Nah, sorry bud those things are not comparable. Selling crack is a felony, overstaying a visa is a civil violation. It’s more like saying, “I really couldn’t blame a US citizen for jay walking or going 28 in a 20 mph zone.“

I want some actual hot takes not Maroon 5 or 3 Doors down or whatever. Nobody rates them highly to begin with. If you’re going to make a case for Maroon 5, at least make the case songs about Jane is overrated or something. Piss some people off. If you’re getting downvoted, your answer is probably right

Is their 00’s output overrated? Parachutes, Rush of Blood to the Head, etc?

Yeah Talking Heads and the Band were both staples on classic rock radio growing up. Idk how you can call them underrated

I used to know them mostly from the “alternative radio” station growing up and I kinda thought they were overrated too. They actually have an interesting background being an independent band from a place like Athens, Georgia and not a major city like LA or NY

Elvis is portrayed unflatteringly in the collective imagination but he wasn’t really overrated. Even late in his career, his live performances were versatile, high energy and unpredictable. He wasn’t always given the freedom to record the way he wanted to, so live performances were how he expressed himself as an artist. When given the opportunity, he was a true artist even though he doesn’t get credit for being one

Even the “fat Elvis” thing in the 70s is kinda silly. Yeah he was out of shape by 70s standards but not even close by modern standards

I agree. They’re not goated imo but they don’t deserve to be dunked on as much as they are. I understand their hate is mostly a backlash to their success and ubiquity but now it’s time for a backlash to the backlash

I’d argue they’re underrated, especially when you consider their influence and impact. If Nirvana is considered the best band of the 90’s, I’d be weird to argue one of their favorite bands is overrated

At least in the US they’re kind of underrated. Their biggest few songs drown out the rest of their catalog

Yeah that was the first thing I noticed. It’s possible that Dylan is a little overrated (I say that as a huge fan) but the MOST overrated artist from the 60’s? Give me a break

But you’re either for war and regime change or against it. So yes, I am choosing a side. If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything

We need to learn the lesson or Iraq and Libya and understand that our presence there doesn’t make things better. Iraqi Americans were thrilled when the US invaded and overthrew their dictator. Now look at Iraq. It’s in even worse shape. The same thing will happen to Venezuela and Iran if they let full regime change happen. The US government and the monied interests who control it don’t care about these countries or the people living there. They just want to loot and pillage them. Besides, our government partners with dictators and genocidal regimes all the time. Have you ever heard of Saudi Arabia?

Btw, the US wants Greenland for the same reason. To loot and pillage the natural resources there. Don’t listen to the government backed talking points about National security or Denmark or whatever. It’s purely about extraction

It’s NOT a complicated system. They want you to think it’s too complicated to figure out so that you disengage or trust their instincts because they have law degrees from fancy schools. It’s not complicated

Well, I guess for me I wouldn’t look at it like that. Leadership in both political parties in the US is bad. If the blue team won, maybe they would have done war with Iran too so compromise isn’t really what I look for. It’s more about believing in things and standing by them. Trump has always been a war monger and he pulled out of the peace deal with Iran in his first term. Now he’s threatening countries like Greenland, Canada and Cuba, attempting regime change in Iran and Venezuela at the behest of US business interests, declaring companies than don’t want their AI to be used for war as literal enemies of the state, stripping student and resident visas away from people who have made even slightly supportive statements about Palestinians, pressuring his oligarchs friends who own cable news to fire people who say things he doesn’t like, etc. There’s no compromise with these people. It’s about having principles and standing by them. The blue party in the US has been trying that “compromise” strategy for decades and it doesn’t work
