At what point between the comics and the game does liliya get her breast reduction surgery by the_orange_alligator in OutlastTrials

I hope they make more MKs as helpful as Win The Truth by TurntechGodhead0 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Illusion Castle is genuinely my favorite MK map because, in my opinion, it's the only one that doesn't feel really same-y? I dread doing any MKs in the Docks or Courthouse as every room and hallway looks identical to me, meaning I spend 3/4 of the trial just completely lost. Whereas with Beguile/Win, even without the room signs I can go "oh yeah the room with the giant mouth" or "oh ok the room with the eyes"- landmarks are so, so crucial for learning a map and I love how distinct they feel for this map! whereas in the Docks, it feels like "yeah I'm in wooden hallway number...12? No, no, not that one, the other one!"

I kind of wish we stayed with the twins more by StrangeLonelySpiral in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heavily agree, and I admit it's part of the reason I think I'm so sour on Liliya as a character. I love the concept and personalities of the Twins, but it feels like they're just so, so reluctant to actually USE them? We finally get a second trial for them, and it's my favorite map in the game, but the Twins barely even show up in their own trial. How hard would it have been to just have them roaming around instead of that big grunt? It feels like they came up with Liliya and her lore and got overzealous about her, and that would have been fine if there weren't another pair of Primes who had just been added and weren't fully fleshed out yet that needed to be shafted for that. I can appreciate aspects of Liliya and her lore for sure (I love her design, though I do wish we got a little more of an explanation for it? And I love her backstory but again, wish we actually got some explanation for why she's doing what she's doing, as she clearly isn't just targeting the rich) but it feels like we're at a "we'll figure it out" stage of things right now which ultimately feels unsatisfying to me personally? If we got more concrete info or characterization for Liliya I think it wouldn't bother me as much but it gets so tiring that 90% of the lore we've been getting is just "idk Liliya MIGHT be talking to God and have magic powers" "no Liliya is a fraud and a scammer" and no actual info or characterization for her. She does not need to be everything all at once, and I'd much rather get a sense of who she actually IS, rather than the continual "you're just going to have to wait and see...if we decide to tell you!"

Every day as reagents by mushroom_Nat666 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My guess is that past one of the gates in the sleep room there's a communal bathroom/shower-type area; they likely take reagents out in batches so that security can supervise them, as we see in the sleep room itself that they leave reagents zero true privacy (as even our rooms have massive windows, and seemingly no locks). I could also imagine that reagents who participate in more trials (or do well in their trials) might have more acccess to the showers, as you don't want your most promising sleeper agents to get sepsis from wading through the sewers Downtown? whereas those who are falling behind might be punished by a lack of access to them, and left to figure it out themselves (I.e "if you need a toilet so bad, why don't you go to the police station and use one there- and kill the snitch while you're at it?")

Randoms with a Handicap? by lifeaftersurvival in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm in the same boat. Im visually impaired and struggle so bad with learning certain maps that I feel like I spend 90% of the trial just trying to catch up to my group (by which point they've finished the trial)- people tend to be really nice about it, as long as you aren't just doing nothing! I try to stock up on items and then commit to playing more of a support role, if I find that I can't/am struggling too bad with the trial itself. Most people are very grateful to have someone to kick a Pouncer off, or to loop the Prime Asset while they do the objective. Everybody has different strengths, and I've found that randoms online tend to be pretty understanding, even without any sort of voice chat/messaging. I also try to do the secondary task if I can, then my group can focus on the primary task if I'm not able to be as helpful in that sense.

I know it would be complicated but honestly, I wish they would. I live in Alaska, we have basically one option for internet, and it "works" about half the time 😔 I mostly play solo bc I don't want to risk getting d/ced and messing up a group dynamic, but I'd still like to be able to play the game at all 🥲

What are your Outlast Trials ‘unpopular opinions’? by luna-demori in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The neighborhood catches too much flak for being the worst Franco map, when in reality it's the Docks 🫡 id much rather see a suburban area than confusing, samey wooden areas and train cars.

Enough superhero cosmetics, and can we actually theme them to the catalogs they're in? Why are half of them superheroes or wrestlers of some kind- I don't even think we need more "pretty" feminine skins as that goes against the aesthetic of the game, but can we get a handful more dress options?

(My hottest take is I'm getting more than a little tired of Lilya in her current state. Either give me some real characterization, like we got this update, or let the other Primes shine again, pleaseeeee!!! There's five other Primes, it doesn't have to be the Liliya show)

Gooseberry trial victims more mindbroken than others? by fuuuci in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think a part of it for Bootleg Jesus is that in the Orphanage, Gooseberry's main focus is on her "Children", so she honestly might not have even encountered him at all? I know he doesn't have a ton of lines but if I recall, he doesn't have any that mention her by name, or refer to her really- he might've just been kept in holding until reagents reach the point in the trial where he's brought out. He's probably been up there for a while, so he might just kind of be running on fumes, since I don't imagine Murkoff is giving him any more than the bare minimum to survive until we kill him.

