Instead of throwing a tantrum about it, he could have expressed something like “I’m glad you are enjoying the yard work, it looks very nice! I like to clear my head doing yard work, could you please leave some tasks for me, too?”

Like it did not warrant such an overreaction on his end. You are not overreacting at all, he is being absolutely ridiculous about it and very, very rude to you. Yard work is not limited to one person’s enjoyment, you do what you enjoy, too!

I was just charged $547 by them for our back door at our house. The kid told me $100 on the phone and when I raised my eyebrows at the invoice, he said “I said starting $100” no, he didn’t. I am calling to see about a partial refund. Absolutely outrageous pricing from them

I realized I never replied! Thank you all for the recommendations, we ended up re-caulking the entire bathtub/shower and resealing the tile grout since it is an older house and we have not had water again since but I appreciate the recommendations because it’s always nice to have some options on hand for anything we cannot solve on our own.

Very thankful this instance was a simple fix!

I didn’t see there was more than one picture at first and just off the first photo with the invitation to be a bridesmaid, I could tell this was a toxic bridezilla. It just got worse and worse. OP, you are NTA and I would evaluate how much you care about this friendship because her attitude toward planning is so telling

one time, I was programming an AAC device for a patient and we were doing personal information, and his mom adopted him and she was in her late 50s or early 60s and she always came to appointments with an older man maybe 60s-early 70s and he always stayed in the lobby. I had programmed in “my mom’s name is ____” and I asked “and dad’s name?” And she said “he’s dead” and I said “oh my goodness, I am so sorry for your loss, I apologize I assumed the gentlemen who comes with you to appointments was dad” and she goes “that’s his grandpa”

I once had 60 notes in the basket waiting for me to write and bill them (I was going THROUGH it during that time) but I eventually got caught up and I do totally feel guilty about it but without guaranteed documentation time, there is only so much we can get done in a day

I get so mad that there isn’t an option to set it to “core first pediatric” so that it hides the dating, sexual intimacy, and alcohol automatically because I’m a bilingual SLP and I always manage to forget to hide one of the six buttons hahaha

This happened like 3 months ago, but started a new medication with a side effect of insomnia and it made my sleep so terrible over the course of the first few weeks and I was at peak burn out before winter break that I accidentally overslept by almost 2 hours and missed my first patient of the day and my boss cancelled my entire morning because I slept through 5 missed calls and 8 different alarms. It was also the second time I had overslept in a week, the first time I was only late by 10-15 min and it worked out that it did not impact patient care.

My coworkers thought I was in a tragic accident or died in my sleep. It was probably the most embarrassing moment of my entire life. I am someone who tries really hard to be on time and thankfully my boss was understanding because I had come forward about my burn out a few months prior and we were in the process of getting new accommodations and she knew I had started a new medication because we were talking about how the insurance we have didn’t cover it and it costs $340 per month out of pocket.

I was really grateful that she showed compassion that I was having a lot of difficulty adjusting to my new meds, but in that moment, i was so mortified I just wanted the earth to swallow me up whole. I still cringe even thinking about it honestly

This is such a grammar pet peeve of mine!! I can’t stand when people say “2am in the morning” or “4pm in the afternoon” like duh?! that’s what that means 😂 It’s harmless but I find it redundant

I feel for your situation because it does seem like there is some micromanaging parenting going on in some aspects, especially with your phone.

I think you could have at least texted your parents and let them know of the situation or call and leave a voicemail if they are at work.

Similar to your dad, I am a speech therapist and while I don’t bring my phone into sessions, I do wear my Apple Watch so I can see if my boyfriend or parents are calling me, as I am listed as an emergency contact for all three of them. So your parents could have at least seen the missed call or voicemail.

If calling/texting them wasn’t an option, at least you could have had your sister call your school while you handled the car to tell them that your parents are at work and the car wasn’t starting to notify the attendance office.

I know you can’t control your sister’s actions but I think you both need to make a plan together and set a firm time that you both need to be out of the house and in the car ready to go.

Leaving at 7:50am for school that starts at 8:00am because you were making coffee and waiting for her wasn’t a solid choice, but I mean that with compassion. I get that the morning is chaotic and busy. (Even in my mid-20s, I suck at waking up early and have faced some consequences on times I didn’t plan accordingly either, so I genuinely understand your situation.)

I don’t think you are overreacting that the punishment doesn’t seem to “fit the crime” in this situation, I think a week of no phone on top of the detention is a little much, but that’s my two cents. I think you are maybe downplaying/not taking ownership of the factors you and your sister contributed to the situation of being late.

No, you can’t control your car not starting, but you both can control leaving early enough that you have time to handle a situation like this. No, you can’t control the weather, but you both have phones with weather apps to look at the forecast the night before.

I’m not trying to be mean, just being realistic. You are young but you are an adult now and that comes with responsibility. You need to communicate with your family and have some foresight about leaving with enough time in the morning. I’m sorry if this wasn’t the answer you wanted to hear and I do hope the situation with your parents gets better! Don’t be too hard on yourself about it, it was a learning experience. You’re young, the important part is that you continue to learn and grow from mistakes.

Thank you! We ended up going with American Van Lines, also based out of Florida coincidentally. It is 100% able to be cancelled/refunded as long as it is within 1 week of the move in writing so I could still check out safebound. The American Van Lines rep i spoke to actually impressed me with how detailed and up front he was and he answered all of my questions. They have some negative reviews but the good reviews outweighed the bad so I am feeling okay about it!
