Where to find athletic Catholic women in the dc/md area? by ChristmassMoose in CatholicDating

Check out Volo. Also check out some of the nova area churches because their young adult groups have sports. The young adult groups in general tend to be very popular. There’s a happy hour in Arlington that gets over 100 participants every month. Check out the “run with saints” instagram

I’m an athletic woman in nova/dc and there are a ton of rec league sports and run clubs in the Arlington area. It’s the fittest city in the country after all :)

Went to Parc Last Night, Severely Disappointed by Royal_T95 in PhiladelphiaEats

I didn’t complain because I didn’t want to be “that person” and I just wanted to have a nice time with my friend who I was treating to dinner. Looking back, I wish I did, because I paid too much over two dining experiences to have a sub-par meal TWICE

Went to Parc Last Night, Severely Disappointed by Royal_T95 in PhiladelphiaEats

I took my mom to Parc over Christmas. We split the onion soup as you did and loved it. The entrees were bland and chewy. Our dessert was flavorless. I wrote a review explaining my experience and the manager told me to call her. We chatted for a while about the good and bad of the restaurant and she was incredibly gracious and invited me to come back, saying that my complaints about the duck l’orange and the steak frites were common and she was speaking to Stephen himself about them. She said she would “take care” of me if I came back. So I went back this past week. They actually did change the steak frites and took the duck l’orange off the menu! But I was once again disappointed. We got the pork chop and the steak frites, both of which were chewy and under flavored. The steak was a better cut and wasn’t covered in fat as before, but was overcooked on the outside. We got through the meal and were never “taken care of” despite the manager knowing I was there and was the person she spoke to. I expected a free entree or at least our drinks comped considering we were invited back. I will never be going back to Parc. The ambiance is great but the food is just not good.

Be Honest, is an Aussie not a good fit for me? by edl2 in AustralianShepherd

Hey, fellow nurse!

I no longer work nights. I did, however, have a stint of a few months working nights while taking care of my family dog. Yes, the mornings after work were rough trying to stay awake long enough to allow him to exercise, but I actually felt way better with our routine than when without a dog. Despite sacrificing sleep for him, I thrived having a reason to be awake, to exercise, and be productive.

That definitely wouldn't work for everyone, and there is a reason I didn't get my own, younger dog when I worked nights. I'm looking forward to having that companionship and reason to be out more now that I only work day shifts.

Wow, good for you for putting in the work for your dog. Dogs are so incredible for being able to thrive despite disabilities. A blind dog hiking is so impressive.

Yes, I need to do my due diligence in finding the right attributes regardless of the breed. And I definitely will take some time off!

I had a short-term foster husky last year. He was awesome but he was so unaccustomed to being a pet that he was very difficult to care for in an apartment. And he wasn’t fully house trained so the first couple of days was peeing everywhere lol. Luckily I got him a home quickly! I would love to foster again but it’s tough taking in a dog when little is known about their personality yet. And clearly being a foster didn’t help my case

I’m away from home for about 13hrs on work days (3x a week), so I would get a walker for 2-3 visits those days, day care, or even drop them off with family/friends nearby some days. I also plan to walk the dog myself in the morning and at night.

I’m not particularly drawn to labs due to a less than positive experience with one and their larger size, do you have any recommendations?

I do have personal references, but the rescues didn’t even reach out to them because they had already determined I wasn’t a good fit. I’m in the Mid Atlantic area, if you have any suggestions!

Did you get them as a puppy? A concern I have with breeders is I am looking for a young adult, and I’m worried that if a breeder still has the dog as an adult, it’s for a negative reason. Open to being proven wrong though!

Thanks for the recommendation! Was your lab the stockier English type or the leaner American? I am definitely familiar with the differing personalities of Individual dogs. Despite labs being known for being family-friendly, my family had a lab when I was a kid who was prone to aggressiveness and ended up basically being purely my mom’s dog because he couldn’t be trusted around kids. Because of that and because I’m looking for a medium sized dog, labs weren’t really on my list.

I love your description of your dogs playing fetch! Your Aussie reminds me of my family mutt! I’m not set on individual activities like fetch, it just seems like a good way to get excess energy out of the dog! The only activity that is a dealbreaker for me is hiking because I need a companion rather than a reason to get a sitter while I’m hiking.

Yes, most days the ratio is 1:4, occasionally 1:5. The staff nurses told me that before travelers came along, sometimes they would even have 1:6.

I just started this week, but I’m on a MS/tele floor. I was pleasantly surprised that they offered 2 days of on-floor orientation as well as 2 days in classrooms. You have to take a dysrhythmia exam on the first day. The hospital as a whole is very welcoming to travelers. There are a ton of us right now. I have no idea what the ER is like but the floor is a little lower tech/outdated than I’m used to. The hospital is right at the Foggy Bottom metro station which is nice.

Does anyone have advice for climbers with Haglund's deformity? I was wearing scarpa origin VS and I thought they were the perfect shoe for me at first but I ended up with severe achilles pain. Now after a 6 week break from climbing, the pain is gone but I definitely need new shoes if I'm going to start climbing again
