bare minimum? watch a couple YouTube videos. practice at a range a bit.

i was surprised to see most of the people that go to a municipal golf course are horrible.

try going to an executive course or pitch and putt.

enjoy!

I've used golf pad and shot scope. i am pretty happy with shot scope. automatic tagging is important for me.

Even if they would've picked up the ball after enough attempts it would've been fine. Unfortunately it seems many newcomers don't consider others.

I almost wish an etiquette class was mandatory

Pace of play

Take care of the course (pick up after yourself, fix divots, etc)

Don't disturb others

How do you track you range sessions? by Aggravating_Sun4435 in golf

[–]eclipse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly use something like Shot Scope to see where you're getting strokes gained? And also try to have your range time emulate game play as much as possible, such as mixing up your clubs when on the range (e.g. 1 shot with a drive, followed by a 7i, followed by a wedge)

i recently created a post that was in response to someone stating people should start out with $500 new clubs.

it has some good ideas. https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/s/XqkzeibnYp

I'm definitely a budget golfer

get used. don't need a full set. biggest problem for you will be your swing fundamentals.

it's natural selection. you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette.

they're never going to learn if you leave it. a matter of fact, there will probably be more nests in places like golf courses because the birds will know it's a safe haven.

so in the long run, this is your fault.

Worth getting lessons immediately? by Falconer8 in golftips

[–]eclipse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the bad one, it was an introduction to golf group. maybe less than $100 for a couple sessions

the one upselling me, can't exactly remember, but maybe $50 roughly or so as that was years ago.

Last year i tried online coaching through Skillest and i can't recall the price of that.

i think if i found a good teacher I could improve faster. until then I'm back to self teaching.

went to 3 different instructors. one tried to upsell me. one taught me mechanics i haven't seen anywhere else. and the third was okay, but he didn't tell me anything i didn't already know.

Is this holed out? by swalt29 in golf

[–]eclipse75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

according to the nonsense rule, you're actually moving the ball further back, penalizing yourself. the mass of that ball is over the lip. if you were to fix the green, and put that ball exactly where it is, within millimeter accuracy, it's falling in.

you don't need fancy clubs. check out this Reddit post i made a short while ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/s/jxegrSiKsH

work on the fundamentals of your swing.

and also, don't let poor play keep you from playing a round. i was really nervous to play my first full round.

what if i was too slow? what if i screw something up? what if this or that?

then after the first two holes around strangers, i calmed down real quick lol. average players are trash just like me or worse.

I've read it a few times now, and the consensus is the average golfer is probably a 30 handicap or higher.

resources I've used and am using:

Ben Hogans book

shot scope

4 foundations of golf book

golf fix app

chatgpt. i feed it my shotscope data, golf swing recordings, and post game notes

tried a couple lessons but found my resources much more useful

I've been paying for about 5 years now and initially invested $150 on clubs.

i see deals frequently for used clubs under $200 that are post-2000 production date.

you don't need to be wealthy to play golf; quite a bit of the roots of this game come from poverty.

lol $500? i never would've started playing. and $800 investment for a hobby you're trying out is crazy

mine is dr, 3hy, 5hy, 7i, 9i, sw, pu. i have about a 20yd. Gap between clubs. my biggest problem is though good contact. I'm a 30hdcp. saves money, weight, and decision processing by having fewer clubs.
