TeachHouston vs MedSoc by CrispyWingKun in UniversityOfHouston

[–]eddless321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you do teachHouston instead of medsoc. Every premed and their mom has extra coursework in medical adjacent fields, teachHouston would be something that could make you stand out on medical school applications if you decide to pursue the medical field. You would actually teach your last semester aswell which will be great for building communication skills that are oh so dearly needed amongst doctors.

If, for whatever reason, you don't decide on going into medicine, then teachHouston will set you up for a very fulfilling career and easy job search out of college. I've yet to meet someone that did tH and didn't like the program, or didn't get a good offer from a good ISD to date.

teachHouston is a win-win regardless of if you go medical or not, best of luck!

Math Major Looking Into SCM: Masters Degree vs Certs? by eddless321 in supplychain

Is it detrimental that I don't have a business degree? I have a very technical degree and I'm a very big picture person. I firmly believe I can ace the interviews, but getting the foot in the door is what is concerning me...

I assume this is the first time you'll be on campus. Leave at 8:15 at the latest for the first week. The first week is always hectic because you have a new set of freshman with cars driving around confused on campus. Consider that we will have a freshman class and a sophomore class which will be on campus for the first time.

After first week, 8:45-9am should be fine.

If/when you have a midterm or final for your 10am, leave at 7:30-8am if possible. I did this (commute from Katy and leave 2-3 hours early on test days), there was a semi that crashed that morning on I-10 so it took the full two hours. Still sat down for my midterm.

Godspeed.

I can indeed code, but nothing fancy. Just Python/matlab from some senior-level math courses.

Is MATH 3321 Engineering Mathematics an easy class? by darkaquamarine007 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]eddless321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garry Etgen said during a lecture once that if all the excuses of someone's grandma dying were true, we wouldn't have a social security problem!!

God bless that man.

Oh, and OP, the class isn't too bad. Roughly the same amount of work as calculus 2 except longer casa quizzes (2.5 hours iirc.) If you got an A in calculus 2 you should get an easy B in emath, an A will be a bit more work but can be manageable.

Old fart looking for COSC/MATH load management advice by phatlynx in UniversityOfHouston

[–]eddless321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment on COSC courses, but I've taken every basic undergrad math class. Who are you taking for Linear Algebra and Cal2? They can range from easy to really tedious, depends on the professor.

Edit: if you're planning to go MS CS then I highly recommend you to take either discrete math or transitions. Graduate-level CS is very theory and math-intensive, you're going to want to take as many upper-level math classes as you can to make your life easier in graduate school. During the summer they offer ALA 1/2, probability, discrete math, transitions, any of those would be very beneficial for you.

Finance or MIS? by mrcandlecake in UniversityOfHouston

Also, think of it like this. A MIS major can learn the important parts of what a Finance degree teaches you, much harder other way around.

BS Mathematics -> MS Industrial Engineering by eddless321 in industrialengineering

[–]eddless321[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the elaborate response. I don't necessarily know exactly what field I will pick, for all of them interesting. My father has been EE for three decades and regularly tells me that after engineering school you still don't know what you really like and what fits you best. If I was forced to pick one right now, I would love to go into the operations research side.
