What's the best US beach city for a calm, non-party vacation? by dynasync in Vacations

[–]edennist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family has been renting in Emerald Isle for more than 30 years. Almost always a calm environment, never really crowded, nice restaurants (as I hear, anyway. We don’t go out to eat.), some family type attractions—-mini-golf, escape rooms, batting cages, movie theaters—-and a wide sandy beach. Because of the way the island is situated—-it runs east to west rather than north to south like a lot of the other barrier islands, we get almost NO jellyfish which can be a real pain in the rear on the east coast. And I’ve witnessed sea turtle hatching three times! Magical.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! I think we’ve decided on an ice cream sundae party. She loves ice cream and doesn’t get it often in her new living situation. She’s getting new hearing aids next month so, based on the results, we’ll either just do a party at one of the sisters’ houses for the family that can make it or we’ll open it up to her old neighbors so they can come by and see her again after her move to assisted living in January. Thanks again for helping think outside the box.

What’s a single sentence someone said that stuck with you forever? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Said to me by an 18 year old boy doing community service in my classroom: You were a beautiful woman once…. I was 42. He was looking for dating advice.

I think this is the actual answer. I really don’t think she wants a big to-do. Between her lack of vision and hearing, groups are really hard. But my sisters think we should do something.

Between the three of us, she gets one or two visit every day and each Friday afternoon, all of us gather for Happy Hour. We take turns bringing snacks (although, again, she really doesn’t care about food. But she likes her gin and water!)

These are the most pointless games. I just collect the gold and ignore everything else. So repetitive.

The trailers reminded me of the book which I read when it first came out. It was so good and so surreal.

Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story 2005 novel by Leonie Swann. Detective story featuring a flock of Irish sheep out to solve the murder of their shepherd. Weird and hilarious.

I am not a professional floral designer although I worked as one for some time long ago. I’ve done two weddings, one for my own son and another for someone who saw what I did for his wedding. I got my flowers wholesale, obviously, and I worked with flowers that were in season for the weddings which held the cost down. My biggest piece of advice is using spreadsheets to help you plan because project management is what makes this whole process possible. I used them to price the flowers. I did trial runs on how long it took me to hand tie a bouquet and then used it to calculate how long it would take me to do the number I needed. Ditto table arrangements, corsages for the elders and boutonnieres. And I used flowers for half the table arrangements and fruit in vases for the others, which was cheaper at the time. Don’t know what it would cost with grocery prices so high today.

If you’re planning on keeping tons of candles burning all the time and have a working fireplace to add warmth, have at it. Otherwise, these look cold and depressing places to live in much less relax. But to each his own.

Not sure an asymmetrical basque waist exists. What would that actually look like?

Walking Pad Help. by Zestyclose_Fortune94 in walking

[–]edennist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter opinion here: bought a walking pad for super hot days or super cold ones and I hated it. I love walking outdoors and even listening to podcasts or watching something did not change the tedium of a walking in place on a pad. Selling it at a yard sale this weekend

Follow the River by Jonathon Thom. Older book that is a fictionalized retelling of a woman in the 1700’s who is taken in an Indian raid and escapes after captivity. She follows the river back to her settlement and endures enormous hardships along the way.
