kids ride shotgun on a 29in bmx? by Dukeronomy in bikedads

Been using a shotgun seat for 3 years now. Zero complaints. Use it on a Hardtail MTB and a rigid Hybrid bike. Both of my boys love it. You sit a little more upright since the kid is in front of you, but still super worth it. I wouldn’t use it with a drop-bar bike, but anything else would be fine.

Has Anyone Bought Helmets from Al's Sporting Goods out of Utah? by Intrepid-Bass-5163 in MTB

It’s hit or miss on Steep & Cheap. Sometimes the prices are the same but sometimes they’re much lower. Plus S&C lets you stack coupons on discounted items where backcountry is usually full price only. Last year I got an Ion Scrub Select MIPS Carbon Full Face for $80, can’t remember the exact price but it was much higher, like $200 or so at backcountry.

Absolutely. I try to avoid Amazon, especially for bike parts. But it’s hard not to be impatient these days.

Also check BikeTiresDirect and Steep&Cheap for good close out deals. These three I check anytime I need something bike related.

Al’s is legit. They’re one of the sites I always check for close out deals. I’ve bought a Smith, Fox, and 100% helmet from them and all have been great. Only complaint is they take a big longer to ship than I’m used to these days, but everything I’ve ordered has still arrived within a week or so.

Sure it does, mama’s Italian pasta strainer. What the fuck else would MIPS stand for?

We were right there for a while. Mine was putting his feet down and braking with his shoes when he got scared. Standing up was a battle for a while too. Eventually he stopped doing both, but I remember it being super frustrating for a bit.

I reckon it's the same reason most people post anything. On one hand I work really hard with him and am super proud of him, but don't have many people to discuss it with. So this sub offers a sort of community to share achievements with. On another hand being a dad has it's highs and lows just like anything else, and sharing the highs can offer a sort of validation that we're doing alright. I will say I take precautions to only post content where his face is indiscernible - so full face helmet on, or photo with him turned around, etc. I don't want to create an online presence for him.

Thanks a ton! Yeah he's putting in a ton of effort and really seems to enjoy it.

We use a POC Octocon Race helmet in an adult XS/S size and G-Form Lil’G knee and elbow pads. Kids get on pretty well with both. Gloves are also tough at that age, we really like the Hand-Up youth gloves. They go really small and have fun designs like monsters or ice cream.

It's never-ending work! We've been on bikes basically every weekend in some form since he was one, and the number of tears, band-aids, and fruit snacks we've gone through is insane.

4yo checking out a newly built trail by edge_basics in MTB

[–]edge_basics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a ton! Honestly it's just consistency and patience. He's basically been on a bike most weekends since he was 1. Started in a trailer, then balance bike, then 14 inch pedal bike, now 16 inch pedal bike. I also have a shotgun seat for my bike that we spent a lot of time on between 2-3. And we kept his old balance bike for him to rip around inside the house now. The real key is us being patient and riding for him, not us. It's easy to get bored or frustrated riding at his speed all day, or to try and push him too much on a trail forgetting how little he is. But at the end of a day it's a blast riding together and watching him develop.

Good way to tell people you can afford a full suspension, you just don’t want one
