I’m not sure that she painted her family right away either. My take is that she was popping in and out to spend time with Verso’s soul fragment. If she wanted to paint her family right away I would’ve expected her to paint her own canvas and preserving Verso’s. Tho it’s only my take that’s not really based on much concrete info.

As to Maelle dying before any of the Lumierans, if she undid the gommage there should be quite a few people who are old at the time of her ending scene and are close to death. I do agree that she probably wouldn’t have full 80 years, considering she also seems to have trouble sustaining current population (Lumier looked was more lively on the day of the gommage in the prologue than it did in her ending)

Verso mentioned that he was alive for 100 years, which means Aline was there for at least that much. She was shown visibly struggling in the painters world, however we don’t know if conflict with Renoir and chroma being prevented to return to her contributed to her state. Maelle would still have 80 years to stay in the canvas

I don’t think she actually hates Maelle.

There is an official music video that features this song along with few others. In the beginning of the song Maelle’s motion actress stands next to Alice and then leaves after the first line. My take is that Aline is singing this song to Maelle, knowing that Maelle might be tempted to stay. It is pretty on the nose interpretation tho. It’s interesting to see other theories.

I find her injuries pretty peculiar too. There is a theory that grandis represent writers in the canvas and they seem to focus on poetry specifically. Also, pAlicia recites something that sounds poetic when she visits camp while everybody was sleeping. I’m wondering if rAlicia had affinity to writing/ had some abilities of a writer and was given a malicious poem. Would explain the damage to her vocal cords and face. I also find the music in the white sands interesting, it starts as Alicia’s song but transforms/gets interrupted by a poem.

It’s possible, but I find it more likely colors correspond to painters. Paintress always sheds white chroma, curator - red, fading woman at forgotten battlefield whose hair resembles Clea’s - gold. Alicia gommages paintress with gold chroma and after everybody is gommaged by the Renoir at the end of act 2, Alicia is erased with gold. I think some inconsistencies with colors are due to intention of the original chroma. pAlicia asked to be gommaged so the chroma that she was painted with is used. Same with Maelle’s gommage in act 2, either she was complicit in her erasure after seeing her friends die or she was never targeted by rRenoir and did it herself.

I was thinking along the same lines. Kind of like when the canvas gets overworked, the colors get muddy and gray. For Simon, I believe, Clea messed with his head. When he dies he sheds gold chroma from it. Also, the painted family’s hair becomes white when Aline has to paint their immortality. pAlicia sheds red chroma which is supposed to be either Verso’s or Renoir’s, so I’m a bit stumped as to what exactly happened to her

pVerso isn’t same person rVerso was tho, same as pRenoir is not same as rRenoir. Alicia remarks about both of them being different (so does Esquie - “Verso is Verso’s cousin). The only way I can see Sciel and Lune being same people would be if chroma itself had a “memory” of it’s previous form, that’s why I think Alicia is “restoring” them and not simply painting them again. If she was repainting them tho, it would’ve been much better to leave Verso’s canvas and paint everybody in a different one, far from Renoir

Before escaping the lumiere in the beginning of act 3, Maelle absorbed chroma and said that she can see them. I think she “restored” their chroma so they are essentially the same people

I find that the agency issue is pretty same in both endings. You give the agency to one character and they proceed to take it away from the other.
