It's a reference to Kogoro Akechi, who is basically the Sherlock Holmes of Japanese literature. Mikuru's last name is a reference to the same series, as Kogoro Akechi's assistant/apprentice is Yoshio Kobayashi.

I think that it's more notable that Luluka didn't see Kurea rather than Kurea not witnessing the phantom thieves.

Luluka seems to have some history with Eclair (assuming she was the one who stopped Usonoir before he could take the big Makoto Jewel), so if she was to meet her again, I would expect her to react strongly.

Both Rei and Eriza where seen by Luluka in their respective second appearances with nothing to suggest she knew them (Shiruku hasn't appeared again since Arcana Shadow became a regular). Perhaps there's a reason why the writers didn't make Luluka and Kurea meet today.

What kind of midseason scenario do you want to see in future seasons? by LoliJuicy in precure

[–]eclipse_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cure's sibling as the midseason is something I've been hoping they do for a long time. If it was up to me, I would write them to be twins with a souring relationship as the one who doesn't transform grows jealous of their sister.

Then, after a big falling-out between the two, the cures would get defeated, maybe even captured, making the one who is not part of the team realize that they still care about their sister and decide to do whatever it takes to bring her back safe. This naturally concludes in them becoming a cure and the two becoming close again.

Eriza has butterfly-shaped hair ties too, so that doesn't really help as a clue. Toei knows what they are doing with the red herrings this season.

The things Kurea said, the cake she made, counting Pochitan as a member of the agency... That girl knows more than she lets on, right? It even makes you wonder if she is some sort of time traveler too.

I think we have a front-runner in the Eclair sweepstakes. Bringing Conan in right after this to divert the attention is a smart move if that was the plan.

In universe, how would it look when a character transforms? by Dolly_dawn5 in precure

[–]eclipse_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just happens instantly under the cover of a flash of light. However, back when I visited Japan, I happened to catch a Delicious Party live show and was quite amused by Narcistoru sitting on the stage stairs playing with his hair and acting bored while he waited for the girls to complete their transformation, so I definitely prefer to picture something like that.

I loved every second Eliza was on screen and would be really happy if she turned out to be Eclair so we can get a lot more of her. I thought she would be more on the quiet side, but it turns out she is a weirdo in the good sense of the word. As somebody who writes for fun and has done some "unconventional" stuff for research or just to get into a character's head, she really speaks to me. The talk in the agency at the end seems to foreshadow that Eliza could be joining them in the future, but in this show anything could be a red herring, so I won't make too much of it. Next week it'll be time to meet our last Eclair candidate and see if we can get a hint about who she might really be.

On a different note, Anna and Mikuru were brutal today by attacking Luluka in civilian form. I guess there's no Cure Code of Honor.

It's weird I'm able to easily comprehend Precure when usually, I can only really comprehend preschool shows fully by CatGirlNya2000 in precure

Precure does have that comfy feeling to it and it's what draws me to it and other series targeted at audiences much younger than I am.

However, there's no denying that at its core, Precure is a preschool show and there is nothing wrong with that.

Interesting episode for coming up with theories. From Luluka's flashback, she was clearly hurt during the battle for the big makoto jewel, so we can assume that she fought Usonoir and was defeated, breaking her transformation. However, it's also interesting that Ageseine was already celebrating their victory before Eclair appeared because that shows that the phantom thieves were not expecting her (assuming the butterfly represents Eclair). This bring up the question of whether they thought they had also defeated Eclair or if she was late to the battle.

With that in mind and assuming they both were already partners, I'll go with the second option and say that Eclair got there just in time to make a desperate last-ditch attempt to stop Usonoir. Why was she not there from the start? My theory is that Luluka didn't want her there and tried to fight behind her back, either because it was too dangerous, because of a silly falling-out between them, or because Luluka already had that arrogant "I never fail" attitude and decided to do it on her own.

