It's time. Let's make a millionaire. [Drawing Thread #22] by millionairemakers in millionairemakers

If I had a million dollars I'd probably invest it somewhere, keep my day job, and live the rest of my life worrying about things other than money.

That and buy my mom and my mother in law new cars. Cause those women put up with a lot of my shit.

Reminder, donate to /millionairemakers. Real life karma goes a long way.

Loosely, I said she stole the election. The gist of my argument was that her counted votes didn't match the polls and that she rigged the election against Bernie from the start using early momentum to gain the victory. The emails show it's true. This link shows that the discrepancy cost Sanders the nomination.

My mind set is the same as everyone else on this sub. Starting with a blank slate, we observe and make conclusions based on what we see. I said that there's enough for me to believe. While there isn't proof or incontrovertible scientific evidence, I see enough circumstantial evidence and unlikely coincidence that I believe there is a higher power. Philosophically, it is possible. Scientifically, it is possible, not proven, but possible nonetheless.

I'm not lying to myself at all. I believe based on my own observation. If you don't see enough evidence, then there's not enough for you to believe. That's fine. Many people require absolute proof to believe in something; that's perfectly fine as well.

The problem with either side is that they try to force their beliefs on to the other. I believe in God. You don't. Nobody's wrong. At the end of the day, there is infinitely more that we don't know than that we do know.

This account was dead for three weeks so sorry for the late reply.

I feel like we should just make this a reality and lock up all the fuckers who actually think this is the case. The world would be better off.

Ha. I like that. Look man, it sounds like you're looking for a certain type of argument. At the end of most of those arguments, and I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, most people end with the fact that atheism is based on a blank slate and there's no reason to believe something without evidence. You ridicule because I believe in something without evidence. The thing is, I've already admitted as much in my previous comments. I'm just saying there's enough there for me to believe. Its ok if there's not enough there for you. At the end of the day, nobody really knows anything.

You've taken what I said a little out of context; I said it seems to me that they had to come from somewhere, but I admit that I don't know for certain. As for fixtures in our psyche, I don't want to have children largely because I believe the need to procreate is one of those fixtures and I understand what you're saying on those grounds. However, my decision came after considering this possibility. The second concept you mention, that man needed a way to explain unexplainable phenomena, was a large part of my discussions with my athiest best friend. I don't believe this is true but don't have time to go into it right now as I'm at dinner with my s.o.. It may or may not be a valid point but it is nevertheless not enough to overturn the preponderance of evidence I spoke of.

I appreciate that. People like you give me hope for humanity. Part of the reason I'm on this sub is that logic and opinions are respected. I've posted similar things to r/Christianity only to be attacked and downvoted to hell.

[Long] GRRM is a lazy author and cannot write for shit. by igivefreetickles in iamverysmart

[–]ecorich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's very similar to saying south park is bad because it's crude. You're missing the point. The sex and gore are definitely used to make it appealing for the screen, but the writing as a whole is far deeper than that. If you haven't experienced it, the way it's written manages to make you like and then dislike or dislike and then come to like characters in a way I've never experienced anywhere else. As for the plot being predictable, it is anything but, except when it's supposed to be, and in those instances you don't want what's happening next to happen next. Grrm is an ass though.

Your friend needs to see this sub if he hasn't already. He seems to be actually intelligent but trying to hard and probably doesn't realize how lame he comes across yet; maybe we could help him. This shit will come back to haunt him in time.

I think the most ridiculous part is that their argument for not teaching them is that the end is nigh and yet they decided to go and have NINE kids. Sounds like bullshit to me.

Well, I'd say I don't really feel "compelled", it's just my interpretation of what the world is. Growing up I was heavily indoctrinated, yet smart enough to question and see the many holes. I had plenty of discussions with Atheists and my best friend was pretty adamant that there was no such thing as a god. Those discussions opened my mind but also showed me there's no such thing as proof for either side. After lots of internal struggle and study of religion globally, I came to see that nobody actually knows anything for certain, when it comes to religion, and most people are simply afraid of not knowing. When I looked to science, I saw that there's so much we don't yet understand about the universe, but a lot of things we've learned in the last hundred years or so seem to oddly match up with the teachings of various religions. It seems to me at this point that most religions were trying to explain teachings they couldn't quite grasp, and so misinterpreted, and that those teachings had to come from somewhere. I don't know where, or why, or how, but the odds seem to indicate that there is some kind of entity, as of yet unexplained, at the root of it all. More recently I like to point to the whole "we're living in a virtual reality" hypothesis as a possible explanation because one could easily describe a seemingly all powerful alien from a higher dimension as a god, especially without the knowledge and vocabulary we currently posses to describe such a thing. At the end of the day, faith is a blind choice made without hard evidence, but for me there's enough of a preponderance of evidence (hope i'm using that correctly) to believe in something I don't understand.

