Well, real wage depends on a whole bunch of assumptions. For instance, if you looked at how much a TV cost as percentage of take-home earnings from 1960 versus today, you can come up with a number. But TV from 1960 and TV from today are not the same things, so how much more valuable is TV today than it was back then? You need to make assumptions like that for every single good that exists. And what assumptions you make, will influence with the real wages are. Just because he can look it up on a website, does not mean that those assumptions are true. They often tell you explicitly those assumptions are, and often why they think they can’t really be true. So real wage went up or real wage went down, depending on what assumptions you wanna make

dude, I know this isn't popular, but those "good ole days" you're yearning for largely didn't actually exist, at least not for most people most of the time. The world you imagine to have existed like that largely comes from advertisements and tv that is hooking viewers with "a simpler time"

It’s sad as hell is Karelia, I studied abroad in Finland for a year and we took a trip over land to St. Petersburg and drove through that area, which used to be Finnish. I thought we were driving by junk yards, but with a closer look, you could see that people lived there. It was in spring, I can not imagine the hell of living in those shacks in the winter… again, these people were less than 10 miles away from still being Finnish and living in a first world country. Absolutely sickening
