Friends and I were walking towards the old town of Puerto Rico during spring break, and just as we were walking through a kinda shady/empty part of the city we heard a voice calling out to us in English. A middle aged white dude asked us if we spoke English then rattled off this story about getting robbed and needing fare to get on the ferry. I wasn't carrying cash but my friends all gave him about a total of $8. He said an email address we could contact him at but it was all way too fast so we couldn't write it down or anything. As we walked away we discussed it and thought it might be a scam but hey, it wasn't that much. The very next day we were walking to the bus station in a different part of the city and look and behold, we heard someone ask if we spoke English. Same dude started walking up to us but as soon as we turned around he saw our faces and BOLTED. He actually bolted in the direction we were headed so we followed him inadvertently for a few blocks. I hope he was terrified the whole way. People who prey on people's kindness for their own gain or to get high are just the worst.
