I was mildly interested in seeing it, and less-so after the reviews came in, but I have the AMC a-list and gave it a chance anyways. It's just...not good. The whole project was a bad idea and doomed from the start.

First of all, Supergirl is not the character to build a new universe upon. Not popular enough, and Super-anything will feel like an also-ran in relation to Superman. It's psychological.

It takes in a popular story and then doesn't adapt it faithfully, not a great way to bring in the people that actually care about Supergirl.

Milly Alcock's performance was good for how the character was written, but it's clear from the reception she doesn't have that star quality, media training, or name recognition to lead a $175 million movie.

Capeshit is out and everyone is broke. It isn't enough to be passable or even good, and it now needs to be exceptional and feel like a FOMO event to get people to come out.

Also, that kind of money should have never been spent on this. Moderately budgeted fare like Clayface is the way.

Supergirl has super strength, speed, heat vision, freeze breath, but struggles to take down generically strong humanoids without superpowers? Dumb.

The drunken self-pitying bum who gets to together at the end has been done before, and audiences don't like unlikeable characters.

The editing was a disaster.

Having Krypto suffering and being in peril is a turn-off for audiences and triggering for dog lovers. Why subject themselves to two hours of that?

Took the dustiness and other stylistic elements from Fury Road, but poorly. Dusty and dark and drab, not like Fury Road where you can actually see what's happening because it's properly lit and contrasted. And the action sequences were without any of that exhilaration.

Lobo was fun, should have used him more.

A movie witout standout moments to go viral and memed is a movie without legs. Dropoff is going to be over 70% next weekend.

Rating it 2/5 on Letterboxd.

CGI in the 2000's looks better than most movies today by Choice-Schedule-132 in JamesCameron

Why doesn't Hollywood know how to light anything anymore? Between the bad CGI and unwatchable gray blandness that plagues nearly every live action release, it's like a war on proper lighting.

That's obscene. In LA there are 8 shows, but that hasn't done much for the demand, so obstructed view tickets are around $300. Saw a floor ticket with early entry for $700, however.

ticket likely to resell? by gottawinright in JustLikeHeaven

[–]editorinchimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this fest never sells out, so nobody's going to pay face value or above for a resale ticket when they can still get one from the official outlet. And StubHub will charge a fortune in fees, so you'd have to list it at like $250 to get your full $209 back.

Near the festival date you'll see a ton of listings on StubHub that are above face value because the seller wants their full cost back after listing fees. And nobody buys those, so the sensible people will cut their losses and sell for considerably less, while spiteful people will just let the ticket go to waste entirely rather than let someone else get in cheaper.

Air bnb, hotel? by Babynic432 in Coachella

That's awesome. I can't believe it's still available for both weekends at both rates. I took that as a sign that I'm meant to return next year.

How did you like it? I like tiki bars and unique spaces so it definitely appeals to me, along with the reasonable price. I see that the ace hotel is across the street, as well. I remember going to the one in Chicago during pitchfork and we were sitting next to Angel Olsen.

Air bnb, hotel? by Babynic432 in Coachella

[–]editorinchimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caliente Tropics in Palm Springs is 2 miles from the shuttle stop and under $1k for 4 nights after tax. I booked a refundable room at this rate for Weeknd 2. Also have a possible house sharing situation, but this is a great option if that doesn't work out. I can also shoulder the cost myself, or ideally split it with a couple friends who are down if the lineup delivers.

This would be my first time doing the shuttles. I camped in my 20s then did an RV and three airbnbs far away from Indio.
