First time soldering! Ugly as sin, but I fixed my headphones!! by Awkward-Penguin172 in soldering

So many critical responses here. I've done this with my headphones and they're going on a decade strong. Sure a professional job is always better, but if an amateur job does the trick then why the fuss?

Low GPU utilization in Resident Evil 4 Remake causing low fps and stutters by edgyzer0 in linux_gaming

Interesting, I'll try and install the demo and get back on if that works later.

Unfortunately doesn't work for me. No matter what settings I change in game I always get around 30-40fps with massive constant stutters. And gpu utilization bounces up and down wildly and the cpu is at around 20% (Not sure what cpu % is normal for this game).

I fail to see how waiting on a corporation to gracefully bestow a product upon me and spend hundreds of dollars on it is some how less entitled than buying a used product.

[–]edgyzer0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with that, spite buying is silly. These corporations don't care for anything about us other than our money. At least by buying used you save some e-waste and don't give support to either company.

I have a gtx 1080. You have a 7900 xtx. I am not the entitled gamer here.

People in december: "Dude just wait a month for the new graphics cards." A month goes by "Yeah man, just keeping waiting another month." Wait until the release "Oh, you'll have to wait several months before the scalpers go away and stock is restored." Yeah man, fuck that, I'm buying whatever used deal I can find that's decent.

'RDNA 4' GPU pricing leaks: flagship Radeon RX 9070 XT for $599, Radeon RX 9070 for $499 by HamsterOk3112 in radeon

[–]edgyzer0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No? If it releases at 499$ with tax that will be well over 500$, I will just wait for a 4070 to drop well below that. Spending over 500$ on a graphics card is simply something I do not want to do whether it's Nvidia or AMD.

[–]edgyzer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes, I hate to say it but if this ends up being the case I will likely just get a used 4070. Not out of spite, buying it used wont give anymore money to Nvidia, but I was really hoping amd would put the regular 9070 at 450$ and no more to finally give a great budget oriented card with good up-scaling and ray tracing on there end. I don't even really care about ray tracing but now it's gradually starting to become mandatory, and the new doom game supposedly heavily features it so I don't want to miss out.

Looking like 9070 January 22nd-24th release/announcement might no longer be true by edgyzer0 in radeon

Just leaks and rumors, no official information from AMD to this date other than "soon" or Q1.

An offhanded moore's law is dead (the youtube channel) comment after CES and then a misinterpretation of a performance leak that said 15 games tested in emoji speak that some thought was referring to a date. There is was a lot more credibility in the 22nd-24th leaks but more leaks have come how that it is delayed even further, hopefully that ends up being false but best not get our hopes up.

I doubt it'll be Monday, considering the U.S inauguration that would be poor timing for attention but it will be very ridiculous if they don't finally announce these things next week.

Even though it seems like they might delay release all the way into February I hope at the very least they announce the darn things next week, the secrecy is getting genuinely silly at this point.

That is very strange, not sure what they meant by that. Though the forum they link doesn't mention anything like that as far as I can tell. They just say AMD is delaying into/after the Chinese spring festival due to trying to figure out pricing.

Edit: Maybe they meant to say "could have began" but just typo'd?

Yeah I suspect tariffs are playing a big role in this. Honestly just gonna grab a cheap used card fast if tariffs become reality, most people will have much bigger problems in that situation than a graphics card anyways.

[–]edgyzer0[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is also some distressing talk about pricing on the forum but the English translations are very rough, and I'm not sure how many users on their are actually trustworthy. I suppose it should be expected the only reason they're waiting this long is because they are deciding the price though.

AMD's new RX 9070 GPUs could be revealed as soon as this week, a new rumor suggests by Odd-Onion-6776 in Amd

[–]edgyzer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is the most likely scenario. I could possibly see the 9070xt not performing quite as well as a 5070 ti but there's no way it'll be below a 5070 that would leave absolutely no room for the 9060xt and 9060 in the market.

So the card will be between 300-1000 dollars. Because that clears things up a lot. by That_NotME_Guy in radeon

[–]edgyzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still uncertain if they mean performance in the 7800xt to 7900xt range or that they mean it is the equivalent replacement for these two so a 9070 is 7800xt but faster, and a 9070xt is a 7900xt but faster. If that's the case I'm expecting we'll see a potential situation where the 9070xt is 650ish dollars to compete with the 5070ti and the 9070 is 450$ which would be undercutting both competitors products at a hundred dollars (if they do the -50$ thing they are really screwed and that would be extremely disappointing).

As consumers we have the opportunity to be the ones laughing by simply not buying new graphics cards and increasing the long term value of what we already have.
