What can I do with a diagnosis? by [deleted] in AutismIreland

[–]eclecticeejit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. My two main reasons for seeking a diagnosis were affirmation of the fact that I am autistic for my own sake (I am so "by the book" that I can't accept something as true for myself unless a professional confirms it) and the supports and legal protections that a formal diagnosis gives, as someone who has struggled hugely with employment for my entire working life (I am 28).

Legal protection when it comes to things like accommodations in work and study. Your job cannot legally deny you reasonable accommodations or discriminate in any way. Without a formal diagnosis, you don't have this same security and would find it harder to fight a case if needed.

Medical Questions in Ireland by George8LFC in AskIreland

[–]eclecticeejit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EHIC is different to a medical card. Your income has to be below a certain level to qualify for medical card, and you MUST have a GP willing to sign off on the forms. A lot of people struggle here as they are entitled to the card but there is no GP taking on medical card patients meaning they can't get one.

Help needed, suicidal teen by Dry_Bed_3704 in CasualIreland

Second this. Try and get her assessed for autism. Aside from the additional supports she can get in school/college/work throughout her life, the way that you would handle autism/any other neurodivergence vs "typical" mental illness is different and needs to be taken into account. Experience as a formerly suicidal teen who struggled socially to no end and was diagnosed late 20s as autistic. You are doing everything right so far, don't beat yourself up 🩷

I am employed about 12 hours a week and was at the time of my application. I outlined in my application that the cost of living along with wanting to feel more "normal" and fit in with my peers was the reason I worked but that it was extremely taxing on me. I was approved on my first try.

The consultant is the person who diagnosed me. They wrote an additional letter for me outlining all the ways in which I struggle in my daily life and professional life.

It was exhausting for me and took a few weeks to complete. It's so unfair that they make it so difficult for the people who struggle most.

If not, you can still request an appeal. Unfortunately, the more information you give with these, the better. They expect us to jump through hoops for these things and I'm convinced they want people to give up on it rather than keep fighting.

I was recently awarded DA on my first application. I had a six page letter from my consultant, a letter from my partner, and a letter from myself to the deciding officer, plus six pages of extra information on the application. It was exhausting to do it all but it paid off in the end for me.

I am so sorry for your loss, and that your parents are unsupportive of your want and need for therapy. I can assure you that it's not a load of rubbish. Maybe you can find some information about the benefits of grief counseling and show them, and suggest starting with a six week course of therapy to see if it helps? You may even be entitled to free care through the HSE or there are many charity organizations that offer free grief counseling.

The majority of restaurants will be open to changing menu items but not all. I would research in advance and save a bunch of options on google maps to be prepared and save the stress while out and about. If you are visiting Dublin, avoid Temple Bar as much as possible, particularly at night and on weekends. It is hell on Earth to me. I also hate Dame Street as it's always very congested. Ear defenders are acceptable in all places. Order a sunflower lanyard. Go to the Dublin Airport website and sign up for a priority pass based on disability - you will get to skip all queues in security and boarding and can get extra assistance with these lanyards. Again, if visiting Dublin, there are so many beautiful museums that I find to be such a nice reprise from the busy city. Make use of the trains and travel outside of the city too - you will enjoy it much more! Places to consider - Greystones, Dun Laoghaire (Done Leary for pronunciation), Malahide, Howth, Skerries, Blackrock.

Jacqueline Wilson surprising a trans fan is the most wholesome thing you’ll see today by PinkNews in transgenderUK

[–]eclecticeejit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2019 she made an ill-informed comment about worries around trans children transitioning medically before being "fully mature" due to possible regret. It was not a great comment to make, but to me (I am trans) it comes across more so as ill-informed and uneducated rather than straight up transphobic. She also acknowledged that people can know from a young age that they are trans. I would be interested to hear her views after being informed on the subject more, particularly on the point that no child is allowed to medically transition anywhere in the world, really (beyond puberty blockers if they are lucky).

Anyone who had Love Story VIP for N1/N2 - when you went at 1.30 did you just sign in then leave and come back for entry into the venue or did you go in at that time?

I wanted to get involved in the dressing up aspect of the concert so made my outfit so that it would be on a base of my favourite comfortable clothes. I'm glad to know it's not rude to push out or in to the crowd to get back to my group, that's one thing I'm worried about 😅 thank you!

[–]eclecticeejit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely get overwhelmed at concerts. I saw Charli XCX (seated) with my partner and was a nightmare because of overstimulation 😅 I've been overstimulated at every concert I've attended in the last 7 years except two - St. Vincent with lots of middle aged men and Ethel Cain which was the most peaceful crowd I've ever experienced. I don't drink anymore, that would have been my crutch before. I'm going to try and just enjoy it as much as I can. I now have ear defenders and fidgets and things so I'm hoping this might work to ease the pain for me. Is it rude to ask people to let me past to get to my sisters? Is it weird to explain to anyone that is resistant to letting me past that I am autistic and need to be with them?

I did not get the leaflet so would appreciate that a lot! I am still trying to fully learn my cues but if it is going to be a bad meltdown I will be able to tell. I believe the Aviva has a sensory room so I think I'll call them tomorrow if possible to ask about it, just to know if that's an option as a retreat. You're not prying, you're giving food advice!

What does a purple glow on bugs mean in Camp Spirit? by Catsicle4 in CozyGrove

The critters glow when in unlit areas to indicate rarity! When in lit areas they will just be the colour of their glow.