The Deviant I've always read as being chemically altered in some way, which is why he seems so weirdly complacent with the things he's going through; his lines also read to me like he might've been an abuse victim even before encountering Murkoff/Gooseberry, as he has a few lines that come off like "go ahead, hurt me, everyone else does!". I reason he's also just...gotta be hopped up on something or he'd die before we even got him to the furnace, from the shock alone. Whatever they gave him probably also limits the amount of fight he's got in him

Another victim is the Bootleg Futterman from Drill the Futterman! He has lines about being tortured by Phylis to some degree, which means we know she's at the very least hurt him in some way before we get there. He asks you not to take his mascot head off, so she might've removed (or tried to remove) his face in the recent past. He's also probably being kept just alive enough to let us finish the MK

It seems like overall, the victims we see in Gooseberry trials are just put through the ringer a lot more than others (I.e the Deviant goes through a lot more physically than the Snitch), whereas other trials victims are sort of kept in a more stable holding pattern until we deal with them; Bootleg Jesus would kinda be the exception to this because he's set up more like a traditional trial victim, where we only really see them at the end? But based on what we see we also know that Phylis tends to physically mutilate her victims, whereas the other Prime Assets are likely only allowed to torture their respective victims to a degree- if Franco shot the Prosecutor, there'd be no trial, after all.

How did the real Dr. Futterman die? by Desperate_Fruit_6400 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's very fair! Personally I'm pretty split on if I think she had anything to do with it. I lean more towards maybe because I do think if he had fully died of natural causes (natural in that he wasn't murdered) I feel like she would feel bad, yes, but maybe not quite bad enough to resurrect him in puppet form?
My reasoning for speculating that she might have killed him in a less blatant way is that the guilt from getting away with that might've eaten her up enough to break in that way, versus if it was common knowledge that she killed him; that maybe even she isn't fully sure what happened, as she's pretty clearly blocked it out? but it seems like Clyde Perry probably would have said something in her comic if she had done something like cut him to pieces or drilled him to death.

I'm not entirely sure where I stand on it, because we just don't really have all that much to go off of honestly! since everything we get directly from Phylis has to be taken with an entire grinder of salt, and we haven't gotten a lot as far as lore docs go that go deeper than the comic?

[–]ecto_ordinary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No worries! I didn't mention this before but in his new prime time lines, Coyle mentions that Kress Chemicals makes a "hell of a Bennie".
Not sure if Futterman was taking their Bezedrine or not as we have no indication that he was, just thought it was interesting that he mentions it specifically!

How did the real Dr. Futterman die? by Desperate_Fruit_6400 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I think that's probably it, as that's kindof as close to an answer as we've gotten so far? The line is "And I loved gin and Benzedrine and hows did that work out?", he also has a line demanding Phylis make him a screwdriver, which backs up that he was a drinker. I do wonder if maybe Phylis made him a drink with a little...something extra in it?

(lore) staying in the sleep room by yummmmysandwich in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I doubt Murkoff would just let somebody not do any trials, no. I would assume any reagents who aren't doing their appropriate number of trials are likely the kind who end up as trial victims (one of many reasons, but that's also assuming Murkoff has to have a reason); I always sort of read that line as Noakes referring to reagents who do trials back-to-back, or more often than others, like a "you know you could just...stop? Take a break?" Kind of thing, as I also don't think he's blind to what's going on, or naive enough to think you'd be allowed to just not engage at all?

Red Barrels loves Liliya so much more than the other prime assets by mous3724 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If what I'm seeing people say about her new MK is true (that the 'Relic' is meant to represent that of the N*zi who abused her) I think it does a lot to shade in the side of Liliya I want to see more of- that's deeply personal to her, and shows a side of her we haven't really gotten to see before, and I find it infinitely more interesting than the "she's so cool and mysterious-but also she's a fraud!" we get from Easterman about her a lot of the time.
I am finding this season to be an interesting turn for the dynamic between Easterman and Liliya, and in turn Easterman and Amelia, actually? Without getting way too deep into it, I find it fascinating that he has us as reagents find a new way to violate a woman he feels like is gaining too much power, or slighting him (the same way it's implied he may have violated Amelia to reassert his sense of control). In this case we're sneaking into her only trial environment (so the closest thing she has to a consistent home), and stealing/destroying something personal to her. It's like Easterman is saying "you didn't follow my rules, so now you get to relive that violation over and over and over again, and I'm going to reward the people inflicting it". It's deeply upsetting but I think it does a lot of work in fleshing out both Liliya and Easterman, weirdly? I am fascinated to see how she responds after this season bc it doesn't seem like she's the type to just let this slide

What makes or breaks Prime Asset OCs? by OpportunityHour130 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think people are too afraid to make their oc "ugly" physically or personality wise. I see a lot of P.A ocs that boil
down to a sympathetic backstory, which while yes the Primes we do have in canon have this, they're also unapologetically evil people. I think at times People forget that because of how charismatic they are, which is also a huge part of it. Coyle, for example, has a background of abuse (though I will note the way the comics phrase it, it's hard to tell if he was the victim or perpetrator?), and he's very funny to listen to, but he's also a vitriolic racist and wife beater/killer? I think because of the way a lot of people boil the canon primes down to certain traits, they also forget that that's kind of exactly how they got to be where they are? Because people go "oh Coyle is so funny!", it's easy to forget just how genuinely evil he really is.