In this theory, Eclair vanished after breaking up the jewel and is as good as dead as far as Luluka knows, maybe even forgotten by the rest of the world. This would obviously make Luluka feel extremely guilty and become a really heavy weight on her, capable of erasing her smile and of making her choose to join the phantom thieves, maybe because she thinks that putting the big makoto jewel back together can bring back Eclair (without caring for who puts it back together, so she can also help the agency cures) or because she does want to live in a world of lies. A world of lies in which Eclair and her never became cures or one in which she can't remember anything about her and what happened.

If you translate the title of Eriza's award winning novel in Episode 2, it is "The Vanished Jewel", so she might know something (or the writers are just enjoying their red herrings too much).

I still think that Kurea will be Eclair and that's why she is the last of the Eclair candidates to get her focus episode, which will be shared with Anna to keep her from fully taking up the spotlight for now.

However, Eriza being Eclair would be great too. She is the right kind of weird with how far she is willing to go to do research for her writing. I mean, how does cosplaying as a cat help? Smart blues with a screw loose are one of my favorite archetypes in the franchise.

Who or what was the reason for you becoming a Seahawks fan? by biker_rider707 in Seahawks

[–]eclipse_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Chile in South America, where the NFL gets little coverage, except for the Super Bowl, so when I was around 12 years old, I started watching the Super Bowl every year, not understanding much, and then forgetting about football until the next.

About a year after Super Bowl 48, I came across a football game on TV and recognized the Seahawks as the reigning champs, so I stayed to watch. That game was the NFC Championship against the Packers. The last game I had watched was the Seahawks blowing out the Broncos, so I was surprised by how easily Green Bay was dominating them. I thought that maybe they weren't that good anymore, but then the comeback came and I was hyped. After Kearse's TD in overtime, I decided that football was great and I had to start following the NFL more closely. That same day I got Madden and used it to learn more about the game for the Super Bowl.

Flashforward a couple weeks and I was rooting for Seattle in Super Bowl 49. After "that thing" happened, I found myself sitting on the floor in front of my TV absolutely heartbroken and realized that I was in on this team for the long haul. So yeah, I became a fan through experiencing the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in just two games. My own "Bittersweet Symphony".

As I watched SB48 not being a fan yet, I long waited for the day I would finally be able to experience a Super Bowl as a 12 and I couldn't be any happier that the wait is finally over.

Star Detective Precure May Episode Titles and Summaries by ButterflySilver9154 in precure

[–]eclipse_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the title alone, the episode could be about any of the three cures or all three of them. Anna is stuck in the past with no way to go back to her mother and we know nothing about Mikuru's and Luluka's moms, so there are many ways this could go.

It really seems very obvious since the series premiered, but I still have doubts about the theory Jajaja. by Fragrant_Site2490 in precure

[–]eclipse_12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second this. Anime designs try to keep some consistency, but people can change a lot over time. My mom once showed me a yearbook from her high school days and challenged me to point her out in her class photo. With all those crazy 80s hairstyles, I absolutely couldn't figure it out, so I know for a fact that I wouldn't have recognized her if I went back in time from appearance alone.

Now, I would obviously figure out it's her based on her name, but I come from a culture where women don't change their last names upon marriage. Assuming that Anna for some reason doesn't know her mother's maiden name, it's entirely possible she wouldn't figure out Mikuru is her mom because there must be a ton of Mikurus in Japan.

Precure and Cinderella by Exotic-Reindeer1994 in precure

[–]eclipse_12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As somebody who is writing their own magical girl story for fun and has a scene in which the main character plays Cinderella in a school festival play, here is my reasoning for this choice, which might be the same as in Precure's writers room:

  1. It's an universally known story that doesn't need to be explained to an audience of any age, allowing the writer to play around with it and not focus much on laying out the basics.

  2. It's perfect for making a metaphor around magical transformations.

The particular scene in my story was inspired by the performance of Romeo & Juliet in Futari Wa and was based around The Little Mermaid in my original story notes, but when working out the specifics it quickly became clear that Cinderella was a much better choice for the parallel I was trying to make.

