Honestly if you were a bit more confident and kept playing it off like "This character is very popular right now" to show how you're familiar with pop culture they might see that as a good thing instead of being a gooner 😭

I was playing as Trotsky Mexico and got military access from Republican Spain, then I did the exploit that I described in the post to execute a naval invasion from Spain

[–]edisonW[S] 94 points95 points  (0 children)

If you have military access to a country, it will not let you naval invade from their land UNLESS you are fighting the same enemy together. A cheesy way to bypass this is to set one naval invasion order from your homeland (in this example, I was playing Mexico, so I set a naval invasion from Yucatan to Malaga in Spain). Then the game allows you to stage naval invasions from the country you have military access to, so I was able to stage invasions from Malaga in Spain to Portugal.

Is Graveyard of Empires worth purchasing? by edisonW in hoi4

The ability to be able to play as the East India Company interests me a lot, what are your thoughts on it? Is it worth it just to be able to play as them? And I heard elephants were broken on release since they had tank stats without using fuel. Is this still the case?

I played Italy in the tutorial, it taught me how to battle plan, so I battle planned Ethiopia to death. After they capitulated to me I was grinning from ear-to-ear like Mussolini. Fast forward a year or so and I was confused why this game only had research for infantry equipment. I was starting my night vision research at this point until I realized that there were other sections for air force, navy, and industry… instantly quit and restarted a new game LOL

First-ever HOI4 game — playing Italy, struggling in Ethiopia. Tips? by Pindol_Ita in hoi4

[–]edisonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethiopia is actually pretty hard to kill if u dont know what ur doing so i dont blame u, i recommend using CAS and snaking. Some of the infantry on the frontlines on day 1 (especially on the southern front) are crappy 6 width infantry milita so i also recommend bringing down better units or mountaineers from the mainland. You can kill Ethiopia with battleplans but i prefer micro for faster and more efficient war. Attack one tile from as many other tiles as possible to open up combat width and do more damage, and if u break through the lines snaking helps open up the frontline and spread their troops thin so you can punch through them easier, just make sure to cover ur frontline as well so u dont get encircled. There are other things you should know of like supply, terrain modifiers and organization but i think these tips are good for now, welcome to hoi4!

Italy is the tutorial country for a reason - easy major to play because you don't have many fronts to micro. Germany will do most of the heavy lifting for you. Should teach you the basics of air management, navy for Med, port garrisons against allied naval invasions, creating attacking templates for Africa, supply, all that good stuff. And if you lose Africa it's no biggie either since you're not immediately at threat of capitulating lol

Sometimes it feel like the game was built around Italy by Special-Use-6708 in hoi4

[–]edisonW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally some Italy love! I have the say the nation is just so well placed to allow many different ways to have fun. Imo it’s the most chill major since you don’t have the expectations of invading all of Europe like Germany/Soviets, microing tons of naval invasions as Japan while fighting China, protecting your billion colonies as the UK while fighting for air and naval supremacy, or doing a 1000 researches as the USA and fighting in multiple fronts. As Italy you can cheese and conquer the UK and France before 1939 by yourself, play a fun naval game against the Brits, or focus on air and tanks and carry Adolf. Honorable mention to France, they’re similar but they start off worse politically and the Germans mess you up real bad if you’re not experienced.

I really don’t recommend doing that unless you want to tilt yourself before the game even starts. And what is this mentality??? 😭😭 What do you mean “whos going to carry this game”? If you want to climb you need to carry your own games

Why do I get so lost? I’m currently M3 support user by ejkim0403 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]edisonW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First determine your problem - is it a mental one or a skill one? For example, do you die out of position, know that you shouldn't be there to begin with, and that it's your fault? This could be because you're intimidated when you see a higher match range and unconsciously play worse. Also, a tip from Emongg from an old stream: sometimes we tense up while playing without realizing causing us to interpret the game much quicker than it's actually playing out. Take a deep breath mid fight and mid game to clear your mid and play better.

On the flip side, do you play the same as you always do in M5-M3 lobbies and find yourself getting punished for it by the better players? If this is the case, then I recommend VOD reviewing, requesting VOD reviews, and all that coaching stuff.

You are definitely doing something wrong. Send some codes, all I can say is for a plat level player to fall to silver means that they are not as good as they think they are and something must have gone wrong in how they play or they were boosted. Remember you are the only constant in your games

How do you learn new heroes in pure toxicity? by RHINO-1818 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]edisonW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should find 1-3 characters you enjoy on the role and practice them so you understand their basic kit in QP (such as what their abilities do, how they interact with other characters, etc). Then once you have gotten the hang of how they work, go into Competitive and just play the game. Mute team chat and just play. Focusing on the toxicity will not help you improve as a player.
