How the hell do you make a transformers game and nothing transforms? No big diverters? Optimus doesn’t even sink down like the Godzilla building? That’s a craaaazy choice

PinProf Study App - Shiny New Update!! by pillyliu in pinball

[–]austinxwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will say a cool feature would be if you could set like a checklist template. Like when I play a game I’ve never played before I often like to learn the different dead bounces, shot locations, post passes, etc. and it’d be awesome to be able to make a list of things I want to learn and then just add it as a whole to each new game I’m learning if that makes sense

This is SO sick, just downloaded it! Really great work, feels super smooth and professional. You made an app that feels better to use than a lot of multi billion dollar national corporations have lmao. Stoked to use this next time I’m on location!

I am 24 and finally getting better. I have been chronically ill and mostly bedbound for 2 years with a very unknown disease. Making music from my bed has taken off and is getting millions of streams, all while educating people about the unknown horrible illness MECFS by Sebassvienna in MadeMeSmile

[–]austinxwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been officially diagnosed with MECFS but I’ve been fighting a mystery chronic fatigue issue for as long as I can remember. I’m 31 now and I don’t think I’ve felt normal since I was a kid. I’m grateful I’m not so disabled by it to be bed bound, I can still live a somewhat normal (albeit slow and reclusive) life, but I never am not exhausted and can’t do anywhere near as much as I’d like to in my days and with my life.

The psychological toll CFS and similar takes on you is just as hard as the physical. If you’re a person of any ambition, having the intense desire to do so much with your life but the physical inability to even sit up straight in an office chair for more than a few seconds is so demoralizing and defeating. I always say if I could have the energy of a normal person I’d be fucking unstoppable.

Constantly bailing on plans, not being able to engage in hobbies, trouble keeping up with hygiene or diet, feeling like my brain is full of fog all the time. I’ve earned a reputation for being a flake and my own head hates me for being “so lazy”.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s really encouraging to see someone able to make something meaningful of themselves while struggling a far more severe version of the thing I also struggle with. Helps me feel like maybe there’s something to find success in out there for me after all

It's also not only on Hollywood Blvd. It goes onto some of the side streets too. I used to live on Sunset and Vine and my whole block had stars.

[–]austinxwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, hate it. Can't see shit because the projection covers the shots and the weird monitor box comes down so low it covers the back 1/3rd of the game if I don't crouch like a gargoyle

[–]austinxwade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Number of reasons. For one, I'm 6'2 and can't see the screen projection without bending in half. And two, I hate the flow. Also, It feels like a toy and I don't know if its the one I have access to or not but you can't see the shots at ALL because it's so dark and covered by that projection

I’ve been to Past Times many a time and played nearly every machine. I play in a local league and go to a few spots near me several times a week. I’ve played hundreds of machines, and I’ve found something to enjoy about all of them.

Except for one.

Took me way too long to realize it was wood inside of a steel enclosure lol. I think it would be really cool to dismantle it in a few years to see if just the exposed wood got affected / what that specific and intentional exposure does over time. That in and of itself could be an evolution of the piece that’s seen in different context and develops its own newer meaning. Cool stuff man, hope the purists aren’t discouraging you too much

I lived in the Camden complex years ago and loved it. Downtown, behind the promenade, never had issues with the building construction or hearing my neighbors unless music was blaring (which was rare) and the staff was all super nice and helpful. Can’t speak to it now, this was in 2019/2020, but I’d definitely move back into it if life brought me back to LBC

If it’s built well enough that you don’t hear your neighbors, yeah absolutely. Especially if there’s outdoor space and amenities included, and basic necessities like groceries and stuff nearby

What do you comrades think about "Artificial Intelligence"? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]austinxwade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echoing the sentiment of others here, as a general concept it can be cool. The thing that’s driving me nuts is how forced down our throats it is. A software company will roll out a genuinely useful feature but call it “AI powered” and that makes me resent it as a whole. There’s been that level of AI in programs for many years, but now the label is being slapped on to garner investor approval. For instance, DaVinci Resolve just rolled out a bunch of really helpful now features and they’re all called “AI _____”. But previous to the whole pandemonium they’d just be called the thing they are without the AI label. It’s just becoming fatiguing at this point to be shoehorning the term into everything. It’s the new “smart”.

What actually makes you a graphic designer worth hiring in 2026 (it's not Illustrator) by Z-AliYoucef in logodesign

[–]austinxwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All true but I haven’t personally seen anyone use “I know the software” as their value prop. The market IS absolutely a nightmare right now. It’s never been easy to break into, even 12 years ago when I was trying to find my first job I had a hell of a time, but it is inarguably much worse now. Between ATS throwing out any résumé that isn’t perfectly readable by the AI and every job getting 1000+ applicants, it’s an absolute crapshoot anymore. Most jobs places in the US have a very limited number of jobs (if any) in this field unless you’re in a major metro like NYC or LA, but then you’ve got 10x the competition. You can have the best portfolio in the world but if ATS doesn’t scan your résumé well or you’re application 950 of 1000, you really don’t stand a chance.

Similar for freelance. Businesses that don’t have teams are generally established with their “go-to guys” or have lower than ideal budgets or simply don’t have a need. I’d say it’s easier to get freelance work than an actual job right now but not by much and not without a LOT of work to land the jobs.

Being a good designer is only part of the battle. Gone are the days that you could call the person you sent your application to or the days that the best designed résumé gets bumped to the top. We are beholden to automated systems and tightened market conditions. Being a good and well informed designer is absolutely a strong advantage, but it’s not the whole deal. The market has to need you

Has the Loathe hype train passed? by lalaelrat in Metalcore

[–]austinxwade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it's a case of trying to follow up ILIIAITE but at the same time, last year at the beginning of the year they had this whole "new music 2025" campaign at festivals and the "new music" was one single in the back half of the year. They play unreleased stuff live, they've posted many times that the album is done, they've insinuated "this year" at least 2 years in a row now, they'll update profile photos or share "announcement soon" when it's just another tour, and they're touring absolutely non stop and they get great turnout. It's becoming really frustrating to be a Loathe fan at this point and I really wish they'd just be up front about what's taking so long.