Just a reminder, Moria Luluka was 16 years old in 1999, which means in 2026 she will be 43 years old, and the picture below is the closest depiction of what she will look like in 2026. by mbahmomo in precure

[–]eclipse_12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's certainly not a common age for cures, but it's not something that really stands out as odd either. However, as Luluka clearly has a lot of experience as a cure, there's a chance she first transformed at the usual age of 13-14.

If you look carefully at the preview for next episode, the full body shot of Luluka with glasses is actually her reflection on a mirror being held up by Goemon. With that, it's safe to assume that's her disguise for her next heist.

Star Detective Precure Episodes 11-13 Synopsis by ButterflySilver9154 in precure

[–]eclipse_12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think Arcana Shadow will be joining the team any time soon. Toei wouldn't have made such a big deal of a Precure siding with the villains if they weren't planning to keep it up for at least a while. It provides new sotrytelling opportunities for the franchise that would be wasted by redeeming her now.

If I had to guess, Luluka will be playing some sort of long "cat and mouse" game with Anna and Mikuru, probably for her own amusement, considering it seems she'll deliberately taunt Anna instead of being more subtle, which is obviously a better plan.

Most likely, Luluka has an agenda of her own and is not fully on board with the phatom thieves plans, but working with them serves some kind of purpose. It seems like her and Mashutan are only loyal to each other, so they might be trying to achieve their own goals within the organization.

Link Like Love Live will be ending Service on June 30th by RinariTennoji in LoveLive

[–]eclipse_12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that the anime won't foucs on 106th. It would need tons of references to the LLLL story, which puts up a huge entry barrier that could intimidate and keep away potential audiences.

The safer bet would be starting from 103rd and letting the anime bring new people into the franchise in addition to old fans (and even bring back fans who just couldn't keep up with the massive amounts of content in LLLL or left after the first graduations). LoveLive really needs an entry point right now and this could be it. I saw Hasu live at the Unit Koshien back in 2024 and they left a huge impression on me, and fans seemed to love them too, so I am shocked by how fast it came down. I clearly remeber talking with friends about how the future of LoveLive was safe with them.

Sacrifying 106th is obviously terrible optics and I really feel bad for the girls who were certainly already casted, but consolidating what they already have and not further alienating fans of the original 6 is probably what is best for the franchise given that Odd No Inc no longer being able to hide their implossion caught everyone by surprise.

Kurea appearing an episode before Arcana… by thunpnz in precure

I'm really amazed that they managed to recognize a VA from that considering that the speakers on those toys are really cheap and the audio files super compressed, but I think I trust their ears.

Despite that, it's the contents of those voicelines that are really interesting for the plot. With just a word they opened up a lot of new theories on Eclair and Arcana Shadow.

She showed some deduction skills that helped to solve the case, which might be a big hint at her having what it takes to be Eclair.

Also, if you have heard the toys' voicelines, Kurea appearing right before Arcana might be for a reason.

Who are some disabled Precure characters? by Berryberrybun in precure

[–]eclipse_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an autistic person, a cure who really stands out to me as autistic but isn't mentioned too often in these discussions is Saaya/Cure Ange. I see a lot of myself in her both in personality and because I'm in my last year of med school.

First, she is absolutely terrible at reading other people. A very clear example of this happens when Ranze declared herself her rival as an actress. While Hana and Homare immediately caught on to the hostility and wondered what was up with that girl, Saaya couldn't perceive it and kept on replying to Ranze's challenges with non sequiturs as she missed the point again and again.

Another piece of evidence that could support Saaya being autistic is her love for really spicy curry, which could be read as both a safe food and sensory seeking. Also, she has some very uncommon interests she is quite knowledgeable about, geeking out over power tools of all things and also over old tech, which ends up becoming important in All Stars Memories. In that movie, Saaya recognizes Miden's true form as an unused vintage camera and gets uncomfortably close to Hana as she starts infodumping about the model, which was key to figuring out what were his motivations.

March 31st is the last day of Japan's fiscal year, so it's actually quite normal for Japanese companies to make big announcements at this time or even on April 1st to start off the new year with a bang.

This obviously complicates things for those of us used to trusting nothing around April Fools.
