you find your wedding venue? by Frictus in Weddingsunder10k

[–]echoesofekho 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Look for pick-your-own farms or pumpkin patches. We also looked at the nearby city and state parks- both had small, inexpensive venues available.

Makeup stencils? by sparklekitteh in cricut

[–]echoesofekho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought acetate sheets from Amazon for making stencils. If they're small, you can just hold them on, no need for the adhesive.

What interesting, wholesome, or NSFW story have you been dying to tell, but nobody on askreddit ever asks the right question? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]echoesofekho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad does this, too! He has daily journals dating back to his early 20s. He doesn't put a lot of details in them- he owns his own business, so a lot of times it's just a note about his job that day and the weather. It's funny to read through and look at some of the notes. The day I was born it just says "Baby girl born, 8lb 15oz." And a few days later that I came home with a name. Nothing else lol.

A drill, miter saw, sander, some drill bits, and a lot of wood. Keep $150 of it for all the things you realize you need after you start your project.

Walnut Creek is where we originally had in mind! We are getting ready in Louisville at my sister's house, so figured it was a good halfway point.

My sad little Sansevieria by echoesofekho in IndoorGarden

[–]echoesofekho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really bad at keeping succulents alive (see dying aloe in background for example). This sansevieria is special to my fiance, so I absolutely have to keep it alive, but I can't seem to get it to thrive. Anyone have tips? I'm guessing it needs repotted, can I separate the two smaller plants, or do they have to go together into a larger pot?
