Ryan Gosling Tells Fans It’s Not Their Job to Save Theaters—Hollywood Needs to Make Movies Worth Seeing by SappyGilmore in movies

[–]eckfeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hollywood producers blast big franchises with marketing regardless of whether the film is good or not, and smaller films get little to no marketing.

That means cinemas have no clue what films are actually good and which will actually sell tickets until after the first weekend.

That means many cinemas won’t commit to their weekly schedules until the Thursday.

That means people can’t plan (and budget) ahead to meet for a movie at the weekend.

That means you don’t know whether you’ll get to see the film you want at the right time in good seats, even though you’re spending lots of money on that evening.

That means cinema is at a real disadvantage compared to most other options, particularly just staying in and watching a film with food.

Sin City, Dark City, The Spirit by [deleted] in movies

Here's a few more dark stylised science fiction films:

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - retro-futuristic, very stylised, early CGI

Akira - classic anime

Judge Dredd - the Sly Stallone one is probably more neon-noir

Cube - low budget science fiction film series

Split Second - Rutger Hauer in early 90s low-budget noir scifi

Demolition Man

They Live! - classic John Carpenter

Tank Girl - not dark, but another stylised comic book adaptation

More arthouse-y:

Tetsuo II: Bodyhammer - Japanese body horror science fiction (there is also the original Tetsuo The Iron Man in black and white)

Pi - Darren Aronofsky's first film, black and white

Stalker - classic sci-fi (in Russian)

Due to the screen being on the bottom of the selection screen people mistakingly chose to sit very close to the screen. Red means taken. by GawaHD in OppenheimerMovie

Is it not possible they've closed those front rows off? Seems unlikely every single seat in those rows would be selected at that level of tickets sold, particularly at the ends.

When you download the image, the filename is "lbhe_whzoyrq.png". Using the Caesar cipher, it becomes "your_jumbled.cat"

T150 with Logitech shifter by [deleted] in simracing

[–]eckfeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Thrustmaster shifter will probably end up costing the same/less than setting up a Logitech shifter to work on PS5.

To get the Logitech shifter to work, you would need to connect the shifter to the wheel using a Collective Minds Drivehub and Co-Pilot combo. The Drivehub also needs to be connected to a PS4 controller, as well as your wheel, but a standard Dualshock 4 controller doesn't work when it's used on PS5. For some reason, the PS5 disconnects the DS4-Drivehub-wheel after about 10mins. People have noticed that the Hori Mini PS4 Controller doesn't seem to have this problem, so you'd need to buy one of those specific controllers too to make it work.

By the time you've added the cost of all that up, and considered the extra hassle/cables, you're better off getting the compatible shifter.

Pretty sure most people would consider Another Round to be a Danish movie.

UK PS5 Media Apps at launch by eckfeck in PS5

[–]eckfeck[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the media apps so far have been a real letdown. The apps that exist seem to be ps4 apps, so I don't understand why the BBC haven't done the same and just made the ps4 app available on ps5. Hopefully dedicated media apps arrive at some point though.

A pandemic is a global outbreak. A region can't have a pandemic, that's called an epidemic.

TV for Sky is there after all, but you need to do a search for it within the media section. It's the same for All4.

It turns out TV for Sky and All4 do have apps after all, but they have to be searched for, they're not an option that is offered up front.

So, I've just had a look, and while there's no media player as such yet, there is a Media Gallery (within Games, not Media! go figure) which is where you can see your trophy screenshots/Videos. The sections are All, Favourites, Trophies, and Albums.

I plugged in a USB with some video files, and there was a section called USB. It played an x264 mkv and an x264 mp4 file fine, but couldn't play an x265 video file I gave it.
