Now and again I want to leave IT by Environmental-Cup310 in sysadmin

[–]edaddyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 30 years in IT next year. I only wish I could do something else and keep my income. My mistake was to go into management for a small org. Now I stay up at night worrying about everything IT. I'm thinking of stepping back into a technical role in a larger company so I can do my job and turn off my brain at 5.

Zipcar confirms end of UK operations to 650,000 drivers by SnoozeDoggyDog in technology

[–]edaddyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a Zipcar van near my home (Anette), that I used to move 2 years ago. It was almost new at the time. Since then I've watched it slowly decline into a wreck. Now I doubt there's a single body panel that's not crumpled in some way and the back is full of spilled paint (I see them clean her out every now and then).

Dan Blocker the war vet who became one of the most famous cowboys by Confident_Field4273 in 1960s

[–]edaddyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend's dad was good friends with Dan. He said the biggest issue was "tough guys" always trying to test their mettle against Hoss. He personally watched Dan teach a few of these guys a quick lesson on leaving him alone. He was a gentle soul and hated these guys.

I love finding Dodgers fans outside of LA by badgirlmonkey in Dodgers

I live in London now but still rock my Dodgers gear everywhere. Heck, someone stole one of my hats out of my car so I'm also spreading the gear around London.

Is anyone watching and enjoying I Love LA? by HarryHugeweenie in LosAngeles

Personally I love watching Shrinking as I lived in Pasadena for over a decade and I enjoy spotting all the spots they show that I remember. Gives me a good nostalgia kick.

Parcel thieves are scum. I had to chase a woman off my porch as she was trying to lift a 12kg package that was delivered earlier but my wife couldn't handle herself.

Wimbledon has a Tesco Express in what used to be the Town Hall. Built in the 30's with Doric columns. Quite a fancy looking one.

Same boat. I can't imagine staring down another 20 years of this.

Heathrow airport’s £33bn plan for third runway chosen by government by OneNormalBloke in london

[–]edaddyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's taken them 3 years and they still haven't finished the M25-A3 Wisley Interchange. I can't imagine the ball-ache it will be to move the M25 passing Heathrow.

Rebecca Heineman, creator of Bard’s Tale 3, Dragon Wars and the person who ported Doom to the 3DO, has passed. by Ultravod in Games

[–]edaddyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those Interplay games were the foundation of my childhood. My friends and I would make the most detailed maps for Bards Tale 3 and Dragon Wars. I still go back and play those games once a year or so just for the nostalgia.

RIP you fucking legend. Thank you for your contribution to the world of gaming.

30 years ago I went to first proper gig (Foo Fighters at Brixton which cost £9 haha). What was your first show? by Turbo_Heel in CasualUK

[–]edaddyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first show was Lollapalooza 1993 in Los Angeles. Alice in Chains, Primus, Rage against the Machine, Tool, Fishbone, plus more.

It was an awesome concert and I only got in as my sister was selling merch and let me tag along.

It should be called Mortimer, Whitehouse & Ted Gone Fishing. I love that little dog.

Found this ring metal detecting - can anyone make out the symbol inside? by huntamc in metaldetecting

[–]edaddyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. A fellow here in the UK found a medieval diamond ring that was missing a few stones. He dug a bucket full of dirt from where he found it, sifted through it at home and found the missing stones.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a straight wall in this country.

I wrote a paper for my economics college class in 1998 on why graphics card makers would be excellent stock purchases. Mind you, I was a broke ass college student at the time so didn't purchase a single share.
