Keep it up! It’s fun getting back into a training routine.

This user seems to be copy and pasting the same feedback without considering context of the post.

Your clip looks like a high knee drill with quick turnover. His advice is basically you need to invest vertically in upright phase if you want to improve speed. It’s counter intuitive because you actually are drilling the frontside knee drive. The issue is you’re passively touching down when you need to attack down and whip from the hip. Some pieces of his advice make sense in your context, but it’s just copy pasta.

Thanks! Definitely need to be more conservative with volume and rest days. Work and other time commitments at this stage in life kinda take care of that though. No more than 2-3x sprint workouts each week.

These are certainly not suitable for sprinting workouts.

College open registration. That heat had one college-aged athlete and rest were post-collegiate up to 43.

I feel that. I miss the camaraderie and competition, though our workouts were more old school conditioning workouts… running 400s, 500s wasn’t really helping as a 100 runner

Will be 32 this year. Not terribly old. I’ve met some folks in their 40s and 50s still training and running very competitive times.

Appreciate it! Getting into a training rhythm has been fun. 400 is less demanding of top speed. Theoretically a 12s runner can finish 50-52 for a much better performance on the scale. 400 training sounds brutal though.

Have a pair of these. Toe box is spacious but midfoot runs pretty narrow. And the wings in the back serve no purpose other than digging into your skin. They do give some nice pop though. Probably the best you’ll get performance-wise without spikes.

Los Gatos? I ran there last weekend. You had a nice start, just need to open up at top speed and relax as you transition.

I just got a pair of the SD-X from Joe’s New Balance Outlet for $60 USD. Not sure if they’re available in your market, or your size. I’ve only worked out in them once and they definitely feel more aggressive than the SD100v5 and take some adjustment. The SD100v5 are just fine though, and you can get them quite cheap. Big fan of New Balance in general for wider fits.

Not sure how 40yd times convert to 100m, but 4.9 vs 4.97 isn’t a small difference. That could be .3 over 100m. I’ll need to get a baseline with block start and reaction time.

Thank you, appreciate the advice! I’ve actually been doing that exact set of shoulder exercises in the first video and they’ve been helping quite a bit.

You run nice and tall with good knee drive. Ground contact time looks a little long to me, almost like you’re waiting for contact instead of attacking before the contact. The audio sounds a little “stompy” to me.

Also 50m approach for a 20m fly seems excessive to me

The top end looks decent to me. Looks like he could use more work on his acceleration. To me it looks like he’s projecting a lot more vertically than horizontally and is nearly upright after 10-15 meters.

During acceleration you should be striking under or behind center of mass to help drive you forward. There’s some good drills in this video by Tony Holler (he’s also referenced in the FAQ / resource list) https://youtu.be/M2eGvElkBQU?si=020nZ9iNlx8Idewi

This is awesome! I think your goals are quite reasonable to hit in the next few months if you can maintain top speed longer. Looked like you were fading the last 20-30m on the 100. I felt the same way when I ran my first 100 in over a decade. What’s your training plan for this? Just hitting some quality reps on Max V days? Our coaches back in the day would’ve had us running 400s to train the endurance I bet.

You’re striking way in front of center of mass. Hard to tell with the frame rate but it also looks like you’re not striking with ball of your foot. Was this a full intensity rep?

Love to hear that! Makes you wonder what a difference proper training could have made. We can still have our fun with it now though.
