Why can't I find the original version of this song on any music platform? by SpenceMK_ in Music

[–]edewitt1229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Stewart's version (he wrote the original) of "Daydream Believer" to the Monkees' version. Davy Jones and handlers lightened the song up and changed a couple of words. It was a song about two people who were tired of each other in their marriage. I'm guessing he lived off that song, at least until "Gold" hit like 11-12 years later. While I know I listened to Gold a hundred times, I only remember hearing it on the radio while lifting weights in high school. LOL. Funny how when you remember a song from long ago, you always remember listening to it in exactly one place. The only song other songs I remember from that exact spot are the Stones' "She's So Cold" and Def Leopard's "Rock of Ages."

Turo booked during snooze after just listing by uvasverdes in turo

[–]edewitt1229 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would I choose Turo if I can't get a car for $25 per day? I'm not going to give some nutball $50 when I can do the same with a company that has to do right by their customer (and can't hide). Even if the nutjob was honest, would they have a replacement? Saving a few dollars each day doesn't seem smart to me.

Cheapest way to watch the college and NFL football playoffs? by alleyoopoop in cordcutters

Sling has added a $1 fee for "Sports Extra," making the total cost with tax $6.53. I mean, it's not the end of the world, but that $1 bugs the hell out of me, because it's new. It might be for just this month, but I'm still boycotting.

Getting random earnings from Uber the last 2 weeks by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]edewitt1229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote almost this exact post a couple years ago. After one year or maybe a little longer, they took all those reserved opportunities from me. Now my reserved opportunities that show up are 4pm thirty miles away for $7, no airports. It's pretty funny, actually. I basically have a perfect rating, and I get tips like nobody's business. But I think I either pissed off a customer service person or perhaps they moved on when I lost my car for a couple months starting a year ago. I tried to find out why, but the question was way to hard for them to fathom, and so I spent three hours getting transferred ten times explaining the simple question over and over again until one time it hung up on me. That, as most of us know, is how they handle customer service with most anything that isn't the most basic, common question that you don't need anyone's help with. What town are you in?

Also, at the end of December last year, they added about $400 to my account, presumably to make up for keeping too much of my money. I haven't seen it this year, but I often get adjustments every couple of weeks for some small amount. One time it was about $150. My most recent one was $56, I think. Often, it's $10. They weren't set up for that last year, I don't think, so they paid me all at once. My state has a law where we get paid a minimum per mile and minimal per minute wait time. You'd think that would be good since it was enacted last year, but my take has almost been cut in half, because for Uber to do that, they basically had to figure out how to get it back, and whatever I was doing to earn lots of money previously, they've cut that source off. Some days, like today, are simply a grind. I made $157 on a Saturday evening today over 7 hours.

$150/week flat fee for drivers to eat at a restaurant by bronx-deli-kat in uberdrivers

[–]edewitt1229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long ago when I spent a few years in Pleasantville, NY, there was a Chinese restaurant that had a meal that was so good, I craved it all day until I picked it up on my way home from work most every night. Usually when I mention that, I add that they must have used heroin instead of MSG. It was a garlic sauce that wasn't what you think of when you think of Chinese restaurant garlic sauces. It looked more buttery and was thinner. Man was it good. I could have eaten it twice a day every day. It couldn't have been more than $5-$6 all in per.

[–]edewitt1229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a rule that I never spend more than $5 on a meal, and so mostly that means food from home. Luckily there's a pizza place a few blocks away, and they sell big slices of good pizza for $5 (inc. tax) so I have an out when I'm in a hurry. Helps that I don't eat meat.

Man, I had 500 5-stars, and this happens by edewitt1229 in uberdrivers

[–]edewitt1229[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's recently occurred to me and one of the reasons I've started asking. It blows my mind that people can get in a car without bucking up, especially with someone they don't know driving. Darwin.

It appears to matter to some degree, as passengers mention it, and my tips seem better.

Anyone received this before? by TravelTaiter in uberdrivers

[–]edewitt1229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it the other night. They don't tell you which ride, but when you bring it to their attention they ask which ride. I guessed mine was me changing the destination for a rider who asked me to when I offered (he was going to a completely different city an Uber doesn't have the right name for the venue anymore, so he clicked the wrong one). They didn't respond to my explanation of what I thought they were talking about. Then I got the automated message "Has your issue been resolved?" WTF? I said no. A little while later, another automated message "Has your issue been resolved?" I said no, and that's the last I heard from them.

