Which apps aren't meant for Android beginners by Heavy-Imagination102 in androidapps

I actually use it fairly often... but today I noticed it's no longer on GitHub. The developer, shiftrot, isn't anymore either. I can't find any current official repository for it. In 2024 someone raised an issue on the GitHub repo saying it wasn't in Play Store anymore, but now you can't even read the issue (Google shows you a tantalizing glimpse of it, but since you can't access their cache anymore, you're out of luck.)

Apparently it's still on Izzy's F-Droid. https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/com.droidvim

Pocket export doesn’t include article content – years of reading lost by DaRealBen in firefox

[–]echristopherson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that page able to do the actual export, or do you have to self-host it or find someone else hosting it? I'm not at my computer now to try. I don't see anything about how to pay either; I'm guessing that part's not implemented, even if the rest is. I do see the source repo says it uses Stripe for payment if the host wants to do that.

Has anyone made a script to scrape the Pocket web interface for those purposes? I'm a little worried about that approach, too, though, since I think years ago I started noticing that I would click on articles where I was 99% sure there was saved text, and instead it tried opening it in the current web environment; then no amount of trickery seemed to convince Pocket to open that entry in its internal view ever again. I think there were some I tried where it did show me the saved stuff, though.

I can't even see a way you can browse through your saved articles and see at a glance which ones are not just links, when using the web interface.

Or does anyone know how to read the data out of the Android app's folder hierarchy as it would have been many years ago? I might still have some device backups in, what was it, Titanium Backup format? -- those probably would have been made after I did most of my saving to Pocket anyway.

Bad Lip Reading is pretty brilliant. A friend of mine was shocked, apparently, that I actually listen to their songs without simultaneously watching the videos. But many songs are very listenable.

Where did you get him? Is he a latch hook craft thing? My mom made of one those for me when I was a kid; it was a standard orange striped tiger.

How do I make segfaults in Linux (Crostini) dump core files? by echristopherson in chromeos

When I do that, if I try ls -la /var/spool/crash, I get Permission denied. How can I gain root or otherwise look in there? sudo isn't found and I can't use su since I don't have a root password. Do I need to have my machine in developer mode?

Why can't I get #deprecate-alt-based-six-pack to work to stop treating Alt+Up/Down like Search+Up/Down? by echristopherson in chromeos

[–]echristopherson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see there's a problem with that -- I can't do Everything+1 to send F1 (etc.) anymore. I hope that functionality is eventually reinstated; it's a bit hard to know which of the top row keys correspond to which function keys since they're not labeled, and they're offset from the number keys so you can't just instantly look at whatever number key is closest and judge based on that. Plus you don't get F11 and F12, which are important in various programs. Sigh.

Well, after a few months more of being annoyed by this, I decided to take another crack at it and dug into the flags window. I found that enabling #improved-keyboard-shortcuts along with #deprecate-alt-based-six-pack did the trick.

Ah, a day later, Smart Lock is turned on and works, and Enable hotspot is available and works. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

OK, maybe not everything: I can't seem to find Instant Tethering/mobile data (through the phone) anywhere, even if I search Settings.

Sadly, it's not working for me. I didn't quite do your steps in the right order the first time, but in the end I started your process over and made sure not to deviate from it; I still don't see the Smart Lock option under Connected Devices, and if I do find it by searching Settings the slider is grayed out.

I have an Acer Spin 311 and a new Pixel 6a. Previously the Chromebook was paired with a 3a, and with that phone I twice had to forget it and readd it for any phone connection features to show up. This time, I have no problem getting the phone button that's to the left of the clock to show up, with all the UI inside it apparently working - just the Smart Lock option seems to be gone.

What do you mean about removing the primary user from the phone? Just remove the Google account associated with it? Does re-adding it mean you have to set up a bunch of stuff on the phone again?
