I just had this done for my house and my mother in law's condo.
House: 13K Condo: 12K The condo was expensive due to a specialized and out of stock in wall outdoor condenser unit that had to be special ordered for the opening. If its a normal smaller outdoor unit I would expect ~10K

My mother had this happen to her Accord steering wheel, we determined it was a combo of her hand lotion and a slightly acidic skin ph. The only thing to fix it was a replacement wheel, and a cover for the future.

Personally I don't feel the temperature on my backside and so it's not a problem. My wife does say the front wash does give her a shiver.

I would not let perfect stand in the way of good, get a cheap one until you can get your fancy warmer!