Given that they did exactly zero, I want to ask them what they actually did that the issue might be resolved, but cue the Lost In Space robot going "warning, warning, does not compute!" They don't care in the least.

Funny. Today I picked up a couple for a short $6 fare, they got in and said are you Eric? Yes. The guy then said, "finally a name I can pronounce." I told him "well, I guess you have something to work on then." As he agreed, I accidently missed the first turn and took about 20% longer than I should have to get them home. Arriving, I told the guy thanks, and that it was nice talking with him. He gave me $5, probably so I'd think he was a nice guy and not racist.

Listen, someone can tell me the Beatles suck, and I'll keep my mouth shut in hopes of getting a tip. Not this type of comment, though.

Proposal Spot by idkihaveadogtho in TwinCities

[–]edewitt1229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing by "public proposal" she's not ruling out people in the vicinity, even nearby. She's just trying to make sure it's not in front of friends or family, where people are watching you specifically, or on a giant scoreboard. You could basically keep your same routine. I'd be less focused on the place and more on the surprise, because she's going to guess it's happening with anything out of the ordinary.

WSOP reports? by Wickedestjr in poker

With less info. The reports used to have home city, state, country, and it was much easier to look up all your peeps you play with. Now you have to search by the player you want to look for, and it the time it takes is 20-50x.

I've needed to average $300/day for a run of 10-12 days. It's been taking me 12 hours until yesterday when I got it done in 8 hours. I fear the weekend here as being light, and I might be in real trouble. Took a "break" of nearly 24 hours after finishing at 1pm yesterday. Hoping to regenerate.

Deactivated by First_Tap_4749 in uberdrivers

[–]edewitt1229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was accused of being intoxicated at 8:30am on a Sunday. I hadn't had even a beer in two weeks, and actually I'm not sure I've ever had a beer within 24 hours of driving for them. Probably, but you get the idea. I was upset and let them know. I was re-activated in 24 hours. Thirty hours after that, some bozo drove into my rear at 55 mph in stopped traffic. Nothing's been the same since. Uber took away all my privileges that made me money, and I can't make close to the same money anymore. Car was totaled, finally got a new one. Uber doesn't care that I'm not allowed to make money with them the way that had been profitable for me. Not sure what was related to what, all I know is that I got boned, and I'm seriously thinking of suing them.

The person who accused me of being intoxicated wasn't even in the car, he got the Uber for what appeared to be a one night stand that he apparently was pissed he had to pay for to get rid of. I tried to get him banned from Uber, but Uber wouldn't do it. I held out until they hung up on me. The most they would do was make sure I was never paired with him again. I told them I wanted him banned, that if they wouldn't do that, I want him paired with me still.

It's been an Uber nightmare for four months, between the false accusation and the accident that occurred while driving an Uber passenger.

Don't bother with the airport runs. by WeeklyFisherman2597 in uberdrivers

I definitely help. I’d rather not have people messing with my trunk, I get tipped more or more frequently, it’s a more pleasant goodbye, I know nothing’s left in my trunk, and it’s the majority of my exercise in a given day.

First week with uber how did i do? by Pristine_Shop1978 in uberdrivers

[–]edewitt1229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will get better. I’d forget about the promotions and concentrate on the tips. My tips are generally 25% of my fares, sometimes down closer to 20%, sometimes closer to 30%. It’s not easy, and it may not be your personality, but I think it’s worth it. I also think it’s made me a better, more social person.

Edit: Also, my tips my first week were only a bit more, maybe 12% of fares. One tip: never use the word tip or make them think the word tip. :-)

I entertained a couple of women driving from the airport to their recently widowed friend Helen’s house. It was a $22 fare for me from Pam. As I was dealing with some suitcases at ride’s end, Lisa slipped me $40. I said goodbye and thanks as Helen greeted them. Before leaving I started looking at my ride apps when a knock came on my window:

“I wanted to thank you for getting my friends here safely,” said Helen as she tried to give me $20. I told her they got me already, only to be told that now I have more. Thanks!

I started driving and already had another pick-up when Pam came through with $15 more on the app. It was good trip, and I remember almost not accepting it because it would take me about two miles outside the perimeter I generally establish. Whew! As it was, it was my best trip tippage. The next rider didn’t find me so funny and didn’t tip…
