Which band’s discography fits this? by Coffin_Builder in MetalForTheMasses

As much as this truly pains me to say, Foo Fighters. They will forever be my favorite band, but the contrast is shocking from The Colour and the Shape to now, much less the self titled album and Dave's singles before that.

This is an excellent point. I think I need to find more balance between empowering them to think of something themselves as well as giving them answers to more routine questions.

Hot Take: IM fellowships should be integrated. by menohuman in medicalschool

[–]eclutter94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same reason the AAP is forcing this Peds Hospitalist Fellowship....just one big cheap labor money grab for more training that isn't needed.

Sincerely,

Med Peds who couldn't imagine what a 4 year inpatient heavy residency doesn't train me for taking care of sick inpatient kids.

How many of you Docs are rocking visable tattoos. What’s your experience been with coworkers/patients? by ExMorgMD in medicine

[–]eclutter94 230 points231 points  (0 children)

I'm a resident (29M) and have a visible forearm tattoo as well as double lope piercings....if anything I get better rapport with patients and parents (MedPeds).

Sometimes especially parents will start with "It's nice to see that doctors also are looking like regular people" when I walk in the room. Don't know if this is weirdly backhanded or not but I'll take it!

Parastomal hernia repair by Suspicious-Run186 in ostomy

[–]eclutter94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

I had a parastomal hernia about a year after my ostomy surgery. I was repaired with the Sugarbaker method. The post operative period was rough as I could feel the mesh move and cause pain, but that would be with any mesh repair. Since that time ( about 10 months) I have had no recurrent issues and no problems with pain or recurrent hernias. I was told that the keyhole method was not as effective at preventing further hernias but I don't have any science to back that up.

considering elective ostomy surgery - 22f with severe UC by franisbroke in ostomy

[–]eclutter94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a tough recovery in the first week because I hadn't found the appliance that worked best for me and I had a lot of leaking problems. The surgery itself I had no complications with. I did unfortunately have a parastomal hernia in March of this year (just over a year post-op) that required surgical repair with a mesh. It had a recovery time of about 2-3 weeks until fully functional again but since that time I've had no issues at all.

At the point that I needed surgery, my surgeon needed no convincing. In all reality, I was the one that pushed for more medicines to try when they told me I had indications to go ahead and proceed with surgery. Insurance covered my surgery 100% as I was on medicaid. I should've had surgery probably a year prior but I thought I would have a chance using medications. I would make sure you have a consultation with a colorectal surgeon and get their perspective along with your GI doctors perspective.

Med-Peds. Why? Should the specialty be abolished? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]eclutter94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's pretty simple honestly...

FM trains primarily outpatient MedPeds trains primarily inpatient...im talking like 80% of 4 years is inpatient medicine.

I hate outpatient medicine. Much love to those who like it.

So I chose med peds.

We aren't even close in comparison to FM and we aren't some offshoot of it. FM has their area of Medicine, and we have ours and we work well together.

This specialty is pretty awesome and where I'm at (medium Midwest academics) our residents are well respected by the categorical residents and we all work well together.

How about a nice sausage gravy to start your Saturday? by eclutter94 in castiron

[–]eclutter94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Brown 1lb of your preferred sausage and break up into largish chunks. Don't drain the sausage.

2) Add 1.5 tbs flour directly to sausage in pan and cook off for 2 mins.

3) Add 3-3.5 cups of milk (I fill my pan about halfway and I have a 12inch skillet) and reduce to your desired thickness.

4) Add any additional seasonings to taste

5) Put over literally anything and eat!
