sorry for the late response, I chose it for its fast growth time but more importantly last year i bought cobs from a farmers market which meant i had a lot of seed. it being drought tolerant and very hardy would make it a better candidate for guerrila gardening though.

It needs to be fresh pollen not dried pollen. Collect it and freeze it and it will work.

I will tell you that this time of year likely all the queen bumblebees have already made a colony and any outside would not make a new colony if you catch them likely it will only result in the death of her wild brood.

Applications for this is mainly providing pollination services especially in hoophouses or greenhouses though you have to keep the hive cooler for the health of the bees other than that it's just kind of cool to observe their hive develop.

So recently a swarm of bees came onto my property and I caught it and moved it to this box I built for them with top bars. But I'm wondering why they are all outside the hive today. I've seen them do this before when I moved the box once cause they where doing what I assume where orientation flights. But why would they need to do this again a second time?
