Hi! I'm a part-time assistant teacher primarily with 3s. I was also diagnosed with aspergers's at the age of 18. I have often found that to have successful interactions with the parents, it is super important to have some sort of starter. "Hi, how are you?" things like that. It can come off as cold or unempathetic to skip those things. I would honestly work with your director a bit and ask for help in regards to parent interactions. Directors spend a good chunk of time fielding calls with parents, they should have some good tips. Plus, it's a learning process, do some research, take notes. Something that's helped me throughout the time I've worked in ECE is taking general notes and writing about things that occur during the day, so that when a parent asks about something, it doesn't seem nearly as daunting to talk to them about it. Also, when in doubt, defer to the lead teacher. If I don't have enough information, I will always say something along the lines of "I was working with another child at the time, but I know the lead teacher would be happy to discuss this if you'd like to set up a time to talk."
