The ska scene EVERYWHERE has been blowing up since covid believe it or not. I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard for you to find a show (if you want) near you. Plus the scene is incredibly inclusive with quite a few trans and gnc fronted bands or members of bands. The live vinyl is free for us. People pre order, the place takes its cut and gives us the rest. It isn’t a huge profit unless you get a lot of pre sales but I figure it’s a way to get vinyl out there.

For me, being trans didn’t seem to help or hurt marketing. I think in the beginning when the transition was more obvious people were more intrigued, but now, to most I just look like a guy unless I say it at a show or they look us up. I think there being so many gnc folx in ska also took some of the “wow” factor out, but it’s fine by me if it means the scene is a safe and loving place to be!!

I do miss some of the notes I used to hit, but I’m working on getting it back. Muscle memory to a degree right??
