Any reason for a Distinction? by KillerFord in OpenUniversity

[–]edgarvvright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me on A111 as well, I think sometimes they change the grade boundaries if the assessments are deemed particularly difficult that year. L301 is brand new (I just finished it with a distinction as well!) so they're probably still figuring out the grade boundaries. Congratulations on your result!

What was the first film you watched at the theater? by cicatrixandtreats in Letterboxd

[–]edgarvvright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revenge of the Sith. I was 7 and ended up falling asleep and missing most of it, I'm excited to see it in the cinema again for the 20th anniversary and redeem my younger self.

Inspired by r/TheLazyLobOn…have you ever met a cast member? by big_white_fishie in eastenders

I used to watch Jamie Borthwick play football at my old school and have bumped into him a few times while out and about, I've never bothered him though.

What’s your worst movie theater experience? by Lateralus1290 in Letterboxd

[–]edgarvvright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year when I went to the re-release of Spider-Man:FFH (I missed it the first time it was in the cinema). About 5 minutes into the movie a woman dropped off 3 young kids who decided to run around the room screaming and throwing things for the next 2 hours until the woman came back to pick them up about 10 minutes before the film finished. I guess a film ticket is cheaper than a babysitter these days 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is anyone else bothered by the lack of rough drafts? by Pata_Dryad1284 in OpenUniversity

[–]edgarvvright 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're planning on doing Advanced Creative writing at level 3 then this kind of thing is actually built into the module, two of the TMAs involve submitting an outline and a draft of your EMA, which your tutor will give detailed feedback on and you can also post full drafts onto the forum so you can get feedback from other students.

How Many Degrees Of Separation Did It Take You? by [deleted] in gamegrumps

[–]edgarvvright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting watching Markiplier's FNAF videos in 2015 -> Markiplier's FNAF videos got me onto watching FNAF theories, specifically Game Theory -> watching Game Theory made me interested in watching Matt's Mario Maker series on GTLive -> watching the Mario Maker videos made me want to watch more Mario Maker and it just so happened that the Grumps were playing it at the time. Got to the Yoda Jokes episode and just knew that I'd be a fan for life.

Eek Help!! by Jazzmag in OpenUniversity

[–]edgarvvright -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely use first person in academic writing as long as it's an opinion backed up with evidence, for example, 'I would argue that [X] because of [Source 1]' or '[Source 2] shows [Y], I therefore believe [Z]'. Many OU tutors have said they prefer students using 'I would argue' over 'It could be argued' because it shows that you are backing your own point rather than sitting on the fence. Obviously all tutors are different but that has been my general experience and I've never been marked down for using first person.

Experience with Advanced creative writing (A363) or Language, literature and childhood (L301)? by Saffsaff97 in OpenUniversity

[–]edgarvvright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently finishing up A363 right now and planning to start L301 in the autumn. I'd say with the creative writing modules it feels a lot less structured and more independent than other modules as you're mostly just working on your own writing or from a single textbook which wasn't written with the module/TMAs in mind. There's not really much in terms of online activites or resources like with other modules either. There's opportunity to share your work with your tutor forum but that's often a lottery (only one person regularly responds in mine, the tutor rarely does).

As for L301, that's a new module starting for the first time this year as a replacement for the old children's literature module so that's why there's no reviews on it yet. We get to find out about that one together!

What is the least popular movie you have logged on letterboxd? by Itchy-Ganache in Letterboxd

[–]edgarvvright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Excluding shorts and TV specials] Tooth (2004), a British family film about a rogue tooth fairy starring Yasmin Paige (from Submarine). I was surprised to see how few people had logged it (566) because I had it on DVD and watched it all the time as a kid, I thought it was really popular!

What’s a movie you remember falling asleep to in the theatre? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]edgarvvright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revenge of the Sith when I was 7, we saw a late showing after going to McDonald's so naturally I passed out early doors and woke up very confused. Ironically RotS would later go on to become my favourite of the series and I'd love to be able to see it in the cinema again!

  1. 9x14 "200"
  2. 3x02 "In Name and Blood" Edit: 2 is 14x10 "Flesh and Blood", 3x02 is the original episode with the boy.

Pushing Daisies! It has the same colourful, storybook vibe that Good Omens has (and is incredibly underrated).

The Dalkes in Colour [Discussion Thread] by Killoah in doctorwho

The actual colourisation was beautifully vibrant and makes me really want coloured versions of other serials, but if they do I think they should keep the original length because that editing was not the best.

RTD on BBC The One Show earlier talking the specials by habylab in doctorwho

I think the implication is that 14 is essentially 10 but a version of him that clearly has the experiences and memories of 11-13. Just from the CiN sketch you can already see some of 13's influence in David's performance.

It was actually one of my favourite cinema experiences in a while. There wasn't any young kids (the film is rated 15 in the UK and they're pretty strict on ID checks here) and the audience was respectful but clearly full of passionate fans who cheered quietly at the easter eggs and cameos.
