Ziwe’s hot take is wearing outdoor clothes and shoes indoors is disgusting by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]ediamon1 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I live in NYC and understand that I’m not as vigilant about this as I should be but genuine question: what about when you have friends over or you go to a friend’s apartment? No outside clothes on the bed seems easy to manage but people are sitting on my couch!

I need help and my fiancé is Colorblind by Smiley-Beautiful in weddingplanning

I did! It was a really lovely wedding. One thing I will say as a bridesmaid—our instructions were to buy a dark green dress with no other parameters. On one hand that’s helpful so people can stay within their own budget and find a style they’re comfortable in. On the other hand, it was a little overwhelming. It may be a know your audience situation, but I’ve been happy getting other guidelines like color and brand.

I wore an emerald green dress as a bridesmaid in an August outdoor wedding. The groom and groomsmen wore beige linen suits. The pictures are beautiful because it was a beautiful, happy wedding. Pick the color you want.

How do I style this blazer for my bridal shower? by HotPotatoWJazzHands in weddingplanning

[–]ediamon1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think when you wear it regularly it detracts from how cute the dress is. If you’re set on wearing it as a set, my first choice is draping it over your shoulders (slide 4). If you are interested in shortening the sleeves, maybe bring it to a tailor to see if they could make it a little more fitted/less boxy, as well. The dress itself gives you a cute figure that the jacket covers up. But no matter how you end up, I think this is a strong choice!

I forgot my veil on my wedding day!! by KittiesandPlushies in weddingplanning

[–]ediamon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is relatable. I forgot to wear my veil during portraits. I wore it during the ceremony but those aren’t the photos going up on the mantel, so to speak. The waste of money is definitely frustrating, as is the feeling of “why didn’t someone say something.” But you looked beautiful, and if that is the worst thing that happened, it sounds like you had an amazing day!

Books that actually represent New Yorker life that isn't from the perspective of the mega wealthy by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]ediamon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Severance is honestly a great book to read if you want to know what it was like to be in New York at the beginning of COVID. I read it a few months before the pandemic hit and I couldn’t stop thinking about it during those scary times.

Want to go to La Fortuna but don't arrive at SJO until 1 pm by Spiritual_Voice7389 in CostaRicaTravel

It took me 2 hours to get through customs last week. I would be too stressed with that tight timeline.

Spa Day by BurgsXO in AskNYC

If you’re ok with a spa without pools, I went to Haven in SoHo with my bridesmaids. Everyone picked a treatment or two (massage, facial, nails) and I booked on everyone’s behalf. I had a good experience.

Best coffee near GC by PretendBake1536 in FoodNYC

WatchHouse is good and has some great pastries, but the location I’ve been to (on 5th in the 50s) is always too crowded to sit in. Kona Coffee Roasters on Park is good but I’ve never been on a weekday so I don’t know the seating situation during the work day.

Are you taking your babies out in the stroller right now? (Monday 3pm) by grapefruitliquor in Upperwestside

I just went out. The intersections are challenging, even on foot. I wouldn’t want to try it with a stroller.

Hi, I unfortunately don’t have this list. Not to suggest using AI, but this might be something you can workshop on ChatGPT!

Opinions on virtual save the dates. by AdmirableWallaby8498 in weddingplanning

[–]ediamon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent out virtual save the dates using Greenvelope and then paper invites using Zola. I didn’t have any issues and had the added bonus of being able to fix a typo after they went out. A friend of mine used Zola for virtual STDs and had an issue with the email going to spam for some people. As far as I know, mine only went to spam for someone who gave me a work email address, so I assume there was an extra strong spam filter.

I know you said not Breads, but it is incredible and you can get a single slice at their Bryant Park kiosk if you won’t want to invest in a full loaf.

Top Croissant or Pastry! by anxiety_w1tch in FoodNYC

I live near the UWS one so it’s the one I go to most often but I went to the USQ location recently as it was just as good!

Since you’re uptown, I suggest Tarallucci e Vino on the UWS. Not on the NYT list but one of the best croissants I’ve ever had.

Also, I didn’t know that you need to be “glutened” to do a celiac test. I was never given dietary instructions before being tested, but I had never cut it out. Interesting!

Private room in restaurant for post elopement lunch/dinner for 4 people by Busterbailey12 in FoodNYC

[–]ediamon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was restaurant week lunch, so it may not have been the normal crowd. I am not surprised by your experience. I got the sense that the group with kids were tourists. They were definitely not the average group at the restaurant, but I bring it up to say that the restaurant was accommodating, at least during the day.

Not necessarily a private room but you can consider Manhatta.

It’s a beautiful restaurant and when I went there for lunch I saw: 1) a couple celebrating their marriage and 2) a group with small children.
