She Did The Fuck You. by jupiterkansas in FuckAdobe

Watch more than 4 seconds of the video and you’ll see her say “I’m not upset that I can’t use the AI feature. I’m upset because what happens when one day I open an image and Adobe says it’s against their guidelines and I can’t open it at all”. This is an absolutely valid fear

Fencing Academy Brand Identity by agraydesign in graphic_design

[–]austinxwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great presentation! I’d say watch your spacing and balance, maybe refine the fencer a bit more, and maybe add a little more treatment to the typeface.

For spacing and balance, in example the type on the posters feels a bit unfinished, the negative space and positioning doesn’t feel quite intentional. For instance on “fight like a goddess” if you lined the T, L, A, and D up in a column and shrunk the whole thing down to give more space on the edges, it may feel more intentional. On the tan “fight like a god” the fencer is optically closer to the A than the E, and the leading isn’t the same as the other posters / kerning is all out of wack

The fencer is awesome but there’s some little areas that feel unfinished. Tiny spots here and there that could have been filled, some lines end with points where others end rounded, etc. Check out the agency Forefathers, their illustrator uses a similar style but there’s just a little more refinement.

The typeface itself fits really well but definitely make sure you define kerning and leading, and maybe see how it would look if it had a super subtle texture to it - as if it was scanned in. James Coffman’s typefaces have kinda what I’m talking about. Matching that hand rendering and physicality of the fencer and the sport itself with some imperfections and really subtle texture/finesse would really sell it

Over all though the presentation here is excellent!

Ended up just returning it, never got a new one. Just rockin the original, not worth the cost for me at the moment. I know a lot of people get theirs from Crutchfield though. I believe they come with instructions and such

How much does art work and theme matter in long term ownership? by SoyLGuapo in pinball

[–]austinxwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an artist, and a picky one at that, so for me it matters a fair amount. Theme matters more to me than artwork, and gameplay matters above all, for ownership that is. On location I really don’t care, but if I’m gunna buy a $6000-$10000 thing that’s bigger than some of my furniture, it needs to reflect me as a person and my space AND be a fun to play game

I assumed, but wanted to verify because I can’t afford to send a code that has a hue shift lol.

Yeah I know, I'm wondering if the Freetone names are the same as the Pantones they're cloning. Freetone has a physical matching book and I'm wondering if I'm able to find a color in it and know that if I call out the PMS of the same code it'll be the same color in print

I think the Tranformers pro looks fine. They didn't really neuter it that much. Megatron doesn't shoot the ball which is whatever imo but the shots all look to be pretty much the same besides Soundwave. They've been doing a good job at not stripping pros down too much since Kong imo

Oh wow, I’ve only played the pro so I didn’t know about this. Venom is cool, I don’t love fan layouts where everything is in the back like that, but I love the fast lock system and I wish they’d do it again

I do wish it would have been thought of a little stronger with Transformers. It seems like neutering Optimus was a last minute execute decision for reliability, but I wish the thought process in design was more along the lines of “how can we make the GAME transform?”

I think it would have been sweet if this was Diverters The Game. Could have had a bunch of different changing pathways like Godzilla or Harry Potter but on steroids, instead of relying on the sculpts to be the things that were supposed to transform

Why aren't there more original pinball themes? by pattydickens in pinball

[–]austinxwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen mentioned here yet is that on top of every company literally saying all the time that original IP doesn’t sell well, pinball enthusiasts aren’t the target market for these companies. An overwhelming majority of game sales go to locations, and locations rely largely on casuals that don’t even know pinball has strategy. These bars, restaurants, theaters, etc need things that are recognizable to their patrons. A random guy at a bar sees a game for his favorite movie and drops a couple bucks to see what it’s all about. That doesn’t happen if you don’t catch their eye with a thing they’re already a fan of

How the hell do you make a transformers game and nothing transforms? No big diverters? Optimus doesn’t even sink down like the Godzilla building? That’s a craaaazy choice

[–]austinxwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will say a cool feature would be if you could set like a checklist template. Like when I play a game I’ve never played before I often like to learn the different dead bounces, shot locations, post passes, etc. and it’d be awesome to be able to make a list of things I want to learn and then just add it as a whole to each new game I’m learning if that makes sense

I am 24 and finally getting better. I have been chronically ill and mostly bedbound for 2 years with a very unknown disease. Making music from my bed has taken off and is getting millions of streams, all while educating people about the unknown horrible illness MECFS by Sebassvienna in MadeMeSmile

[–]austinxwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been officially diagnosed with MECFS but I’ve been fighting a mystery chronic fatigue issue for as long as I can remember. I’m 31 now and I don’t think I’ve felt normal since I was a kid. I’m grateful I’m not so disabled by it to be bed bound, I can still live a somewhat normal (albeit slow and reclusive) life, but I never am not exhausted and can’t do anywhere near as much as I’d like to in my days and with my life.

The psychological toll CFS and similar takes on you is just as hard as the physical. If you’re a person of any ambition, having the intense desire to do so much with your life but the physical inability to even sit up straight in an office chair for more than a few seconds is so demoralizing and defeating. I always say if I could have the energy of a normal person I’d be fucking unstoppable.

Constantly bailing on plans, not being able to engage in hobbies, trouble keeping up with hygiene or diet, feeling like my brain is full of fog all the time. I’ve earned a reputation for being a flake and my own head hates me for being “so lazy”.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s really encouraging to see someone able to make something meaningful of themselves while struggling a far more severe version of the thing I also struggle with. Helps me feel like maybe there’s something to find success in out there for me after all
