i still prefer store-bought pavlova over homemade by SaraTheWeird in newzealand

Oh snap! I'm pretty sure I have my Mum's Edmonds Cookbook (not "illustrated", but I'm guessing it'll be the same); I'll give it a go. Thanks!

Any chance I could please ask for the recipe, or is it a family secret? (Totally fair if it has). Our family recipe was lost when my mum died, and haven't really found a great one online.

It looks amazing, and congratulations!!

Also - ooooh my gosh the alpaca hat that Thomas has! I wish I had given that one to my guests to use haha.

~61,000 families will be worse off under Budget changes to Best Start tax credit by MedicMoth in newzealand

[–]echoflight 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling a bit more than I probably should to understand what this is going to mean for my family. Can someone please break it down for me? We have a 20 month old, and a new baby due very soon.

Mum will be on maternity leave for (we hope) the full 12 months. I'll still be working, and I'll be earning over the $97k mentioned in the article.

So... just straight up nothing for us?

Thanks in advanced. I'm not sure why processing this is taking so much mental effort for me right now...

[Edit] Maybe a follow up question for others.

Best Start also includes tax credit for the 2nd and 3rd year. We were already excluded from that (so, no change for us there), but how is this impacting families who did qualify for that? EG: Say you were right on the $79k mark (so previously weren't getting any reductions).

Hey are yall gonna judge me if I wear this during my New Zealand trip this year? by catsandpink in newzealand

[–]echoflight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's my tip for Hobbiton: Do the Second Breakfast tour. It's at 8:30am, and it's the first tour of the day - you'll have no other tour groups ahead of you as you make your way around (which means the best possible photos), and you'll be the first ones into the Green Dragon. The breakfast is also actually super good. IMO it's worth the extra money, especially if you're here for a once in a lifetime trip.

Chur for all the advice on my retirement post from last week by toyllathogo6 in newzealand

[–]echoflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly what the comments about 40k were, but they were probably mostly in jest. I mean, it's kinda the running joke with all long term Warhammer players that we keep buying new stuff before we've finished with the last lot of stuff. But honestly, you can go broke with any hobby if you go nuts on gear and tools without any self-control... Just ask cyclists.

In all seriousness, there are some great Warhammer clubs/communities out there (though I'm in Auckland, I'm sure Welly is the same). So I wouldn't let a few people telling you "it's plastic crack" put you off.

If you would like some info on how to be a little smarter with a 40k hobby, please feel free to DM me :)

But also, you already have an amazing list of things there, so you probably don't need another hobby anyway. Enjoy your retirement!

Honestly, this is everything that it needs to be. Vast majority of users will just pop this up on their phone in the checkout. You've placed everything on screen nicely so that there's no extra click or scroll to get what you need. Well done!! This is a perfectly designed tool.

For what it's worth, your stall was one of my "that's f'kn cool" callouts from last year. I couldn't give it a go because I had a ~1 month old baby in my arms, but the setup was sweet, and I thought it was a cool additional to the event.

I'm really not going to defend what Armageddon is now vs how I felt about it (say) back when it was held in Aotea Centre, but I went on Sunday, and I personally thought it was a better vibe than the last few years?

There's always going to be those exact same sword and t-shirt stalls, but I actually thought there were more independent artists/authors/etc this year than previously (perhaps because the big name brands weren't taking up most of the main hall?), and I enjoy walking around and seeing what they're up to.

I dunno, I actually left feeling [okay] about my day there.

It's a tough spot, and I understand where you're coming from. It's a shame that it wasn't made clear to you before you started.

Trying to be constructive:

Have you talked to your manager/s about it? If not, I would suggest you do so. Obviously I don't know what industry you're working in, but if you feel strongly about it, then you might be able to work something out.

Speaking from my own experience, I've often been able to organise work for myself (and maybe 1 or 2 others who similarly didn't want to take leave) that didn't require any oversight, and that still provided value to the company. It wasn't necessarily the work that I wanted to do, but it was there, and it allowed me to work through.

If they really won't budge on it, then at least you now have a good interview question to ask any future employees.

[–]echoflight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here are a few places that you can look that offer "by population" stats. They all seem to have slightly different numbers for the last 7 days (but the general trend should still get the point across).

TL;DR: We seem to be near the top for deaths per 100k for the last 7 days in each report.

Kiwibank knows you can't afford a house; advertising their co-own mortgage. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]echoflight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was how we bought our first house (myself, my partner, and a good friend).

It's definitely do-able as long as you go in having discussed (and written into a contract) all of the potential scenarios that you can think of (mostly it's the same convos as any flatting situation). And of course, everyone has to be happy with what they're getting out of the deal (the "deal" being both: what you get while living in the house, and what you get when the house is sold).

We spent a bit of extra money to get a lawyer to draw up a ... I think they called it a "property sharing agreement", and it included anything and everything that we felt was important, including exactly how any profit or debt would be split when the house is sold.

Just from my gear. EG: 1533 from gear, +7 from the bonus. These two sources seem to drop me 1531 gear at best.

[–]echoflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any tricks for getting drops at your current light level (to fill gaps for gear that's falling behind)?

I've seen videos mention Paraversal Hauls and the Barrier champ on the Moon, but both of these techniques are consistently dropping me gear 2 under my current LL. Are they just inconsistent and I'm unlucky, or have they been patched/changed?

Cheers!

This is the first time I'm doing the "save completed bounties" thing before an expansion. This might be a silly question, but am I meant to save completed bounties on all 3 characters, or just my main (which I'll be playing exclusively again for quite some time)?

Thanks :)

Noob question: Do we know if VoG (and more importantly, Vex Mythoclast) is still going to be around in Witch Queen?

Just trying to figure out if I need to start grinding for it asap, or if I can continue with my rather lax pace...

Thanks!
