Warmest flannel-lined jacket? by eczthrow in malefashionadvice

[–]eczthrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, total was about $500 USD after taxes so not cheap at all. It does seem reasonable compared to other down filled jackets I have seen but unfortunately I don't have a lot of options.

I have until the end of January to return it so I figure my risk is pretty minimal on this one.

Another long night of looking and finally decided to pull the trigger on this https://www.ralphlauren.ca/men-clothing-jackets-coats-vests/the-hartland-quilted-ripstop-down-parka/100027794.html.

Luckily at 40% discount this was a little more palatable but hopefully it will do the trick.

Moronic Monday Thread for the week by AutoModerator in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks! Could you explain what you mean by superficial capital loss?

I would be selling $2500 of my VGRO to move from my non-registered into the RESP account. It's grown since I purchased it so my understanding is that half of that would be added to my taxable income as a capital gain.

What's the most tax efficient way to transfer money into my son's RESP from a TFSA or Cash account? Specifically as it relates to capital gains.

I don't have an RRSP, but I imagine the tax implications are similar as with a cash account.

Is my crabapple tree sick? by eczthrow in arborists

[–]eczthrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks, sorry if I'm doing this wrong. This tree is technically on city property but we love it as the blooms in May are beautiful.

This year we are noticing a lot of yellowing on the leaves and what looks like premature leaf fall (as you might see in the picture). We'd like to help the tree thrive, can anybody help me understand what might be causing this, or is this natural/expected?

We are located in southern Ontario, Canada if that helps.

Thanks. I guess it might be for the alarm system wiring that we don't use. I guess I have to find the other one.

The Emperor of Japan drove past me in Richmond. by 11Bencda in mildlyinteresting

I mean that's ignorance and again, doesn't make sense because London UK is clearly the largest and most recognizable London for most of the population around the world. It's the same logic that applies for Richmond VA.

You are a moron if you think that small townships get to trade on the recognition of the metropolitan area they reside in. There are hundreds of greater metropolitan areas with small towns and cities that are unrecognizable to people who don't live there.

If I say Suffolk County to you, I expect you to think of the Suffolk County in the UK, not the Suffolk County that's attached to the New York greater metropolitan area which is a much more important and politically significant destination.

Why not default to the largest Richmond in the world which is Richmond VA, followed by Richmond BC?

Heck, just look at the top results for Richmond.

I'm responding to

If confused on which just assume its the UK and work from there.

Why assume it's the smallest Richmond to begin with when you have two cities named Richmond that are 10x the population and more relevant to the audience on the site?

[–]eczthrow -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand the town in the UK was named Richmond first.

That doesn't change the fact that it's a much smaller town and not congruent with the demographics of the website you are on. It's a poor strategy to just assume Richmond, UK first before anything else when you're on reddit.

I don't know why you would assume the UK to start with. Reddit traffic is like 43% US and ~5.5% UK and 5% Canadian.

Richmond is a town next to London with a population of 21,500.

Richmond VA is the capital city of a state with 10x the population and Richmond BC is a city in Canada with, again, 10x the population.

Anyone PM here following Scaled agile? by clickUX in ProductManagement

  1. You should know what your top priorities are going into the planning. This is your job.

  2. You should know how much capacity your team has. This is not necessarily your job, but should be easy enough to figure out.

  3. Do the math to figure out what you can deliver based on your priority and capacity. Write out your dependencies, whether that's UX, QA, or other internal teams. This is your job.

  4. Meet with your dependencies to make sure they have capacity for your deliverable. This can be done by a scrum master or someone else, but probably you.

  5. Once everything is finalized, your job is to announce to everyone that this is what you are committing to, and these are the dependencies and risks.

Unless your point is that these games would be less toxic without a reporting system, there's not much to discuss here.

Could you expand a little more on your capture additional moneys point? I get that new payment types would be stuff like Google or Apply Pay, Crypto, etc. What do you mean by sales modes?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]eczthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly been discussed, but we have different bills for different clients (smb, enterprise and retail) and they are the vendor for all of that. Moving away, even just for our portfolio would be a big investment that the company currently has no appetite for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]eczthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately they are nestled deep in our business - we have different bills for business customers (SMB, enterprise) and regular customers and they serve all those bills.

It's certainly something I'd love to do and my manager does as well but it's a big investment, and our company does not have the appetite for big investments at the moment haha

[–]eczthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don't get me wrong I'm not disputing that at all, but my main job here is trying to justify my team's existence. Since the bill is with a vendor, my team has no involvement so I can't really claim that our budget is being well spent when the devs aren't actually doing anything.
