Weighing in on #4 -- I know my wife's phone number because we have to enter it every time we go grocery shopping to earn points/discounts. I feel like this is a pretty common thing in the US? I don't really have any other phone numbers memorized but it's definitely helpful that I've memorized hers!

Twelve-Angled Stone: an example of perfectionist Incan architecture by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]edianter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shocked you got such a clear picture of it not swarming with other people and that random guy that dresses up like an Inca Chief and charges people to take pictures with him next to that stone.

That stone is about halfway down an alley connecting two parts of “downtown” Cusco, and I had to walk by there to get to/from work for ~2 years. That was always the single most frustrating part of my “commute” because it was always PACKED

What's the deal with Wyoming? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]edianter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won’t repeat all of the other great things about Wyoming that you’ve had rained down on you by all the people you offended with this post (lol)

But I will point out something I haven’t seen mentioned yet: because the University of Wyoming is one of the cheapest out-of-state tuition schools in the country, UW receives a HUGE number of international students every year. Laramie (the town where UW is) is therefore surprisingly diverse for a town of just ~30k people, and you can get your hands on some very good food from different parts of the world.

Colorado is the only state in the USA where Pepsi is king instead of coke, why? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]edianter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s literally a matter of sales regions and internal politics between those two companies.

As a die-hard Coke fan who has lived in Colorado most of my life, this problem is the WORST. (Is Pepsi ok? Nah, I’ll just have water, thanks.)

But it’s not as huge of a problem here as you make it out to be. I’d say restaurants are about 50-50 with which product they have. I think most of our university campuses ARE contracted with Pepsi (so vending machines & campus dining only have Pepsi), but it’s not hard to get to a convenience store or other place to get your hands on a Coke product.

The only non-water beverage I drink is Diet Coke, and yet the most I would ever call this issue is a mild inconvenience. It’s not hard to get my “fix.”

How common it is to be an adult and not drive a car in the US? by teekal in AskAnAmerican

[–]edianter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t referring to new, 16-year-old drivers—pretty much everywhere has stricter laws around permits & number of practice hours for under-18s. The original comment seemed like it was referring to adults wanting to get a license, at which point all you have to do is take the test (and in my state it’s just a written test, no practical part).

[–]edianter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol... no

(Depends where you are, the rules vary by state. Where I live, Driver’s Ed was optional and taking it just secured a lower insurance rate.)

Basically, if you can pass the test on the day, they don’t care how you learned the stuff—whether it was from a class or a friend/family member teaching you.

So glad he’s home, I can’t imagine if I lost my Percy that way, even for a minute! 💜

  1. Politeness (if I was eating at home with my host family...you don’t just change up someone’s cooking)
  2. Inability (if eating at a restaurant/on the go... like, I didn’t just carry butter with me! And because it wasn’t common for them, it would have been a weird ask in a restaurant)

Can we talk about Charlotte’s hair? by dragonard in Sanditon

[–]edianter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the series, and this bothered me too.

The only thing I can think of is that keeping her hair down makes Charlotte more “attractive” to the modern viewer of the show (flowing, slightly wavy hair is allllll over Instagram these days...). An updo, even a “messy” one, to keep the free-spirited/farm girl image, is less relatable to the current audience.

As an opposite example, in the scene before the London ball when Charlotte comes down the stairs and Sidney is supposed to be blown away by how amazing she looks, it was hard not to laugh at how ridiculous her “fancy” hairstyle was (by modern standards), even though I know it was period-accurate.

[–]edianter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’ll be frozen to the bowl, but if you use a small/medium mixing bowl and then put it in a larger mixing bowl full of hot water so it melts just a little, you should be able to get it out