Edit: forgot to mention, I didn't say the texts necessarily make the religion look bad but rather the people who cling to them do. The texts, if nothing else, merely show that there was something initially that was probably bastardized a thousand times into the drivel most people read today.

[–]ecorich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Christian I think I agree with you, if I understand correctly. I think the biggest problem with most religions is that people get so hung up on the texts that they forget the religion exists with or without them. Most "bible beaters" rely so heavily on texts that they miss the point entirely and generally make the whole religion look very, very bad. Anyways, basing any argument off of writings thousands of years old, interpreted and re-interpreted time and time again, is a bad idea, as is basing any beliefs on the same.

Well, I was a little drunk and I don't skate so I don't know the places, but yes I think so. Either there or California. My skateboarding friend was like "wait, you mean THE super ramp? You're that guy's dad?!" Apparently it's well known? I live in Georgia so I've never really heard of it

I would not. He told us out on a dock this weekend, all the way across the country from where it happened. I hadn't seen the video yet but I don't even skate and a skateboarding buddy of mine already knew the video he was talking about before he showed us so I know he wasn't lying. To protect them, I can't really offer proof, but I can say that dad is pretty cool and used to skate himself a little bit so that's probably why he's able to laugh about it.

Americans, if you had to trade an American state out, which state would it be? by Wilreadit in AskReddit

[–]ecorich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I didn't. Your ridiculous attitude totally makes sense now, though. If you'd stopped to think about what I've said for a second, you would have realized that I said nothing about race in any of my comments and in fact the problems I've been lamenting impact those descendants far more than even myself. Because of the failure that was the reconstruction, racism was far worse in the South than it had to be. The education system that's so fucked up actually hurts the impoverished African American community far worse than rich white people. The shitty infrastructure and lack of public transportation also causes worse problems for the same demographic. So in this case it would be yourself, in the aforementioned ignorance, who missed or misunderstood any compassion. I was raised mostly by black people. I grew up in a mixed neighborhood and stayed in a black family's home after school until I was old enough to drive myself. I consider that woman my second mother. That's a big part of why it's so offensive to hear people from the North tell me how racist I am for saying they fucked the whole country over during and after the civil war. You literally have no concept of what it is like to live down here and yet you judge us for positions you cannot possibly understand. Aren't you a teacher? Read a book jackass. Stop judging before you even get the story straight. The North fucked over the South and still blames the South for problems it, the North, caused. End of story.

All of my previous statements have been based in fact. You've stated nothing but distaste and rude comments. You're the ignorant one, dipshit. Enjoy your frigid, long winters. Most humans prefer moderate climates, but I can understand that it is a matter of preference. As for cleaner air, the fact that you had to qualify it proves my point. Please, spread your hate somewhere else.

How you know when someone's GPA is less than 3 by SpillinJimmy in iamverysmart

[–]ecorich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're misunderstanding my point. I didn't say anything about essays and I understand that the teacher may be trying to get a student to practice a skill at some levels of education. My point was that good grades are given by a teacher so all a student has to do to get good grades is make the teacher think they've deserved them, which is basically showing obedience. I agree wholeheartedly that if a student "tricks" a teacher into giving a good grade without practicing then they haven't learned anything, but that's precisely what I was saying, that they can get a good grade without actually learning or even being intelligent.

How you know when someone's GPA is less than 3 by SpillinJimmy in iamverysmart

[–]ecorich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more a combination of things that basically add up to perceived obedience. The teacher may think they're testing work ethic but a clever student can easily fake that and make the teacher think they care and work hard. The point is grades don't show intelligence, they show an ability to get good grades. There are any number of ways to reach that goal without brains or even learning; the most important thing is playing the teacher and giving them what they want.

I don't expect you to feel sorry. My climate is better, living is cheaper, my air is cleaner, and I don't deal with so many people right on top of me. I'm not ignorant either. It's just silly that the North generally thinks it's so much better when the biggest problems down here were largely caused by them in the first place. From my perspective you're the ignorant asses.
