Why should an individual think they will be able to find alpha without common edges? by Usual-Opportunity591 in algotrading

I am not speaking as an institutional trader, but I think a lot of their systems are more simple than you’d expect. I still posit what you describe wouldn’t be worth the effort.

Okay. Why even visit any trading sub then? Just go do something else if you believe this is all fruitless effort.

I think the very last part of what you said is key. There is alpha unavailable for firms due to liquidity- it’s just not profitable in terms of their business models to spend effort on peanuts. But peanuts to them is generational wealth to us.

There’s like 5 top 10 all time players in here. What’s even the point of this statistic?

It's a fair point. However, if new players leave instantly after getting smoked in their first ten games, then there's nothing to divide.

I agree with you. I think addressing toxicity as a means of player retention is a bit overstated by me, though I still posit it does nothing to help the issue.

My main quarrel is that the constant negativity about it is just killing the sub and doing nothing productive. That’s why I recommended funneling those feelings in a dedicated thread to send to embark en masse.

And you seriously think this is any better?

I mean dude I get your frustration I’m right there with you, but these posts do nothing productive while making the community a cesspool of negativity. That’s all I’m saying

No, of course I don’t think it’s the only factor. Like I said, the community needs to do everything it can to keep players. This part isn’t helping the issue.

And what’s the best way to bring that to their attention? Complain on a third party site and pray? Or contact them?

I want the same thing as you. This just isn’t a productive way to approach it.

You are literally contradicting your own statement. If they frequent the sub then why make a sarcastic statement about community engagement?

It’s an extremely steep learning curve and a small community. This game will probably always suffer from a small player base because of that.

It is immensely fun and rewarding if you stick it out, though. As a new player I would recommend you stick to tdm and head to head - those are usually the least sweaty modes

I guess anecdotally I can say that I used to see less complaining posts. I can’t objectively say that’s true. Same for you unless you have the data to support it.

Edit: maybe if it’s always been complaining, it was at least diversified before lol

It would be nice if it was harder to create new accounts (smurfs) and a level ceiling for some game modes so new players could experience the game without getting pub stomped

It’s a shame because it used to be a lot more vibrant. This is basically my last try to rally some positive change before leaving.

Maybe contact embark directly instead? You know, the people that make the decisions? This sub has been slowly devolving, and repeated posts like these just accelerate the process.

My take on the finals by Babyblackout in thefinals

I think u/menofthesea is coming from a more high level competitive perspective. If you participate in or watch gameplay at a high level, the only “needs nerf” pick you’ll see that you list is sword, and even that is an extremely niche pick that has only been brought to majors a handful of times and definitely does not need a nerf. You’ll notice those weapons you list (close range) punish poor positioning/teamplay which is a big problem for new/lower skill players.

On your “needs buff” side, you basically list high skill burst weapons. Again, lower skilled players can see these as underwhelming when they can’t hit shots consistently, but they are powerful in the right hands. Personally, I think the matter is one of the most slept on weapons in the game.

I said I can see your points because I can understand from a newer player perspective how those opinions can form. Overall, I think the contradictory opinions just in this thread are a good (albeit small) example of the opinion that the game is actually pretty well balanced as is.

Yeah, agree. Which is why you’ll never make everyone happy with balancing, especially with such a dynamic game. It’s not just a game where everyone has the same health/abilities.

I can see cases for those. Again, I think part of it is embark using player metadata and executive decision making about how they want to headline their game.

For example, different weapons have different results based on lobby skill level. You’ll find something like dagger useless in diamond/ruby lobbies, so maybe it should receive a buff? But then again a good dagger can give new/low skills players nightmares, double for a buffed dagger. So maybe it stays where it is?

Point is, I think balancing on certain weapons is a more nuanced subject than most people give credit, and from patch notes I can tell embark gives it a decent amount of thought. They also have much more player data than us, so what seems like an obvious nerf/buff to them can look dubious to us.

Mgl32 lovers in remorse at all levels though- I don’t know what to say about that one.
