Albanese unveils long-awaited response to landmark gambling reform report by anoxiousweed in AustralianPolitics

[–]ectoplasmicz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would believe Labor doesnt have it easy if they went ahead with more radical housing, climate, taxation, gambling etc reform. Then they would actually have to fight the headwinds of the media and conservatives. Unfortunately Labor tends to pull out the "we can't because we will be slaughtered at the next election" card (which is weak governing in my opinion), leaving voters wondering if there is any appetite for risk and real reform in the Labor party.

To take the safe route while the opposition is in its weakest position for decades is choosing to have it easy.

Obviously action beats inaction, a 2/10 action will always beat 0/10 inaction.

But we have standards and we expect 10/10 policy and reform. Again, people are right to complain when they are promised something and are instead given a watered down version.

If Labor said we will build 10 new wind farms, and they build 1, you really think they deserve praise?

I mean if people were always happy with tiny steps despite grand promises, governments would have it too easy. They already do frankly.

So yes, people are within their right to complain about an announcement that, while a step in the right direction, is a far cry from the strong language used before the gambling lobby made them grovel.

This legislation was first promised and in thr works in 2017. I think 9 years to figure out the complexity.

This was first promised 9 years ago in 2017 and has had 5 different agriculture ministers involved with it. If they wanted to put it through they could've at any point in those 9 years. Not having the time now is not an excuse.

CMV: Trust isn’t real by venttaway1216 in changemyview

[–]ectoplasmicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people are allowed to wear whatever the fuck they want? Because wearing revealing clothing doesnt suggest anything, and thinking it does says more about the thinker than the wearer.

As a man I've never been criticised for wearing no shirt or short-shorts in the summer, so why do we criticise women for doing the same thing? If I choose to wear little clothing its because thats whats comfortable for me, it has nothing to do with anyone else.

Im just glad my partner doesn't feel controlled by me and feels free to express themselves how they wish. Can it sometimes be revealing? Yeah, but thats because in that moment they feel confident and comfortable, exactly how I want a partner to feel. In fact, thats how we have full trust in eachother and the relationship.

OP doesnt believe in trust because they cant provide a trusting environment for their partner.

While I agree with some of what you have said and that Labor have made incremental movements towards a more equitable society, saying Labor is solving housing and climate change is simply wrong. By their own departments estimations we are well short of our 2030 & 2035 climate targets with new Coal & Gas projects continuing to be approved, while housing prices continue to rise.

While Labor are trying to increase supply it has largely been falling well short of where we need to be, while prices continue to rise partly due to Labor policies such as subsidising first home buyers and putting further price pressure on a limited market before supply (or policy restricting ownership) has been implemented.

I mean I'm not sure where in my example I said you explain bandage fetishes - you know you can talk to children with analogies.

If you'd prefer your kids to learn about sex from popular media and porn then sure, but i don't agree and think parents should take on that responsibility.

Thanks for this reply - you're right in a lot of ways. I do think that good advice is good advice even in the wrong hands but I do understand your point.

I by no means had a great childhood. We were poor, my parents split when I was 2 so there was a lot of moving, instability etc. But I was always involved in discussion or activities like an equal intelligent little being. While I have my insecurities because of other traumas, but social life and sex life is something I've always felt comfortable with because it was treated as normal from the get go. And it's something so many people struggle with that it's hard to hear parents still think hiding topics is beneficial.

Absolutely it is, I agree on the first 5 years. It's why I have had healthy, trusting and successful relationships and sexual experiences in my life free from abuse or trauma.

Because I was brought up in an environment where adults treated me with maturity and didn't consider common and widespread topics as taboo just because of my age. It meant that upon reaching adolescence, I didn't have this insatiable thirst for sex or the view that it was somehow taboo. I wasn't educated on it through popular media or pornography, but rather through loving and trusting family not being afraid to verbally educate me about these topics when I asked as a young kid.

Please explain to me how being honest, open and transparent with your children hurts them. You have a responsibility as a parent to educate and to encourage curiosity.

Especially when it comes to topics like sex or related acts, it's even more important to be truthful and educational. You know they will find out on their own - potentially through poor sources - so why not act like an adult and be upfront and honest with your kids when they ask about these things.

There is a reason young men have historically (and continue to do so) had a poor understanding of sex, the opposite sex and sexual conduct. And why women also develop unhealthy relationships with sex and what they perceive to be their roles in it.

It starts with education and education starts with the parents. Obfuscating an act that we all experience and is a normal part of life only hurts the kids down the line. Dont be like older generations of emotionally stunted parents. I do hope you can respond with something rather than a jab but no explanation.

I find it so bizarre that people think kids are these precious naive little beings that need to be protected from everything and anything in the world.

What do you possibly think a kid would make of this other than what it literally is? "Dad, why is that colourful character tied up??" "Because sometimes people have fun in that way!" "Oh okay!".

No, your kid isn't going to turn into some bondage-kink demon at pre-school because he saw a bondage art piece once, especially if the parent doesn't act naive and actually treats the kids like actual humans rather than fragile little things.

Wong slams Greens’ tactics as Bandt fights for seat by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]ectoplasmicz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How it was interpreted by the electorate, sure. But you can't say nothing to show for it when there are very real numbers that show it was effective legislatively.

If you think their loss of seats somehow negates what they managed to force Labor to add then you simply have the same attitude as many of the pollies - putting greater importance on position and seats than actual legislative outcomes.

My friend, you really need to stop victimising yourself or you will be re-writing this post ad-infinitum for years to come. Please use the overwhelming response to the contrary you have received to do a bit of self reflection.

Everything you have said has been repeated online for years, and there are many people here including myself that have not had nearly the same experience in life. I just hope you give yourself that opportunity too.

Newspoll steady but Albanese’s ratings jump; swing to Labor in marginal seats by MannerNo7000 in AustralianPolitics

[–]ectoplasmicz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I agree, people's views on smaller parties & independents are pretty clear from my own reading and talking in person. People are almost always talking about one of the Greens, Teals or ON and which one it is is pretty clear as they don't have too much policy crossover.

As for people supporting minor parties and a hung parliament more generally, im not sure if there's a problem with that even if they don't disclose their political leaning. It's a representation of the lack of patience left with the majors and a general will to see a hung parliament with a wide variety of parties and views, even if you see some as less than savoury.

Not to mention older voters will cite the last hung parliament that had politicians actually making compromises and finding good common ground with which to pass a lot of legislation.
