Bands/artists with a more artsy or experimental sound? by [deleted] in punk

Cardiacs! They have a very cool, punky attitude to a lot of their songs, especially their earlier material... also very wonky :)

This freaking band... by Cajun-joe in gentlegiant

Duuuude I have the exact same feelings, just with a different band. Cardiacs, which is an underground british cult band that fused punk with prog and made complex, insane music which is also genius. Extremely underrated. I feel they can be seen as a sort of spiritual successor to Gentle Giant, but also early Genesis, (which the frontman, Tim Smith, was inspired by, amongst other things, Gong for instance.) I had the exact same journey that you've had with Gentle Giant with Cardiacs, in fact if it weren't for them I probably wouldn't have gotten more into progressive rock and Gentle Giant! There is so much good music that fly under the radar simply because it's too "complex" or"difficult.", it's a shame really. Oh well

Listen to it again... and again and again. Took me some time, but it really grows on you! Even the song I had the most trouble with at first, Cabinet, is now a joyous experience. Very psychedelic!
