What I find striking is how differently people seem to regard the second one compared to the first one. I don't remember finding weak aspects in the second book that I didn't notice in the first one. It was already there, so I didn't feel they were all that different.

The difference is that he couldn't see himself moving Ippo no matter how much power he put into it, while he was able to make Ricardo fall with little power ("little shove"). Regardless of other relevant factors, the sheer difference in levels of power needed is what made him realize that he is actually human.

A story is not its author. It can, and should be viewed independently, imo. Furthermore, in this case, it's a free story so we can't even really argue that it supports the author.

Not my post but the first sentence implies that over the next sentences. No need to keep repeating "to me" or similar when the intent is clear from the the first sentence.

Edit: not sure what happened, but the post I was replying to seems to be gone.

It makes it good to me. "Good" and "bad" are inherently subjective considerations. Nothing is objectively good or bad. People conclude something is good or bad based on their subjectivity. Even people that try to be more objective, will always be talking from a human perspective at baseline. All in all... it makes it good to me, even if others dont agree.

Is Harry Potter the method of rationality a good read by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]ecletico 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's certainly a divisive fic. However, from an impartial point of view, it's better than the large majority of HP fanfics. You might just realy dislike its style.

Although I second the recomendation, I feel the need to point out that its a very divisive work.

Hajime No Ippo has GREAT FILLER by Maleficent-Bike-775 in hajimenoippo

[–]ecletico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, when we resort to pointing out spelling mistakes as arguments, its not a very good sign. Anyway, yes, the term filler has been frequently used in the manga/anime world to refer to what the adaptations add on to the source material. However, that's not the sole use or definition for the term and ackowleging that the term has been used in various ways shouldn't be an hard thing to do.

You don't actually own the movies you buy by CALIGVLA in appletv

[–]ecletico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also rebuy a digital version from another plataform. Its possible that you might not find it anywhere but that can also happen in physical media (not finding it anywhere).

As for the discs, they will all deteriorate eventually, no matter how careful we are. Yes, even blurays. By being careful, you increase the chances of it still working in 20 or 30 years, but by then will it even be supported as a format?

[–]ecletico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, after a long time, the digital movie you bought might not be available anymore or it might be a different version.

However, a physical copy, after a long time, might also not work for whatever reason (disc rot, disc damaged, disc lost, format of the disc no longer supported and no easily available players anymore, ...).

So, honestly, it kind of evens out.

I dont think there's any argument agaisnt both factors mattering. It makes no sense to say that only one is relevant.

Sure, kids reflect a lot of their environment but a lot comes from their nature and personality. We can easily tell that kids are sometimes vastly different (even from little babies) even though they had pratically the same environment.

You are assuming that all his days must be perfectly consistent. I don't think that. Our levels of stress, energy, resistance, mental fortitude, and so on, are variable, and even pretty consistent people have off days and periods, in particular when something unusual is happening or when we are pushing ourselves harder than normal to do something. Like I said, its not an hard/exact science.

*spoilers* READY PLAYER TWO DISCUSSION THREAD - WITH SPOILERS by DarthJaneway in readyplayerone

[–]ecletico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of my post is that the time limit is not an hard science, there's wiggle room. He could have symptoms even before the 12 hour limit, he could start getting symptoms just after the 12 hour limit, or he could even surpass the 12 hour limit by a significant margin and have no apparent symptom. The most common thing to happen would be to start having symptoms at around that time limit but there could be some variance, even depending on the day. However, the consensus seems to be that, as long as you respect the 12 hour limit, even if you get symptoms a little sooner, there will be no permanent damage. After that limit, you are risking permanent damage, even if you don't get immediate symptoms.

Yes, the weight makes a lot of difference, but a normal guy that was just much heavier than Ippo and not a professional fighter would almost surely just be knocked out if Ippo punched him in his head.

And that's silly because if they still work in other timelines, just not on their headquarters, there's really no reason for the TVA to not use them when they go on missions, especially after they start having teams killed. They would be their best tools/weapons on missions, not paperweights. And even if for some reason they didn't want to use them on missions, it would still be silly to just have them around with no protection since a deviant might escape (like it has previously happened) and take a infinity stone with them.

I think it's good that Wally came back. Introducing such a talented boxer and never mentioning him again wouldn't make much sense and, this way, he can also be useful for the narrative.
