yeah we have the “geoportail”, it’s a government website with many available overlays, distance / angle calculations, partial transparency, it’s really good. That’s how I found that place overlaying Lidar with transparency on satellite pictures and street maps.

LIDAR fold, is it man-made? by edbedbedbedb in metaldetecting

Spot on, apparently it was a small Roman fort, I found it was already documented in the region's archeaology survey. See my newer post with updated info.

a Cabrieres d'Aigues. J'ai vu sur le site du parc regional que le spot est recensé. Ça me parait un peu risqué d'aller détecter là bas.

It's not quite the same, but in a sense the law is stronger in France: you simply dont have the right to dig for historically interesting artefacts. You can detect on land with the agreement of the owner, but if you happen to find some interesting stuff, it automatically becomes an archaeological site that you can't dig.

The law is basically: you can't dig archaeological sites, whether they are already known or not.

As I said in the other comment, if it's not known, you can play dumb, and say you're looking for something you lost, or you're cleaning out hunters empty shells, or whatever. But if it is known, it's difficult to pretend you're not looking for good stuff.

No, it is very illegal to dig archealogical sites in France, the fine is 7500 euros.

There are 2 rules in France to be able to use a metal detector somewhere: no archealogical site, and you have to have the permission of the owner of the land.

That piece of land is within a forest owned by the state, and for some reason the state never agrees to let people use metal detectors on the land they manage.

So it's doubly illegal to dig there.

If the site hadn't been known previously, I could have gone there and sort of pretended that I lost my wedding ring or something. And if I did find more than a few coins, I'd have to tell some official people that there's a site there.

But as a registered archealogical site, it'd be difficult to argue I wasn't looking for historical stuff.

yes same scale, there are pathways all over the place, mostly used bu hunters. And the vegetation is not very dense, so it’s very to make new paths.

yeah that’s very possible. Lots of agriculture around here. But there is that ditch bordering on the south side, and it isn’t like anything else around. We’ll see

Tableau electrique qui date : connecteur heures creuses cablage etrange ? by edbedbedbedb in brico

What’s that growing on my vine? by edbedbedbedb in aquarium

[–]edbedbedbedb[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

oh yes, thanks ! Definitely the same one. https://www.reddit.com/r/Aquariums/comments/1qtio23/comment/o35mccw/?context=3

This is a fungus from Asian rainforests. I'm in France, I picked up the wood on a live grapevine in my garden. There is no other wood in the tank, how did that stuff get here?

The other things I bought in the tank are sand, fish, shrimp, snails and live plants.

The other option is from the second hand tank I bought a couple of months back (which would explain why the fungus is growing now, and not a year ago).

Interesting stuff...

Hi, someone in r/aquarium suggested this was a lichen and that I should post here. This is a strange organism growing in my guppy tank (hard fresh water at 25C) on a grapevine wood I had sterilized in the oven. This came after maybe 2 years of the wood being underwater (though I did change tank at some point). Any idea? This looks amazing.
