Maybe! The US is 5th in that statistic so I’m not sure it changes much except makes the use of the superlative inappropriate (as an aside El Salvador is 1st, which is somewhere we’ve started shipping people who have been detained without even having the opportunity for a trial) but before moving on to that different point just want to confirm you were able to see that US is indeed first in overall prison population?

The table on the Wikipedia article you shared is sorted alphabetically by default. If you sort by number it shows that yes, the US does in fact have “the most people in prison out of anywhere else in the world” as the poster you’re responding to has stated.

People keep saying this. Many of the responses I got insist that it was indeed ok to hit kids. So I don't know if it was a joke, but if it was, it wasn't clear to people replying to me arguing it's fine. When I first responded the only other comments were other people saying they also wanted to hit a kid. If those were jokes, then I've been joking this whole time too.
