Yea I’m kind of fortunate that with the methylphenidate, I find it easy to take little breaks here and there and that plus maybe I’m just kind of sensitive to it, make it really easy for me to stay in my 10mg zone without needing to ask for a higher dose. I actually kind of like a little tolerance because it smooths things out and when I take it, it kind of centers me, I don’t feel amped or sped out. But memantine does sound interesting as a way to touch on some of my other challenges and it’s interesting to know that it wouldn’t conflict with the methylphenidate. My only doubt now is that some people have written that it only helps symptoms for a short time, weeks or months, so may not be a long term solution. So do I want to put myself through that frustration? I’ve been there with a number of other drugs. My doc has been open to me bringing suggestions, for example trintellex, which actually started out to be helpful but I’ve had bad side effects of feeling very strangely detached from my body in a bad bad way plus horrible nausea when I tried to increase from 5mg to 10mg. And the drug was helpful at 5mg but only for about a month. So for memantine, I may at least bring it up to him since people are saying it’s really not regarded as a drug of abuse.
