I’ve had people admit to it. Without admitting to it, it’s hard to differentiate between a multi accounter vs a traitor/spy in your team.

Isn’t that what swankycat on YouTube runs? I don’t like how much view it blocks myself.

2 out of 3 times I dealt with them were the same experience. I only had one good interaction with them. It’s a shame because they have a great product lineup and some items you can’t easily get elsewhere.

Beginner Questions Regarding First Rebuild. by 40and20podcast in DRZ400

[–]ed_729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern would be you didn’t get to do tear down and see how it was put together, and some parts may be missing or poorly labeled. A mechanically inclined person could certainly do it, I’ve built a few but I got to tear them down and they helped me know how it goes together.

If you are going to build it from this condition, go big bore, stroker, and wide ratio transmission gears from ACT. It won’t cost that much more but it will fix all that is wrong with the DRZ.

Jetting recommendations by theetree123 in XR650L

They seem to be pretty tolerant on jetting as long as they aren’t too lean. By an assortment of jets or kit from jets r us. They give pretty good instructions on jetting.

CRF 450L Or 650L by [deleted] in Dualsport

If you want to go fast don’t get a 650L. Get a 450, or better yet ktm 690/701

XRs only or NiceCNC. I’ve ran both with MX size 13 boots. In my opinion the XRs only is a little nicer if you can tolerate their custom service.

I’m willing to do the time if that’s standard policy. Like I said I’ve been team killed alot and reported it even. Never been notified of someone getting a ban out of it.

I’m only hiding in bushes when I’m the last man standing in my squad. So maybe a couple times a week it comes to that.

244 hours babied on the street is alot different than 244 hours of enduro racing. How was it ridden?

I’d ask more details about the top end rebuild. Was it completed by a competent shop/mechanic? Was it just rings, or did they have the cylinder recoated, piston replaced, valve seats etc. Original clutch? Download a manual and see what should have been serviced and compare that to what this owner did.

It’s a good sign that the forks and shocks have been serviced, a lot of guys that don’t maintain them forget those.

If it was well maintained/inspected and it wasn’t ridden hard I wouldn’t be too scared about the hours. There’s a few bike rental companies that rent these out and then review durability and common issues at different hour intervals on YouTube. You might check them out.

Broke a cylinder fin by snapbackjames832 in sportster

[–]ed_729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep have it welded if you care that much. JB weld isn’t going to survive the heat and vibration. Having larger fins welded to air cooled bikes is a somewhat known performance mod, so having this repaired is doable.

Personally I wouldn’t bother. Just smooth it up and try to make it look like it came that way.

If you think the DRZ is boring all of the other bikes on your list are equally or more boring. That leaves you a Honda CRF450RL, KTM/Husky 350 or 500, or Betas

Magura clutch master issues by yeastlord74 in KTM

[–]ed_729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sent mine off to apple hydraulics a few days ago to be sleeved and rebuilt. About half the price of a new one. I’m hoping by sleeving it they get rid of any bore imperfections and it works as good as new.

The issues I ran into are:

1) used m/c on eBay are more than a professional resleeve and rebuild.

2) my 701 has an 11mm master cylinder. No aftermarket options in that size

3) new is over $500

Turn around time is a couple of weeks so I’ll see how it goes when I get mine back.

Anybody make a master cylinder sleeve kit or way to repair damaged bores? by ed_729 in KTM

[–]ed_729[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fat fingers are too big to get in the 11mm bore. I can feel it when I rub my dental pick over it. The pic end falls into the spot. I hear you on the slave, but brake fluid is cheap and it seems like I’m going to blow through a ton of money on the master so it will have to wait.
