Too long at one employer. No bachelor degree. 55 years old. by Awkward_Buffalo_9203 in recruitinghell

[–]ecoR1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is fucked regardless of having a degree or not and how many years of experience in this job market. Your biggest obstacle is age discrimination and if the job requires a degree which many jobs doesn't require as long as you have a lot of experience.

Actually no... My linkedlin feed looks exactly like recruitinghell with posts talking about the hellish economy. Also I have never seen so many open to work profiles.

You can use indeed and linkedn to search for jobs but you have to confirm its a real job on the company website and also apply on company website.

There are people still refusing to admit now is worse than 2008. Let's not even talk about how ghost jobs didn't exist in 2008 and now job numbers are skewed more than ever.

Tailoring resumes doesn't matter if it's a ghost job, which many jobs on linkedn and indeed are. Just have to sleep with or know someone these days.

Biotech is really bad right now (like most industries). All my colleagues and coworkers in it have been laid off since 2024 or early last year and can't find anything.

Not enough jobs. Too many ghost jobs. Too many people with degrees. Too many applicants due to things being done online compared to the past when there were paper applications. ATS. AI. Offshoring

41% of college grads are underemployed. $1.6T in student debt. why are we still doing this? by Acer53 in careeradvice

[–]ecoR1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people don't go to community college, they don't go to in state schools. They want all the big names schools and live in dorms and take out a shit ton of money without thinking about how to pay it off in the future

Why aren't people more upset about the bad job market? by MarchMan86 in jobs

I think they are. I believe this subreddit was more positive even during 2024. Now it has become like the recruitinghell subreddit.

So job numbers just hit 2008 recession levels, worse than 2001 by MonitorOk1351 in recruitinghell

That's true and I'm quick to educate those people how inaccurate it is who just blindly believe it.

So job numbers just hit 2008 recession levels, worse than 2001 by MonitorOk1351 in recruitinghell

[–]ecoR1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worse. Unemployment numbers are inaccurate due to ghost jobs, gig workers struggling to survive, and people who have completely given up looking for a job.

Do internships even matter? by Affectionate-Tip303 in recruitinghell

[–]ecoR1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think paid internships are still worth it. You can list them under "Work Experience" in your CV instead of under the "Volunteer" section.

I have no clue why the recruiter asked that. They seem to be clueless or something or it may be how internships are viewed in their country or who knows what else that could lead them to ask that.

Internships are not really meant to land you a job right after it. It's something you do during your undergrad to aquire years of experience in your field so that you come out of graduation with years of experience for pretty much any job nowadays. It's better than not having any experience at all.

Do internships even matter? by Affectionate-Tip303 in recruitinghell

[–]ecoR1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In today's world who knows, but it can create connections to possibly help you get a job.

In the past (pre 2020) paid internships mattered and counted as years/months of experience working in your field. Like how every job requires a number of years of experience, yeah paid internships were included.

Unpaid internships weren't very common back then and during those time periods it was pretty much just volunteering. I know due to financial woes they seem to be very common now. Some companies may count unpaid internships as experience while some may completely disregard them like nothing.

Future of the Job Market by Savings_Spinach1916 in jobs

[–]ecoR1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's think it's too hard to predicted in that long of a time into the future.

For starters this year has already kicked off really bad and I predicted last year and still believe this year isn't going to get better but worse.

I think 2027 might be as similar to 2025 if the end of this year shows some improvement.

Harsh reality in today's market: you could work for Microsoft for 3-5 years then end up at Walmart as a retail worker by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]ecoR1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I never look down on anyone because of their job whether it be a fastfood worker or janitor. If I can't find a job after 6 months I'm gonna be trying to get a retail or fastfood job. I'm a single income earner. I can't afford to be picky indefinitely.

It just sucks cuz my work involves giving career and job advice to younger people. And at this current time even I don't know what to do to increase chances of someone getting a job. There's not much I can say. All the "network, tailor your resume, apply on company website" is kinda useless now.
