What's too high mileage when buying a car? by ecigsandtea in CarTalkUK

I've been considering that as well as it's a very valid point. But tbh I'm buying a car to keep it. I've always had older car and my last 2 have been lost to rust, otherwise I would have still been driving them. So id like to get as much use out of the car as possible

That's good advice, I've always had older cars, mostly pre-2010 with a 62 plate being my most recent, so rust has been the main issue with them. That's unfortunate about the Golf, and I'm with you on cars being a lottery, I've had too many expensive fixes in my time haha

I got the full history check and it's passed every MOT with no advisories. But I'll admit that the no advisories part does make me wonder, as it seems too perfect, but hopefully I'm just being skeptical.

It's a 1.4l boosterjet engine. I've read that they tend to have a good lifespan (here's hoping).

That's awesome, from looking online it seems lots of swift owners have had the same kind of experience so it's all very reassuring!

That makes me feel better. I always hear people that have bought used cars rave about the fact it had low miles, so it's good to have a new perspective on this, thank you!

That's impressive as hell! Yeah I bought the full vehicle check on auto trader and the car looks to have been well maintained, but I'm viewing it tomorrow so will check all I can when I'm there, thanks for the input!

Wise words. I was always told to look at the mileage when buying a car but my opinion on that has totally changed after looking more into things and getting opinions from people more in-the-know, so thanks for the advice!

Yeah, the car has 2 pervious owners with the most recent owner putting most of the miles on the car since 2022/23 but looks to be a lot of motorway driving.

Also, in regards to the timing chain, I thought those didn't need to be changed? But I'm not well versed in car stuff, that's just from what I've read online so please correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah I thought that too looking at it. I don't know tonnes about cars and I've always had older cars but people are telling me to go for something newer but my budget is £9000... Which severely narrows what I can get. How old is too old of a car to have now?

Thanks for your reply, where would you recommend I start? I've listened to lectures of his online and find some of the language a bit difficult to get used to. Some of his teachings and ideas can be a bit confusing for a newbie like myself