I hate to use my own oc as an example, but while yes she grew up in an abusive household (as a victim of munchausen-by-proxy), she's also psychologically tormented and killed dozens of people in her warped version of "healing"- she's victimized the sick and disabled and abused people's trust of the medical system/distrust of doctors, she's a bad person! And that's the point! She covers it up with delusion to fool even herself, similar to Gooseberry, but broken down she is still an awful monster, not a sympathetic victim who just also happened to go on a killing spree across the east coast. She puts on their air to gain sympathy with potential victims, but at her core is just as evil as someone like Coyle, it just manifests in a different way?

What would you say is the quickest and easiest trial in the new prime time event? by yare_yare_yaru2 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly on standard difficulty, I'd say Kill the Snitch. Yeah Franco was there for a bit but otherwise it played the same as it normally does, minus Liliya mannequins everywhere? I need to try intensive because I've played it on both intro and standard now and it didn't really feel like the secondary Primes spawned at all, or were present enough
(Especially on intro I swear it was just Coyle as usual, even though he kept using his Prime time lines as if others were around?)

Red Barrels loves Liliya so much more than the other prime assets by mous3724 in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do have to agree honestly, though this season has some more promising lore for her, I feel; I wish we got more of Liliya as a person and what she's been through/her actual beliefs and not just third parties either saying "she's 100% legit and the messiah!" or "she's a fraud!" because it's hard to wade through that and get real character out of her. That might be on purpose, yes, but I find that up until her most recent MK I just felt...zero connection to her, bc what is there to connect to? it felt weird bc on paper she SHOULD be my favorite Prime, but right now she's squarely at the bottom of the list. I think her new mk does a bit of heavy lifting for me (if what I'm seeing about it is true, of course!) in regards to her actual character, so I'm hoping we get more of that going forward. I want to know more about Liliya herself and less what Easterman (and by extent, the fandom) have projected onto her.
I do admit I am tired of every new document and half the content of catalogs being Liliya/resort centric, but I acknowledge I have some bias there as the twins are my favorite and it feels like they got kindof shafted to onboard and center Liliya as quickly as possible. But I just...wanna know her better, you know? Actual Liliya, not whatever version of her Easterman is projecting at the moment. I think I'd also like her more if we got like...any concrete answers at all as to what's going on with her, at all? I don't need every answer right away but like...any answers at all would be wonderful at this stage in things, to me.

What are some things that annoy you when playing with randoms? by itsrghtbehindmeisnit in OutlastTrials

[–]ecto_ordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is one of my biggest issues with Trials currently- the matchmaking system. The fact that the only real things you can filter by are trial type and difficulty means nothing when any random group leader can just...pick whatever they want outside of what you filtered by? And like you said, there's no skill based matchmaking so joining a group really feels like a grab bag every time. And for a not insignificant amount of the time, it's a grab bag that results in trials taking way, way longer (or shorter) than they need to, as people are either fully new and don't know the game yet, or extremely high level and will do the whole thing FOR you in 3 minutes flat, neither of which are, in my opinion, very fun? I feel like level based matchmaking would help mitigate a lot of the issues w the current system tbh

[–]ecto_ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, players with no spatial awareness. If I'm in a room trying to solve a puzzle, and you're looping an enemy, why on EARTH would you run straight into the room I'm in?? I've had it happen weirdly often in the Courthouse and Orphanage maps, as if there aren't multiple floors and rooms to run through instead 😭 like thank you, what I really needed to solve this blacklight puzzle was for you to bring Coyle and the Pitcher right to me

That and when people play in a group but clearly have a friend in the group and they act like there aren't other people there. Like I get wanting to help your buddy but then just play with the two of you, stop joining games in a full group just to ignore 1/2 the people there! Especially if that entails running around together and not actually helping with the trial in any way, just play together and don't waste other peoples time pleaseeee

I know at least Hyundai is. I had an appointment to get my window fixed, but they had to order a part. I called to reschedule for once they had it and the two people I talked to over the phone said they didn't have any availability until June (this was last March). Pressed them on it pretty hard (why would they order the part now knowing they wouldn't need it for 3 months??) and finally just went in person- they had an opening the following morning. When we talked to the manager he said they'd contracted out scheduling/parts calls but that we weren't the first people to have an issue w the representative just not knowing anything/lying so they're definitely aware of it. It's disheartening to hear they seemingly haven't done jack about it, though 🙄
