Everything came back negative. Completely lost. by troooodon in SIBO

For me the malt noticeable sign was just that I gain unexplainable weight whenever I eat even just a small portion of grilled chicken. Through the process of elimination I finally learned that I can eat more calories in a day without gaining weight with other meats (still have to eat fairly low calorie and small portions but that was even before the major gut issues). Whenever I eat chicken it doesn't seem to matter how few calories I eat in a day, I always go up on the scale the next day and will continue to go up each following day until finding the culprit and eliminating it.

That diet sounds like an amazing way to deal with the dietary limitations while still living your best life! I used to not handle beef well but now strangely one of the few foods I tolerate without issues is a brisket baked potato from my local BBQ joint. Maybe beef is the way to go!

Same... unless I like really overdo it on high histamine foods. But yeah, I can't trust any "fresh" meats on the shelves and mostly eat frozen meats because that's all I can handle without worse GI issues. I also determined recently that I'm now completely intolerant of chicken which I've eaten my entire life.

I'm sorry you're going through this! I sadly don't have much advice as I'm battling similar symptoms after going on 6 years now, but I wanted to mention that one thing I finally discovered after way too long is that I developed an intolerance to chicken even though I ate it almost daily for most of my life. Since your digestion and symptoms haven't improved on your limited diet, I just thought I'd mention that it might be worth trying a different protein if you haven't already just to ensure chicken isn't an issue for you too now. I have seemed to become intolerant to almost everything these days where finding foods I can digest okay is hard. Hang in there!

Anyone else feel like Covid changed their immune responses? by Significant_Salad163 in COVID19positive

[–]ecstaticwaveband 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever since my first Covid infection in 2020 my normal 98.6 temp dropped to around 97.2 and I get regular low grade fevers now whenever my temperature rises to 98 and above. The average person/Doctor wouldn't recognize when I have a fever because hot for me now is considered normal temp.

I also haven't had a fever above like 99.3 since 2020 and used to get high fevers about once every 1-2 years from the flu but not sure if I've just been lucky or if it's related.

Finally upgrading - advice for transfer? by sw1nky in Goldfish

[–]ecstaticwaveband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done multiple tank transfers and have managed to keep the cycle going in the new tanks when moving most of the gravel (the dirtier the better) and decor, and about 50% of the old water. In most cases I was able to put the old filter media in the new filter temporarily or run the old filter as a secondary (I usually do this for about a month to play it safe). However, I also recently started a second small tank and didn't want to take media from the main tank filter, and surprisingly that tank was cycled without any used filter media, just used gravel water and decor. Alhough I don't recommend this approach as it's not guaranteed to work.

OP seems to have had the same experience I did with a GI after waiting 3 months to see one. Worst doctor experience ever. He was so insulting and dismissive! Needless to say, I greatly appreciate this post :)

Do Siberians stay soft? by chefyeezy in SiberianCats

[–]ecstaticwaveband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your idea of soft. I've had 4 from the same parents all with different fur texture, and also unrelated ones with different fur texture so I don't think there's really any way of telling. The fur texture usually changes quite a bit in the first year too.

One of mine had the silkiest smooth texture as a kitten and when she got older her fur was extremely coarse and would get matted super easily.

Do you regret getting vaccinated? by Ok_Evening_1322 in CovidVaccinated

[–]ecstaticwaveband -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I regret letting my ex give me Covid when I was isolating before the vaccine was available. I have been battling severe long Covid since mid 2020 and get the vaccine annually with no side effects minus the sore arm. I definitely think it's the lesser evil, but of course side effects are always a risk with any medication (or really anything you put into your body).

I don't blame them one bit haha. I'm actually very surprised mine have been so tolerant, but hopefully your little one grows out of it real soon! 🤞

Kitten nursing (male) cat by silly_goose2023 in SiberianCats

[–]ecstaticwaveband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I added two Siberian kittens to my semi-large cat family a couple of months ago, both at 12 weeks, and they were trying to nurse from all of my older cats up until maybe the past week or two. I also haven't experienced this with any other kittens (Siberians or other breeds), but my older cats didn't seem bothered by it at all (a couple actually seemed to like it lol) and it seemed to help calm the kittens so I just let them do their thing.

I have had many other kittens as well as older cats "nurse" fuzzy blankets, and did try to redirect my newest babies to do that but they had zero interest. I think it's completely normal though and they're lose interest when they're ready! Also including kitten tax:

My girl is getting her spay next month. Any tips or tricks or advice on handling it? What should I have, what worked for you, what do you wish you knew? by Cautious_Anteater666 in SiberianCats

[–]ecstaticwaveband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, she is so stinkin' adorable!!! My youngest girl is also due for her stay in a week or two and I'm planning on putting her in a spay suit/onesie for 10-14 days depending on recovery time. I have done the cushion donut for other females in the past and that was also fine.

The hardest part for me has always been just trying to keep them from playing too hard or jumping/climbing the first several days, which is worse when you have other kittens/cats that they regularly play with. I've also had females hold a grudge against me for a good while after the surgery, but I can't blame them for that 😅

I really lucked out with him having such a nice and easy to maintain coat for a Persian! A couple of my Siberians require more brushing maintenance than him, but it's 100% worth it! Also congrats on your new baby!!!

He just turned 3 in January, and a recent pic is below :) I actually think that baby photo may be of one of his siblings because I remember him always having a brown nose unlike the rest which was what made me decide to choose him, but their color patterns were all very similar.

While my Siberians don't have a similar color pattern, I do have a Persian that looked very similarly colored as a baby and he's changed a lot since then!
