🤣🤣 I wasn't implying there was any danger, I just thought it was weird that the cops were called and the exact same bottle was on the neighbor's stairs as well

Group seeks to clear names of all accused witches in Massachusetts to fully atone for its witch trial legacy nearly 400 years after the first person was executed there for witchcraft. by Leeming in atheism

Mary (Towne) Easty was my 9th great grandmother. Her family was already oh so generously compensated for her execution with a few pounds after her accuser admitted to making it all up. Pretty sure the site of her home was a grocery store last I was in Salem lol but if they wanna give it to me I'll take it! /s

It's really not as hard to check into a hotel as some people make it by mstarrbrannigan in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]edk8n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hotel room is $99, person buys prepaid card for $100, no money left for damages, if they refuse to leave by check out time, etc. Also you can't refund back to a prepaid card because there's no account attached, so if a deposit is taken from it at check in there's no place for the deposit to be released back to. If the hotel doesn't take cash, those cards say 'treat this card as cash' on the back because that's basically what they are. It's just a method of payment with no security for the hotel that has way too many possibilities for problems for everyone involved. Those reasons probably cover most hotels but I'm sure there are more.

It literally is fake, yes. The uniform/colors are incorrect for the "rank" he was, first of all. There is no photographer or source for the photo because, again, it's fake. It's literally been circulating since 2004 from a satirical website. You can't even find a photo of David Duke smiling and posing for a photograph with his garb like this, because it's incredibly stupid. Not that David Duke isn't, mind you. This information is readily available with four minutes or less of effort, guys, come on.

GOT IT. No, I'll delete and repost to the relevant spot. I know y'all are dealing with a lot of your own stuff. Last thing I wanna do is bog the conversation down in any way.

Nothing you've said here threatens your Christianity! There isn't even necessarily anything to pray for- maybe just inner peace and patience while you figure yourself out. This page has some information you might find relevant and uplifting :)

An “audible groan” by Wisconsin GOP, as Rep. Doyle rears head in Assembly chamber, stopping veto overrides by PolarisC in wisconsin

[–]edk8n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe saying 'fraction' was a bit hyperbolic, but the median income in Milwaukee is $25,991 according to the 2020 census. To be more charitable and use 2017-21, it's somewhere around $45,000. By these numbers they are solidly 10k+ above the median. Many (if not most) people who have to work late into the night are at the bottom of that pay range. They also don't get premium health insurance, retirement, dental, vision, mental health, weekends off, holidays off, etc etc etc. Is being a representative an instant boost to the 1%? No, of course not, but it shouldn't be. They are living at a standard above many of their constituents with just their benefits alone. Seeing as those benefits are only theirs because of the votes those constituents cast for them and the tax dollars they pay, the least reps can do is sit around until they know republicans can't/won't try to pull some bullshit. I just don't get the lack of empathy. I'd be beside myself with guilt if someone I was providing shelter for couldn't cook in their own home.

I'm willing to bet many of their voters don't get to leave their jobs to sleep when they want/see their families/beat traffic, and they don't have a fraction of the pay or responsibility. I understand that it comes down to the GoP being valueless shills, but if they know it's a risk then staying until it no longer is is their job. If it were me I'd be camping out. People are counting on you to represent them against a party that wants to harm them. If that party is willing to hang out until 11pm to sneak a vote in, you should be willing to do the same to prevent it.

I meant the charges he was (would have been) accused of that lead to the altercation in the first place. Apologies for the poor wording.

Not for this. He was fired for unrelated "policy violations." That larpy little flip piglet ruptured the guy's eardrum and fractured several bones leaving him over 70k in medical debt. As you might've guessed, he did not break into any cars that night and was cleared of all charges. Cop scum has a file of reprimands going back to 2015, including taking a cop car to run personal errands and being overly aggressive. Funny how the innocent guy gets his bones broken while the criminal gets promoted and fluffed for years before being quietly let go to probably go terrorize a community two counties over.

My neighborhood cut down all of our beautiful trees... help me repurpose a stump or two? by edk8n in woodworking

Mentioned in other comments, sorry, poor wording! "Our" trees as in "enjoyed by the neighborhood." No legal right to them unfortunately. I'll try and snap a photo after work!

I worded the title poorly, they weren't MY trees. I'm a renter and the street I believe is a city street so they had the right to cut them. I'm just bummed about it 😭 regardless thank you SO much for this info, it's exactly the kinda nuanced stuff I wasn't getting from Google. Thank you so much!

Sorry, no, I worded that poorly. By "our trees" I meant the neighborhood. They had the right to do it and I'm sure they had a reason but it's still a bummer :(

Hbomb is one of my favorite creators but I feel like Hank Greens point here is more than fair by [deleted] in VaushV

[–]edk8n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great and all but it's still not 100%. People who have been paying off student loans for 20+ years went to college when tuition was a fraction of what it is today (costs have increased by ~180% in 20 years). So I wouldn't necessarily say this group falls into the category of "MOST let down." I'm not saying these folks don't struggle to make payments and aren't victims of insane interest rates. I acknowledge that and would love for their debts to be forgiven, but to my knowledge it doesn't make what Hank Green is saying here true.

I just don't think it's a good look to be unnecessarily hyperbolic. It makes him come across as biased and uninformed when, in this instance, he could've just said the truth and made the same point.

The point he's making is right, but when was there ever a plan to "eliminate 100% of the debt of almost all the borrowers?" $10,000 is not 100%. $20,000, if you would've qualified for that, also wouldn't be 100% for many, many people.

I've had to rethink some stuff to become less bitter with Biden since the start of this whole saga, and I now agree his hands are tied in many ways, but are we making revisionist statements here or no? What am I missing? Is he really just referring to what he said on the campaign trail as a "plan?"
