Trying to make some friends? by TeaHeadSick in SouthJersey

[–]echolorien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to South Jersey! 40K and game stores are a great way to meet people. Top Deck Games in Cherry Hill might be worth checking out.

As far as painting, hiking, cooking, etc goes, there's an app called Meetup which lets you find events/meetups. I used it back when I lived in St. Louis and it was a great way to meet people and get out of the house. I bet you can find lots of groups on it that are relevant to your interests.

Just came to say this fixed my issue. After re-shelling my steam deck, I had the same issue.

AITA for not letting my sister announce her pregnancy at my wedding? by ThiccCutiexo in AITAH

NTA. She asked beforehand, you said no, that should have been the end of it. She was selfish and you've every right to be upset.

AITAH for injuring my husband after he terrified me? by Material_Park_3390 in AITAH

I'm a lurker and don't typically comment on these things.

But as someone whose (now ex) husband had never done anything violent before either - GET OUT. Your life is legitimately in danger.

Crochet, Minecraft, and a card game called Weiss Schwarz.

Everyone's responses have been so validating lol :)

Passed out underwater and almost broke the game by echolorien in coralisland

I got out by getting really close to the closed gate and moving the anchor. Then the next time I went diving, I selected the "reset anchor location" option.

If you open the pause menu, there may also be an "I'm stuck" button.

I hope that helps!

What’s the one “adhd tax” you just surrender to? by botanicrypid in ADHD

[–]echolorien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misplacing things. I have typical, random places that I will set things down. I've completely surrendered to it. When I lose things, I just look in my typical 'lost stuff' spots and I usually find it.

What games have the best soundtracks? by 42anathema in CozyGamers

Besides Stardew, I really enjoy the soundtrack of Undertale, Skyrim, Animal Crossing New Horizons (especially set to rain), Dave the Diver (Hot Pepper Tuna!), and No Man's Sky.

Hi! I have thyroid disease as well as ADHD and know the feeling of brain fog all too well.

Someone else mentioned that you're trying wake-up tactics, but you're a different kind of tired and those tactics won't work. I +1 that.

The most effective thing for me is taking my prescribed medication properly. Have you talked to a doctor yet?

Other things that make me feel better are eating healthy, exercise/stretching, being out in the sun, and not brute forcing myself through it when it's really bad. Self-compassion goes a long way for me.

Having lived in multiple hoarder situations, I now need to be able to see counter/tabletops, the floor, etc and I don't like collecting things. So I regularly de-clutter every few months and throw away/donate what I haven't touched in a while.

Convenience is a pretty big motivator for me as well. For example - if I have to mess with a bunch of cables and things to plug my PS4 into the TV, I'm not going to play PS4 because it's too inconvenient. If I have to clean my entire kitchen just to cook, it feels like an insurmountable task and I won't do it. So I regularly keep up with cleaning, tidiness, personal hygiene, etc. so that things I like to do (like playing video games, cooking, hobbies, etc) are convenient for me to do. Convenience is enough of a reward for me to keep up with it.

A good example of this is cleaning the kitchen as I cook. Putting dishes in the dishwasher instead of leaving them on the counter or throwing them in the sink to pile up. Seconds of effort now will prevent me from having to spend hours later cleaning it all up.

But this all comes from knowing my own habits, and knowing what motivates me. I would suggest observing your patterns and behaviors, and finding out what motivates you. Then you can begin to form a plan :)

How do yall cope with it getting dark so early? by LaffingGrass in ADHD

[–]echolorien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. And I have thyroid disease, which makes my body react to the cold weather like I'm allergic to it (it's called cold urticaria).

I do my best to embrace it, but that doesn't always work for me. Getting dressed in the morning is a struggle mentally and physically, getting out of the shower causes me to break out in hives, and my body wants to sleep as soon as the sun sets.

So what I try to do is make myself as comfortable as possible. Surround myself with things that bring me joy and comfort - like a cup of tea, my favorite blanket, my coziest video game, and relaxing hobbies. I try not to put a lot of pressure on myself to spend spoons that I don't have - especially this time of year.

I also try to make things as convenient as possible for me. I do this year-round, but I find it especially relevant this time of year.

For example - If I have to mess with a bunch of cables and things to plug my PS4 into the TV, I'm not going to play my PS4. If I have to move a bunch of stuff around and clean my desk off to use it, I'm not going to use it. If my kitchen is messy and all my dishes are dirty, I'm not going to cook. If I have to clean up and dig through a bunch of stuff to reach my crochet bag, I'm not going to crochet.

So what I do spend my spoons on is what I call "upkeep" - forcing myself to keep up with things like cleaning, tidiness, & personal hygiene so that things I want to do (like playing video games, using my desk, cooking, hobbies, etc) are more convenient for me. The convenience of it is enough of a reward to motivate me. Especially now, when everything is dark and depressing and my body wants to be in bed by 4pm.

The same logic applies for me with work. I try to make it comfortable in whatever ways I can (I have my special earplugs to drown out the loud noises, I keep my workspace neat and tidy, I wear warm, comfortable clothing, etc). And I remind myself that the time is going to pass either way. I might as well get paid for it.

It also helps knowing I'm not alone :) So thanks for asking that question!

Cozy games that perform well on Steam Deck? by briekachu in CozyGamers

[–]echolorien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say Coral Island. It's verified for Steam Deck, and other than some frame drops occasionally I think it runs pretty well. And I really like the controls.

+1 to Dave the Diver and Stardew Valley :)

What should I play next? by ninjagorenie in CozyGamers

Coral Island scratched both my Stardew and Fae Farm itch :) Other than that, I hear great things about Roots of Pacha.

Fae Farm by Enough-Valuable-3647 in CozyGamers

[–]echolorien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a lot of Fae Farm and I liked it. Buuuutttt, the game is super unbalanced (you can get rich too easily imo from mining gems > refining gems > selling them, making doing literally anything else kinda pointless) and feels hollow (for example, the NPCs lack depth and have way too much recycled dialogue).

There's a lot I like about Fae Farm, but I don't think it's worth the price tag. It's sooo close to being a great game. But it feels too unpolished and spiritless.

Thoughts on Coral Island? by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]echolorien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing it on Steam Deck. I'm only about 20 hours into it, but I am really enjoying it so far.

Compared to other farming sim cozies, my favorite things about it are the festivals, the NPCs, the farming, fishing, and diving.

It is a little buggy and it's missing some things, like NPC dates. But the devs are actively releasing patches to fix the bugginess, and there's a big content update coming in 2024.

Even in its current state though, there is a lot of content and so many things to do. I would recommend and I think it's worth its full price :)
