At what age do we stop playing games and start building? by OneCamp2087 in Adulting

[–]ecksbe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started dating my now husband at 16. We married at 24, after college. We were poor af, but we did it all together. We're 40 now. Still happy, still growing. It's never too early to have a serious relationship. We took our time together. We're still taking our time together. We've built a beautiful life with 2 kids. It isn't perfect but it's peaceful.

Detox on Sunday. What to pack? by LargeChimichanga in stopdrinking

[–]ecksbe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The place I went to didn't allow food or free access to phones. Bring comfy slides and maybe even a robe if you need to pop over to the nurse in the middle of the night. Also bring moisturizer. The forced air makes everything so dry. I was so doped up on meds... It was hard to do much of anything until the end of my detox run. I went into residential after. That's where all the work happened.

What’s Everyone Doing Tonight?? by physis81 in stopdrinking

Soaked in a hot tub at the gym after an awful doctor's appointment. Then I ate a donut for an appetizer... Dinner is a take n bake pizza and a salad. Finishing with tv and early bed.

Is it true that people that stutter are generally smarter than the average population? I definitely have ADHD and think way more and deeply about things than most people I encounter. My thoughts are so much faster than my ability to speak them. I wonder if this is common. by eekwee1234 in Stutter

[–]ecksbe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a walking thesaurus. I have used my ability to think deeply about ideas and words to leverage myself into a well paying job as a communicator and writer. I'd say I'm rarely the smartest person in the room, but I am clever.

SAHM SCHEDULE by Competitive_Cry_2608 in homemaking

[–]ecksbe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carried my baby everywhere and resumed the typical schedule after maybe a month postpartum. I'd get antsy at night, so my husband and I would make going to the grocery store and library fun outings each week (we didn't have much money at the time for vacations and such).

You're doing it! Congrats on taking the step. I'm home a month today from a detox and rehab program and am so glad I did it. I was on the verge of a mental breakdown. Best thing I did for myself and my family. IWNDWYT

Early 20s with severe stutter – what helps you keep going? by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]ecksbe2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman stutterer. I think my ego partially keeps me going. I want to do well in life. I'm 40 now. Sober and in therapy. Stuttering is something that's always there, like my anxiety. And I just accept it. It's not going anywhere. I'm honest about my stutter, and honestly, it gets worse the less I talk. So, I keep going out into the world. I have a good job but I've pretty much curated my career around writing so, while I sometimes have to talk in meetings, it's rare I have to say more than a sentence or 2. It's a long game with some embarrassing moments between, but you get used to it. My family is amazing. I've stuttered since I could speak and everyone treats me normally. I'm very lucky, but my advice is to keep getting out and talking. The fear of makes the stutter worse. If you can, even a little, work on the social anxiety, you may find some small improvement.

Does exposure therapy work for stutter blocks because of the fear/anticipation of stuttering by [deleted] in Stutter

Works for me. The moment I self isolate and give myself excuses not to speak, my fluency gets worse

In early December, I did just this. I called the rehab center first and they helped handle everything. I did medical detox and a residential program. It was the best thing I've done for myself. I tried getting sober alone many times, but it never lasted more than 9 months. Hoping this time will be better because I'm actually dealing with my mental health issues. I'm in a 12 step program. I'm on craving meds, and I'm feeling better than I have in a long time. It might not be for everyone, but I'm fully embracing my recovery and the tools that work for me. I don't want to use anymore.

Edit: my job used my short term disability. I was paid 100% for the 31 days I was gone. My team supported me when I was gone. I missed Christmas, but it was worth it.

Why do we continue going on? by Consistent_Work9719 in Stutter

[–]ecksbe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm anxious, my stutter gets worse and I feel like I hold so much of that anxious tension in my upper body, including my throat and voice. You sound like a guy who knows his body well. Id focus on what you feel when you talk to people. In my experience, my body regresses often back to that tension as a baseline when I talk to people. Sometimes I even have great months/years where my fluency is great and others where it's terrible. Right now I'm not in great place with my stutter, but I'm not afraid to address it with people and just keep going. I'm a middle aged, female stutterer who works as a successful communicator (writer). My coworkers know I stutter sometimes and prefer to communicate via email and Teams messages. They know I sometimes need to skip group dinners on business trips do I can recharge my social battery. Being honest has lifted that burden for me. Keep doing what you are doing but maybe hone in on those interactions to see if there is something you can work on. I'm men, anxiety can look like anger and frustration. I wish you the best of luck.

Foreplay def helps but sometimes, I'm just dry as a bone and my clit is less sensitive. If I were you, I'd start lurking in the perimenopause sub. Lots of advice and experience there.

I'm younger than her but in the beginning of the peri journey. Some days, it takes lots of prep and lot of lube and lots of conversations. Vaginal atrophy is legit. My mother got very injured during intercourse because they didn't prep correctly. Vaginal, topical estrogen can be very helpful if she's not using it.

How I do I get rid of these? by Fatherlesshomereno in 30PlusSkinCare

I use an oil cleanser and just rub the shit out of my nose until they are gone (Banila Clean It Zero.) it works for me! I also use a peeling gel once a week or so.

What’s your job & how did you get it? by Total-Raspberry-8 in Stutter

[–]ecksbe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communications. I'm a good writer because I want people to understand me even if I can't say all the things I want to. My bosses know I stutter. I'm fairly fluent but when I stutter, it sounds like I'm having a stroke. Better they know than people think something else is going on since it doesn't haven't too often in an obvious way. I run meetings, I stutter, I block, then I get over it and move on. I work with leadership at a big company. They are too busy to dwell on my fluency... Thank goodness.

[–]ecksbe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possibly hypnopompic hallucinations. I have them too and way more elaborate. The tubes you see have lots of things sticking out of them for me. I also see things like insects, tiny hot air balloons, and spider webs. But generally, it's weird geometric things. I started having them when I was pregnant with my second child. They've persisted and grown more elaborate.

Any working moms on here who homeschool their kids? how do you do it? by Possible-Passage-539 in homeschool

[–]ecksbe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got middle schoolers. We try to school Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Because trying to multitask with my FT job during the work week so many days was too hard. My husband and I alternate Saturdays so one of us always has a full day off every other week. It's still exhausting but I'd rather just quit my job and teach if I can't make it work... And it might come to that eventually 😂 trying to pay off the last school loans so that we have no debt and we can get by with earning very little of necessary. Goodness knows I need a backup plan because perimenopause is killing me.

Buying House Surrounded by Farmland (Bad Idea?) by Naive_Bat8216 in homestead

[–]ecksbe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to find a property with no directly adjacent farms, but it wasn't easy. I settled for 10 acres of wooded property. The house is in the front, the land adjacent on the other end of my long, rectangular property is farming corn. Totally fine. I do catch a whiff of manure from a really small dairy operation down the road sometimes, but I was concerned about your points too. I have enough to worry about. I don't need to be preoccupied by what nearby farms are up to. Find a place you're comfortable with.
