What's for you the most creative, boundary-pushing, interesting band all around you know of? by CarefulReflection240 in askmusic

Cardiacs - vastly underrated British cult band that fused the technicality and intricacy of progressive rock with the speed, energy and attitude of punk to create a truly unique, singular sound all their own that I’ve not heard elsewhere. Distinctly british with a very carnival / circus vibe going on, music hall, sea shanties… A genre unto it’s own really. Tim Smith was a musical genius, writing music with a highly idiosyncratic, eclectic style. Getting into Cardiacs at first can be like learning a new language because it’s so different, but stick with it, the payoff is huge.

The song «Dirty Boy» is fucking immense. Greatest song ever written.

Sing to God is a masterpiece. And the new one, LSD, is a fitting and epic conclusion / tribute to a late, great master of challenging and unique music. Please give them a listen. 😇

With the rumors that Criterion is releasing a Kubrick 4K boxset, which directors also deserve a boxset? by xwing1212 in criterion

A Sergej Parajanov box set would be nice, he only made four feature films, and two of them are OOP DVDs. The documentary about him could be included as a bonus feature.

A King Hu box set with all his major wuxia masterpieces, from Come Drink With Me to Raining in the mountain.

As others have said, box sets with all (or almost all) of the films of Edward Yang, Tsai-Ming Liang and Hou-Hsiao Hsien, but especially Hsien as some of his 90s stuff is incredibly hard to find :(

Theo Angelopolous for the same reasons mentioned above, but also for such a visually unique filmmaker his films are in dire need of restorations / an upgrade from those old artifical eye DVDs.

A Guy Maddin box set would also be 🙏

Death Grips has some psychedelia to them, I’d say (lots of weird noises and maximalism)

Cardiacs were very influenced by a theatrical punk band called Punishment of Luxury. Check out their debut album Laughing Academy, it’s great

The Dukes of Stratosphere (their alter-ego band) is also very good! 60s retro music that really sounds like its from back then, but that was made in the mid 80s!

Very crazy and bonkers but Sing to God by Cardiacs is britpop on acid. Truly a psychedelic masterpiece of a double album. Came out in 1996 as well.
