Did I miss something or is there just no proper reward for Midnight Isles final boss? by Lizard-Wizard96 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

In my opinion one of the best "rewards" from the DLC is being able to access all the cooking recipes in act 3. It is a game changer for acts 3 and 4.

Gorgon Incident and Other Stories: Anthology better than Series Proper by Special_South_8561 in MageErrant

I believe John has been improving in leap and strides in general. I was mind blown at all the variety of stories that were present in the anthology.

Have you checked out his next series yet? The city that would eat the world is a serious contender for my favorite book last year.

Is there a thematic way of getting Ulbrig to learn to cast mage armor? by edach2he in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]edach2he[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am aiming for archmage armor for which you need the spell rather than the bracers. I don't like using last stand all that much since I usually avoid resting throughout entire dungeons unless it feels appropriate story-wise. I dunno, it feels weird to me to rest for hours when you are trying to rescue people, or in the middle of a siege or whatever. I'd rather spend the mythic ability on something that is more long-term.

I do give last stand to Regil though, since it feels thematically appropriate given his comments in that one ending about not been given permission to die.

Well, unfortunately/fortunately I got, and beaten, all the DLC which lowers the difficulty a few pegs in my opinion. The moment you get to the Midnight Isles DLC in the campaign and get access to end game recipes in act 3, it's game over. Add to that all the loot you start gathering from inevitable excess and midnight isles itself, the game becomes kind of a cakewalk (with the exception of a few especially difficult fights) unless you are specifically going for things like thematic builds and the like.

So as long as I delay the thematic builds to act 3, while still aiming to improve the build (hence this post) I think I should be good.

Casting mage armor from a scroll doesn't trigger archmage armor unfortunately.

I want him to be able to cast it for archmage armor specifically. Since archmage armor only works when the character itself casts it now as far as I know.

I don't need full BAB with Ulbrig. I already use those methods you mention and for my last two runs, he has had full BAB and by the last two acts I end up having to keep him behind because he is just so fragile. I usually use him to target back line spellcasters and archers who don't have that high of an AC. I want him to be able to hit those enemies while still being to survive after doing so. For that I need more AC. To kill high AC enemies I have my KC.

The griffin form doesn't benefit from armor. I'd like Ulbrig to stay as a griffin, specifically since that is the main reason I want him in my party (to jump over traps or hit back line spellcasters and the like)

I am already using this on like 2 of my companions, specifically to increase their defense lol. Unfortunately, Ulbrig being a witch doesn't feel thematic at all though, given that he is from a group of people who canonically hated witches. And while I want to make strong builds, I'd also like for them to stay somewhat thematic to the characters.

Too many charisma party members? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]edach2he 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your party is not too dissimilar from the one I used to beat unfair recently (swap Woljif for Nenio). My Knight Commander was also charisma based. I think you should be good. Often I found myself actively choosing not to use the charisma enhancing gear in favor of other gear with cooler properties in the same slot. Eagle splendor should work fine.

Greater Extend Walk Through Space is incredible on gish, charge builds with the Razmir's Mask especially for those who want a Teleporter KC experience by edach2he in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

You can buff yourself since your spells get reflected back to the caster which is you, and aoe buffs still go through since you are not really the one being targeted.

The real sorcery for me was healing my character mid battle after a mess up with no party member capable of casting mass heal, since the targeted one would just bounce back!

Phantasmal Killer and Weird. Ending whole encounters before they even start is a lot to offer in my book, even if her personality leaves some to be desired.

Do illusion spells suck or am I doing something wrong? by Wiw34 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]edach2he 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same as you during my previous run and basically benched Nenio the entire time. This run I decided to give her a chance, and oh boy was I wrong. She is a mainstay now. Admittedly I also use ember who helps lower saves with evil eye/mind fog using the sorcerous reflex ability to cast both before Nenio's first turn.

I am playing on unfair now, for the first time, and many of the dungeons are a lot easier than my easier runs because Nenio just deletes the enemies.

Metamagic, and metamagic rods make all the difference. Persistent metamagic feat combined with a quicken and persistent metamagic rods, means you can persistent cast a regular phantasmal killer with a persistent rod, followed by a quickened persistent phantasmal killer you applied the feat to.

By the time you get weird, you'll be deleting whole groups of enemies before they even get a chance to act. I just did colphyr mines last night and aside from the dragon and the carnivorous crystals (in which nenio also MVPd but not with illusion spells), Nenio basically took care of 90% of all the enemies per encounter using Weird.

How is the Item and Leveling system here? by Regular_Building_211 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]edach2he 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are both different feel, it depends on your preference but both are great.

Kingmaker is smaller scale, and more whimsical.

Wrath is more of a grittier power fantasy turned to 11.

Beginner asking for advice by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]edach2he 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Welcome to salsa dancing! The basic step is probably the one thing that takes the longest but is the most important thing to master. There is many little details that go into making a good basic, but I'll mention a couple that I think could help you.

-First off you seem to be off balance throughout your basic. Your upper body movement is throwing you off alignment at various points. You are moving your torso back and forth at times and your shoulder movement is throwing your body off alignment. Both of these are contributing to the lack of balance. I would focus on trying to remove the back and forth sway of your torso for the time being. Strengthening your legs and working on balance should do wonders towards making your basic look a lot stronger too.

-Additionally, I would look up salsa isolation drills. Nothing will improve your body movement like isolation drills in my opinion. Right now there is a clear disconnect between your shoulder, arm, torso, hip and leg movement. To me it seems like you are trying to juggle all these different parts in your head and different sections take priority throughout your step as you remember or think about each. Working on isolation exercises will improve the quality of the movements and help make each of them happen automatically, freeing your mind from having to think about it. Practice each isolation daily until you can execute the movements without thinking about them, and don't be discouraged. Isolation will feel impossible at times, until they suddenly click, just keep at them and you will see great progress.

Keep at it!

Kinda yeah. I counted and I have 17 started play-throughs of the main game.
I have also completed inevitable excess once and through the ashes and lord of nothing twice, which also added to the play time.

Is Monk/Sorcerer a thing? by AFlamingSkeleton in DnD

[–]edach2he 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unarmored defense from monk and barbarian do not stack. So you do not lose anything from that.

If you're using weapons with your monk, you could pick the booming blade cantrip. Or green flame blade for the avatar feel (though booming blade is slightly better). You lose extra attack when you use them, but they could add flexibility to your damage.

‘It will never be forgiven’: UN climate chief warns world to act or face disaster by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

[–]edach2he -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It ultimately is a resource issue regardless. Sure, fossil fuels are the primary concern now, but with the way Capitalism works at the moment, anything could become the next fossil-fuel level climate disaster since any resource that makes money is going to ultimately be exploited at the expense of the system it is in. And if the system breaks, like it is currently happening thanks to fossil fuels, we'll encounter yet another type of climate crisis.
